Zolpidem Generic (Page 3)

ALL CVS pharmacies just changed the zolpidem from MYLAN manufacturer (out of PA) to TORRENT in India. Because generics can certain behave differently, I am nervous about taking the (10 mg) oblong peach Torrent brand one after reading some things online. I also don't like the idea of CVS using from out of the country manufacturer which HAS to be due to a better price because MYLAN brand is still very readily available. Any comments?
Re: Wondering (# 284)
I find that each person thT posted on this board had different opinions about the generics. I have tried them all and find that Torrent 10 mg works best for me. It is still not as effective as Qualitest the least effective for me was Teva.
Just a shame that the brand is not covered by my insurance and the price is 240 for a 1 month supply vs. 5 bucks for Torrent. And yes I went through the Dr that wrote letters etc but to no avail.
Re: Dave (# 280)
So, what generic manufacturers are best? I know our Qualitest is gone forever??any suggestions of best and worst?? Thank you.
Re: Donna (# 273)
Oh, hell no! Trazadone makes me so messed up the next morning, I can barely do my job! If you have no job to get to the next morning, this drug is for you!
Re: Jbeach413 (# 266)
Teva DOES NOT WORK AT ALL for me, neither does Mylan. I'm so disgusted that HMOs and Pharmas are jerking us around this way.
Re: Lily (# 276)
Sandoz 5mg does work to a small extent for me. My doc will not prescribe 10mg, but will give me 7.5mg. It doesn't always get the job done, but it's better then any other pharma brand.
Re: Gene (# 6)
Qualtest sold their ingredient list to Torrent; it's no longer available & if you were lucky enough to have found it in the last year it's bc the pharmacy had excess stock. While the entire world may claim it's the same, it certainly isn't. Any chemist knows that base materials, different activating agents, (not even mentioning the FDA's rule that the generic is allowed to have a 3%-7% active ingredient variance and a blood serum level range from 80%-120%). It's a nightmare & I suggest you find another solution or get the name brand. I was treated like an addict until i had an enlightening conversation w/ MIT chem engineer who worked for a large pharmaceutical company & confirmed all the research i did on my own. Qualitest was literally heaven-sent & since not being able to find it the quality of sleep i.e. life had suffered. Don't let pharmacists or *****s who believe in the benevolence of the FDA & generic brand names make you feel like a weirdo. I'm a highly educated & disciplined individual w/ my medication intake & there is a world of difference in the intentional verbiage use when the FDA or pharmacist says "equivalent" and "exact same". That is so painfully misleading and used to shut up concerned patients that i could write a novel. Best of luck!
Re: Charles of PA (# 278)
I know it's gone, for good.
Re: Lily (# 277)
In mojo Qualtest will not market this drug anymore as their deal fell apart. JMHO. It was the actual Sanofi without the label. Again, it is MHO.
Re: Charles of PA (# 262)
I had always wondered if the Qualitest was the real thing with the same formula. In fact it worked just a bit better than straight-up Ambien in that I didn't get the little dizzy feeling I'd often get with actual Ambien. As soon as I found out they'd stopped making Qualitest--and I had one vial left--I started checking out all the other generics one after another, what a waste of time, doctor's visits, fees and co-pays, and such stress too as I have intractable insomnia and have had it for decades. I've gotten enough success to manage with a combination of part Sandoz (works 4 to 4.5 hours) and a tiny part of Northstar (works 1 to 1.5 hours only, no more), which together for some reason give me 6 hours, with a brief waking about 4 hours in. Meanwhile, I'm holding on to that last vial of Qualitest in case things get worse, and it's my most valuable possession.
Re: Linda (# 274)
The Sandoz 10mg also works for me but for only 4 to 4.5 hours and then I wake up. However, I am generally still relaxed and usually able to go back to sleep for awhile. But I found by accident when I decided I needed to stretch these Sandoz pills, and had a whole bottle of Northstar zolpidem that would only work for 1 to 1.5 hours and then no sleep possible afterwards, that if I combined half a Sandoz with 1/4 of a Northstar, I'll sleep for up to 6 hours straight. Don't ask me why this works this way, I don't know, but it does.
Re: Gavin (# 270)
If there r no markings it's an OTC drug. More pharmacies, due to lax regulations are buying the cheapest pills they can get, (some bootleg, not real) and selling at higher prices. I have complained to CVS but they just shrug and tell me I am not taking it correctly. BS!
Re: Gene (# 6)
You're right about the Mylan formula of ambian. So ineffective I'm horribly sleep deprived after two weeks on it.
However, Sandoz works well for me!
I prescribe and my patients report back that the Northstar and Auro Bindo brands work well. Te a and torrent are worthless and one that used to work Qualitest pulled out of the market. There is a drug called mirtazapine that the smaller amount you take the sleepier it makes you feel and gives you less of a hangover than trazodone. Trazodone works for 10 hours and is thus beat taken a few hours before bedtime. Have found some luck with powdered magnesium that crosses the blood brain barrier, one brand is called relax max
I have never heard of Zolbiene. I would not start mixing drugs and although you mention that you had "acquired" them, I hope they were from a legit Dr and pharmacy. If you believe that these drugs are not genuine, I would go back to the pharmacy and ask them to show you the box that they came in.
I have taken zolpedin teva brand for sleep for years. Recently my drug company changed to another manufacture. The pills are pink. I have not had a good nights sleep since the change in manufactures. I think the drug companies have taken over the role of the physician. I also feel agitated during the day.
I suffer from insomnia, which has been medically diagnosed. My doctor prescribes Zolpidem (or sometimes Zopiclone) for me, but is reluctant that I take more than one of either tablet per night, though he does permit me to take two (of course, then I run-out).
So, I have acquired what is supposed to be Zolpidem Tartrate, called Zolbene-10, but they are clearly Indian, made by a company called 'Digital Vision', supervised by 'Neuro Vision'.
They are in strips of 10, longish and slightly off-white color, with a score in the middle, but no numbers or letters on them.
Has anyone ever heard of either 'Zolbene-10' or either of these companies?
I suspect they are fake but am reluctant to approach the authorities because of the legal implications for me.
Can anyone help or advise?
I don't remember due to the pharmacies, Walgreens and CVS, change brands almost every month. Ambien, not generic copies, was the best.
I tried CVS zolpidem, teva, round white pill. It doesn't work at all. I have taken zolpidem on and off for yrs so i am well aware of the effects. I stopped taking the new unknown branded zolpidem "placebo" effect drug and started trazodone. These pharmacies are shameful. Selling unknown generics for the love of money!
Just got a Teva 10mg zolpidem renewal. HORRIBLE I have to take 1 1/2 to 2 pills to work. Of course I'll come up short this month. FRACK
