Adderall Dexedrine Xr Ir Er Vyvanse Sweating Hyperhidrosis

Hi:

I've been prescribed Adderall 20mg IR (generic amphetamine salts, 2x daily) and I found I was just dripping sweat in any type of heat or even at 40 deg after some exertion. My doctor switched me to dextroamphetamine (again, generic, 10 mg, 2x daily), and there is no improvement.

The new drug is not as effective as the Adderall. My doctor is not that familiar with this class of drugs, but my pharmacist specialized in mental health drugs and suggested that an ER or XR version might work better. I've also read that some people do better on certain types of generics or the name brands.

Has anyone found that:

1) an extended release version has physical side effects (i.e., sweating)?

2) a name brand, rather than generic, has been more effective at preventing side effects?

3) a different medication, like Vyvanse, does not cause sweating? Note that I want to stay in the same class of medications because I am about 50 lbs overweight (lost 60 on Adderall!), so Ritalin and other drugs that don't suppress appetite won't work. Btw, if anyone is concerned about me using the drug for this purpose in addition to my actual ADD, be assured that my doctor is aware of this, and thinks it is a good thing (for my social anxiety, as well as overall health), and I'm not abusing it at all.

Thanks for your help!

Hello, Enzo! How are you?

This symptom has been known to occur with stimulants, some people even experience it from caffeine in coffee or energy drinks.

Side effects can still occur with the time releases formulations, but since you get less of the medication released at once, it can help minimize them or eliminate some altogether.

And yes, there is also a chance that a different medication in the same class may not cause you to experience it.

The FDA lists other typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, nervousness, anxiety and insomnia.

Has anyone else experienced this while taking this medication?
