Zolpidem Generic (Page 7)

ALL CVS pharmacies just changed the zolpidem from MYLAN manufacturer (out of PA) to TORRENT in India. Because generics can certain behave differently, I am nervous about taking the (10 mg) oblong peach Torrent brand one after reading some things online. I also don't like the idea of CVS using from out of the country manufacturer which HAS to be due to a better price because MYLAN brand is still very readily available. Any comments?

Torrent works well for me. Teva did not work fast enough.

Torrent zolpidem is very good. As good or better than any I have taken. The Qualitest is also very good.

Torrent version is almost as good as the Qualitest generic.

My local CVS has lots of 10mg Qualitest and since my dosage is 5 to 10 mg my doctor prescribes the 10mg and I split them.

Teva (round) generic did not work well for me. It gave me a hangover and took much longer to put me to sleep.

Please tell me the name and location of your pharmacy. Every pharmacy that I have called tells me that Qualitest does not make 10mg Zolpidem anymore. This is the only generic that has worked for me.

It depends on your insurance plan AND the amount that you arei willing to pay. For example, I just investigated this and it appears that Sanofi Ambien 10 mg is not on my companies formulary, So, I if appeal this, at the very best it will be placed on the formulary as a tier 4, whereas the generic version is a tier 2, This means that I would have to pay about $200 for a 30 day supply of brand drug vs. about $3 for the generic. I have found a temporary solution is taking 15 mg of the Torrent generic (you can break them in half, whereas the Teva version will not break).
This will present some other problems, as I am not sure if I can get more than 30 pills per month.
It is indeed too bad that the Qualtest version is not longer manufacturered, as that was truly "the real thing" even though it was branded as a generic. I suspect that Sanofi used to manufacture it for them, but perhaps their agreement fell apart.

If I had a nickel for every time someone squaks about a generic, I swear I'd be a very rich man. I have taken generics for years and never noticed a difference.

I was told that the lavender pill is Mylin. It might as well be caffeine pill. I went for two months on that pill without sleep. Then Kaiser gave me the peach colored round pill and I slept like a baby. Now- I just got the lavender pill again- and I was up all night again- that pill is USELESS.

I agree with you on Mylan generic.
Not all generics work period.
I recently tried a "blind" comparison over 4 days. I have a supply of Torrent 10mg and Qualtest 10mg. Pills are identical in shape but peach vs. White. Ended up sleeping much better (did not get up during the night) when I took Qual test version ) Unfortunately no longer manufactured by them.

Years ago I took the Dr Reddy generic, and it was great. Then I moved out of state (from NY to NM) and couuldn't get it anymore, so I got the Mylan which has been great. But this month my Rite-Aid couldn't get the Mylan, and I had to get Torrent, which is awful. On the rare nights it puts me to sleep, I'm wide awake 4 hours later. It doesn't matter if I take 5 or 10, same problem. I just called my pharmacy and they checked...Mylan MIGHT be available again the end of May. In the mean time, I'm rationing the Mylan's I have left. I'll take them during the week and save the useless Torrent for weekends, when I don't have to get up early and drive to work.

I've been on ambien for 8-9 years. Anyone who says generics are all the same are fos. I've taken mylan,torrent,teva,sandoz,sanofi and several other brands,the best I ever had was apo. Apotek. Mylan is ok,teva is ok if its all they have,but the rest are garbage. My dr writes mylan only and sams orders it for me.

Have you found a replacement? Qualitest was the best. I've had them all. Insurance denied brand Ambien. Using Teva. Not working. Desperate. No one cares.

Mylan did not work for me. I really had some difficulty getting to sleep.the Teva version did not work at all.
On the other hand, Torrent gets me to sleep eventually BUT I am not that sharp when I awake.
if someone else finds another generic manufacturer other than Mylan, Torrent or Teva, please post.
My insurance will not approve brand Ambien (Sanofi)

I posted last November regarding Zolpidem 10mg prescriptions filled at a "Mom and Pop" pharmacy that was the only pharmacy available at the time. They tasted like gasoline, and did not work. My physician I am sure was suspicious of me, not the odd medication, after 8 years of successful, unchanged [necessary - Cancer Metastatic] Zolpidem use. [I had been visiting friends in the middle of nowhere for 6 months thru November 2015].

Upon returning to Nevada, my primary goal was to find a generic [zolpidem] that was oblong that enabled breaking the pill in two, allowing a second half to be taken if I woke up. No such pill was available at Walgreens, CVS, etc., etc. HAPPILY, I located what has been a very professional, high quality pharmacy, Sav-On, [in Nevada] that provides oblong ZOLPIDEM TARTRATE NORTHSTAR RX LL 16714-0622-01. This product is as close to Ambien as any I have ever received. The Name and number are from the prescription bottle. It makes all the difference in the world. I don't recall the problem medication from November 2015, its in this blog somewhere.

I just don't like the sound of it. I've taken generic everything for a long time, various generics of the same drug, i.e. Valium, Xanax, anti-depressants, etc. Mylan(r) is generally the generic I get but depending on what drug store. I haven't used CVS in a few years, but they had some generics that were the same shape as the brand. Just a personal thing, I prefer the original shape if they're not going to pay for the brand name. (I get everything free now.)

Curious. How long has it been and are they working?

Sometimes the brand manufacturer actually either sells a "generic" version to a supplier or another pharmaceutical company. This is a marketing decision and when the FDA gives approval for a generic version of that med. You are correct in that often having the same shape and color of the brand indicates that it may actually be the same. I truly suspect that Qualitest version was made by Sanofi for them and possibly the agreement expired.
