Alprazolam 0 25 Mg
(Newest replies first)
Updated
I do not have anxiety or depression but have been prescribed alprazolam for insomnia. I usually cut the o.25 tablet in half each night before bed. Is this the right prescription for me or can I take something that will not be less habit forming.

@Tomas,
Thank you for your very considerate feedback. That’s a really good question regarding the use of methadone and kratom together. I honestly wouldn’t be able to speak from my own experience on this subject, as I’m very cautious when it comes to combining kratom with any other substances (aside from cannabis in moderation - which I had sensed and determined to be perfectly safe through some degree of experimentation and even seems to act synergistically in a way; like yin & yang).
On the topic of opioids, according to NIH, “The predominant alkaloid of kratom, mitragynine, binds to mu- and kappa-opioid receptors, but also has additional receptor affinities”.

NIH also notes that methadone has a high/potent affinity for the mu opioid receptor. However my theory is that because mitragynine binds to various other opioid receptors as well (even if methadone's affinity took over on the mu receptor) mitragynine should still have plenty of room to frolic around, LOL.
On a side note, I also wanted to share the following source from NIH on kratom (Mitragyna speciosa) exhibiting antipsychotic-like effects, which I think may be a core component of how it could help as a sleep aid:

I wish I had more information to share, but I’ll certainly post back if/when I come across additional information I can reference. Best wishes to you!

@Eddy,
Thank you kindly. I am very passionate about kratom because I feel that it’s one of the few “natural remedies” aside from cannabis that actually has profound and immediately noticeable results.
Oh and yes, I imagine that a kilo would last a VERY long time at a teaspoon or two a day! I’ve bought it by the pound before for $75 and am still working on it a few months later. Though the price per ounce seems to vary significantly depending on the vendor.
I also wanted to celebrate when I heard the recent news about the DEA reversing their stance on banning kratom… With all the prescribing restrictions / guidelines placed on doctors this is definitely a step in the right direction, as I think it will give pain patients an additional option to choose from for relief outside of opiates/opioids and cannabis.
Incredible story David! I see a Kilo of the Bali Red sells for $110, that must last a long time. Last I heard the FDA banned it, then unbanned it!
David,
You seem to be very well read on this subject.Very informative for sure. I have a close family member maintained for many years on methadone as an opioid replacement therapy.He suffers from chronic insomnia He's restricted from using benzodiazepines rightfully so.Ive heard others on methadone using this substance.Would you happen to know if kratom and methadone can be used concurrently without fear of percipated Withdrawl like symptoms from occurring ?He would be seeking relief from insomnia related to anxiety .If you have any insight or information I would be grateful. Many thanks, Tomas
@southport,
I've been taking kratom on a fairly regular basis for the better part of a year now and I find it to be a very (as in life changing) effective in my own personal experience with it for the treatment of insomnia as well as general anxiety. There are different strains of kratom that are more sedating than others, so I started off reading reviews and trying them all so I could gather a well rounded perspective on what might work best. Bali (red) is the name of the strain that I find most helpful for sleeping, but my wife finds Maeng Da (green) to be most helpful for her, so it may take a small margin of trial and error. I typically take 1 level teaspoon to 1.5 teaspoons before bed and the way kratom has worked for me is that it quiets that voice in my head which all too often keeps a person up constantly thinking. It also provides a warm sensation similar to butterflies or feeling "cozy" - a unique property that I sense aids in the process of falling asleep. Thirdly, kratom also provides me with a considerable level of pain relief - this helps tremendously if I have a stiff neck at night and need the tension relieved.
Now as far as addiction is concerned, I personally haven't had any issues with stopping it for any length of time (long or short). For one, the powder tastes akin to a strong green drink which isn't particularly appetizing. So in my humble opinion the taste alone is a strong enough deterrent against addiction or abuse. However there are ways to prepare it to make it much more palatable (such as making it like tea and adding some creamy raw honey to mask the worst of it - or putting it in several 00 capsules). In my experience, there are no concerns of withdrawal symptoms either. Propaganda might say otherwise, but my understanding is that you'd have to be taking an ungodly amount to encounter anything more than a runny nose.
Traditionally, kratom (being in the coffee family) has been used for centuries as means to work longer hours without feeling the mental & physical ramifications of their hard manual labor. It has come to my knowledge however through personal experience as well as research, that higher doses of kratom are sedative and lower dose are stimulating...I'm not exactly sure why this is, but I do find it very interesting.
Hope this helps provide another alternative to consider researching or possibly giving a try. Many people do swear by it's efficacy, including myself now.
Michelle,
Absolutely, thank you for being so honest. So many struggle with anxiety and insomnia, unable to find adequate relief they resort to use of these potent benzodiazepines. Sadly, tolerance and dependence develop rapidly even at therapeutic doses. There are successful established techniques that may prove beneficial. It is essential to find a competent provider and establish a consistent treatment plan to assist in the managing of this complicated condition. It took years and many failed attempts until I finally found the right doctor to assist me in this lifelong battle. It's not easy but it beats the alternative. Which in my case led to self medicating with alcohol and anything else that was only a brief respite for this disorder. In times of uncertainty like today's transition of political power my levels are exceedingly high BUT it's only temporary and will subside. My truest wish is everyone to find inner peace with effective treatment it IS POSSIBLE. GOD BLESS YOU ALL.
I take that med and i take 1 mg three times and day and i have been trying to get off from it because it's very additive
