Zolpidem With Nortriptyline
UpdatedI would like to take nortriptyline (10mg) with zolpidem (10mg) at night. Are these two medications ok to take together? I'm having some lower back pain.

Has your doctor advised you to take them both?
Both the Nortriptyline and the Zolpidem can cause depression of the central nervous system, so when they are used together, the dosage has to be carefully considered by your doctor and they should be monitoring you on a regular basis.

My Dr. did prescribe these two medication, but not to be taken together,, she was trying to find a solution to my sleeplessness besides ambien,,nortriptyline did not help with sleep as I had hoped,,,thought it might help with some pain,,I will not take the notriptyline, does not sound like a safe combo.
I would say to depends on the dosing. In general, they're both rather weak drugs, but unless the doc os exceeding the Average Daily dose for either, I doubt there would be a problematic interaction.
Actually, I prescribed both for my own mentor and shrink. The Nortrptyline worked and he periodically uses Ambien, but he taught me not to prescribe for myself. With CSs, it's actually illegal. I learned that his daughter, ince she stopped nurse, who supported from the same "migraine variant syndrome," started on Noprtrip 10mg qHS and her [pain is now a think of the past. In case you're wonderful this is where having lots of nice helps. My mentor founded the Dept. of Psych and Neurology in TWO major areas hospitals that have since merged corporately, but still are separately buildings. I wrote Research Parameters, which were "cleaned up" and got results almost as quickly as The Flash would. This, after we'd looked it up in scholarly detail online to physicians'-only sites" research applications", etc.(well, not just MDs, but "healthcare professionals who can prove it with license dates, numbers, years of graduation)for a few days. WE exchanged scripts. I wrote one for him and one for his daughter and he wrote one for me. This did not work for me; raised it from 5mg to 10mg qHS for a week and then DC'd. It worked for him at 10mg/day and, when she had finishing nursing, for his daughter at the same dose. They both had to start at 5mg qHS (although there's no good reason to start so low but our rational is if 5mg works, why take 10mg?) only to find that 10mg qHS worked really well. Although theres no legal restriction on prescribing "Rx Only" drugs for oneself, we did what e did because He advised me to do it years before. AS far as IO can reach; both took Ambien 10-20mg occasionally for sleep; I knew there was no danger there.
I take 25mg at bed time for GI issues and migraines. Has worked wonderfully, but weight gain is an issue. That being said, I'll take weight gain over feeling crappy any day!
I'm a 5ft 125lb woman and I take 75mg of nortriptyline and 5mg of ambien nightly. The nortriptyline was prescribed to suppress extremely violent nightmares I had had nightly since maybe 4 years old. The ambien because I'm also prescribed adderall and originally my doctor tried to take me off the nortriptyline (using ambien) but that brought back the nightmares even worse (given I was used to not having them all the time anymore). At those dosages I occasionally have mild hallucinations (paintings become 3D and things may appear to vibrate/move that aren't really moving). Usually I go right to bed and thus fall asleep without experiencing any. But that's been my nightly routine for years (definitely addicted to the ambien, occasionally cutting back either/both dosages or not taking anything if I have been drinking) and I'm still alive and otherwise perfectly healthy. Probably not the safest in general but hasn't killed me yet.
I've been on Nortriptyline 25mg for 2 nights now for vulva pain. It has worked for my pain but keeps me awake all night long. I take it at 6:30 pm as I was instructed. I also have problems sleeping and take ambein 5mg but was told not to with this medication. Took one last night so I could sleep.
