Adderall 20mg Which Generic Brand Is Better
(Newest replies first)
Updated
So I have been taking 20 mg instant release Adderall for years and I cannot seem to find one that is consistently working for me. The pink ones I was recently taking seem to work great but now have almost completely quit working for me. Any suggestions as to which generic is the best?

Re: Hamster (# 10)
Thanks for mentioning the quality control. I always wondered why they worked only sometimes.
Re: Mike (# 9)
Just filled my monthly script of 30 mg Adderall XR and 30mg Teva (generic)..30 each.
The 30 mg Adderall XR (Brand by Shire) only cost me $18 for 30 pills (usually $100). They are always consistent with little side effects. I have been going back and forth with Aurobindo and Teva in the generic IR and this last batch of Teva seem to have nothing in them! Really crazy. Last month they we're fine. The Aurobindo are also very inconsistent. Some month, pretty good - other months (like this month's Teva) nada! Bottom line is the generic have crap quality control and some months they are low on the active ingredient (regulated by the gov't) and they just make 'em and give a rat's ass. Sad. If you can handle the anxiety of Vyvanse, its a good choice but gives no mood enhancement (for me). Good luck!
Currently Mylan and Sun Pharma rank at the top.
Sandoz is no longer the King unfortunately, and seems to be a completely ineffective pill.
Ok so pink fo not work for many. Also, ur tolerance is another issue. Ur building one. So. May I ask y u use it?. Add ect but u say not as effective like?. Most need the medication to start to function when walking on a regular basis. If that's u I'd try barr brand ther orange. They're oval n flat. Maybe take half morn n half mid day. Need more info on effective. You may need another dose or try extended release.

What did you end up doing? I have Chronic Fatigue and the current generic brands of adderall are not helping! The core pharma were great but they stopped making those and now I can not get the Sandoz either! Thanks.
What are the pharmacy names and generic brands they carry for Adderall IR?
What type of food, supplements should you stay away from when taking adderall IR? I've heard citrus is not good. For a example.
Hi I had the same issue. The dosage was 20mg and it just was not working because I built up a tolerance to it. So I asked my doctor to put me on 30 MG twice a day and it improved and that's it! Good luck lisa
Hi. I take Sandoz 3 x 20mg a day. In my opinion, they are better than Teva (the orange flat ones)and the pink ones. But just read that comment here about them changing the pink ones, so I am not sure now.
But I heard from many people that Sandoz is the best. I am dealing with a chronic fatigue; hence, I need them to work as long as it's possible:(
Good luck!!
Hey Tracy, I also have been taking 20mg Adderall IR twice daily for over 3 years. Before that, it was several years of 70mg Vyvanse. I started out with the Sandoz/Eon peach 401's as my first script and thought they were fine. Good focus and relatively light speedy feeling. Got one script filled with pink cor 135's about 2 years back and thought they were awful, then back to Sandoz. Went to Barr/Teva oval 973's last March due to insurance change and was very pleasantly surprised to find how well they worked for me, no speed feeling and clean focus with almost no sharp let down as a dose wore off. So far, so good, until this month and Walgreen's switched me back to Car 135's, which I did not check at the counter and was thus stuck with. Having read other posts on another thread which felt the Core pinks had recently gotten better, I decided to give them a try and have been again pleasantly surprised. Remembering them as "speedy" I started of taking a half a pill, then another 1/2 about 3 hours later. Very different from the last experience, as the focus side of things seemed superior to the Teva oval. I am now taking 1/2 in the am, 1/2 around noon and 1/2 around 4pm or so. Have not felt the need to take that last half yet. While I know this long response is probably not what you were looking for, I do believe that there is some variability in the strengths of the generics which are available to us. That would include different batches from the same manufacturer.
Call me crazy but my suggestion is to ask your Doc if he can somehow allow you to sample the Barr and Sandoz/Eon product. Mine was happy to work with me.
In any event, good luck in your search for consistency.
Unfortunately, Adderall is not a good medication as its effectiveness is affected by several things including the food we eat, the timing of food, stomach environment, our psychosocial state etc. Consider talking to your doctor about trying a different stimulant such as Vyvanse which may be a better option.
