Zocor 40 Mg Dosage And Side Effects (Top voted first)
UpdatedMy doctor prescribed Zocar-40 mg, and according to the directions it must be taken at night before bed-time. Does anyone know why it must be taken before bed-time? Also what are the known side effects of this medicine???

This is a cholesterol med. It is to be taken at night to help bring your cholesterol down, this is when you are relaxed the most. side effects liver, leg cramps, make you tired.
Cholesterol is made at night. That is why your physician wants you to take it at night. Be careful with this medication. I had chronic pain from diabetic neuropathy and began taking it. Took for about six months and noted almost intolerable pain, well beyond what I experienced with neuropathy. I got to the point I could barely walk. I kept complaining about the pain,,,,,,,,my blood sugars were under control and my doc said I should no longer be having pain. Little did I know that the major complication from Zocor is severe large muscle pain which I learned doing my own research looking for answers to the pain.....this can eventually lead to kidney failure. Just watch for the side-effects.
I have been on this drug now for almost 1 year and i was never told to take it at night.. Does it realy matter when u take it?
I've had very serious side effects from taking Zocor. I've logged everything and plan on seeing my dr this week. I'd been on 20 mg, for a yr, but dr titrated me up to 80mg nightly about a week ago. . That seemed like a high dose to me, so since it was scored, I cut it in half, and took 40 mg. I'm very sensitive to most new meds, so I tend to be super cautious. My plan was to titrate up to the 80mg dose over that first week. But, the next morning I could barely walk. I'm fibro pt, but this new pain was unlike any pain I'd EVER had! My legs felt like cement. I felt disoriented, had serious migrainal type headache, which have been ongoing since day one. Nausea was unbearable, blurry vision, short term memory loss, which still exists, to list only a few of the side effects. After the first dose, I refused to take this med at all. But, the symptoms have not gone away. I pride myself on being educated about meds and anything medical, since my work background is in the medical field. But I worry I've had permanent damage from this med. Has anyone else had these kinds of problems after taking high doses of Zocor? I;ve since done lengthy research on this med and statin drugs, and find one SHOULD be very cautious and careful. Don't be afraid to ask questions of your medical provider...EVER! Any helps you might offer would be greatly appreciated.
