Angelique

I specifically requested bioidentical hormone replacement therapy and my Ob/Gyn prescribed Angelique. I wonder if it has a brand name if it truly is bioidentical.
In case anyone else is seeking the same information, the answer is no.
The natural, bio-identical hormones cannot be patented or trademarked, since they are natural substances.
It is similar to a vitamin, which cannot be patented or trademarked either, for the same reasons.
Something can only be patented/trademarked when it is, in some way, unique. Such as when vitamins undergo specially processing and have special stuff added to make them a proprietary formula.
The same is true of hormones, the synthetic ones that are created can be patented, but the natural ones cannot.
When it comes to the natural, bio-identical hormones no prescription is actually needed in the U.S. They are considered natural supplements, generally considered as safe and are available over the counter in most health/vitamin shops or via mail order from various websites.
The main difference is that, as I said, they are generally considered safe, while there are many possible risks and side effects to using the prescription synthetic hormones.
Before using anything, you should check with your doctor to make sure it is safe for you to do so and you may want them to do some hormone testing via saliva, so you know exactly which ones you need.
Otherwise, it's really a matter of trial and error.
And the main problem with such prescriptions from your doctor is if they just throw something such as this at you, without doing any testing of your hormone levels.
Most women who are experiencing symptoms of PMS, perimenopause and menopause are actually estrogen dominant, because they have stopped producing enough Progesterone, either due to being on synthetic hormonal contraceptives for a long period, getting too much estrogen from the environment or because they've start to have anovulatory cycles, where no egg is actually released.
Thus, they don't need more estrogen, but rather Progesterone to equal themselves back out.
Are there any questions or comments?
Is there anything I can help with?
If there's anything anyone would like to know about this subject, please post and I'll provide more information, if I can!
