Yutopar Aka Ritodrine (Page 7) (Top voted first)
UpdatedThis drug was used for women going into pre-mature labor. It was used to stop the contractions. Unfortunately it had major side effects on the babies. This was an experimental drug used from 1980 -1990 and was then discontinued. I was given this drug and my daughter was born 6 weeks early, had her by c-section. I begin to notice around 12 yrs old that problems were arising in her mental health, still not realizing that this drug played an important factor. I have found many women that this to has happened to, and I'm still looking for more families that this has effected. It is devastating and a nightmare for my daughter who is now 30 yrs. old. If you have any information I would really like to visit with you about your child. Thank you for reading this, we need to band together for our kids.

I have ct scans, MRI's and MRI's with contrast, diagnosed from dr fried in hackensack nj, a hospital/renound medical center. A spot was found, he was the 1st of 5 dr. I had seen in 5th grade who knew what it was. Cholestorol granuloma. My mother took ritodrine in 1991.
Re: Reen (# 140)
If you do anything, please.let me know. 2hat happened to us and our babies is deplorable and someone should bear some accountability other than the victims. We did this to SAVE our kids... not destroy their lives.
I just today started exploring this topic and making possible connections. I would love to hear more and read more about it.
This is actually a drug that I am not very familiar with, though I am very sorry to hear of the issues it has caused your daughter.
Are they solely mental health, or are there other medical issues that it's suspected of causing, as well?

The article in that link doesn't even provide a lot of information.
Hi Pat! I continue to try and track you down somehow! Did you ever get a page up? Hope this note finds you well.
I am in.. I have a 21 year old daughter with sleeping disorders and psoriatic arthritis. She is constantly in pain. I took the oral form of Yutopar in 1993 for premature labor. She was still premature by 2 months.
My twins have many of the same issues. I have also been diagnosed with essential tremors. Correlation? I am asking for my contact info to be shared with you.
I took Yutopar from 28 weeks to 33 weeks of gestation. I was at the emergency room every other weekend during that time because I would go into premature labor. At 33 weeks, I ended up in the hospital and was put on a Turbutaline drip (also used for premature labor). I remember my heart feeling like it was going to pop out of my chest.
My daughter is 28 and has a lot of the same issues that everyone is talking about. Her anxiety started when she was about 14.
I just read an article posted in the NY Times that said these drugs didn't even work.
Have you found a lawyer to take the case?
My daughter just had another relapse this past weekend, opiates. Someone should help us, help our children!!
Most parents on this thread report having taken the drug for many weeks or months of their pregnancies. I am surprised that your son has been so affected when you took the drug for just one week. However, I suppose it is possible that the drug could be the cause. It makes sense to me that babies could be more or less vulnerable to the drug in utero, depending on the stage of development when exposed.
I'm am 33 and today I was diagnosed with bicuspid aortic valve disorder. My mom was also diagnosed with a heart anurisum. None is hereditary. She also took this drug to prevent premature birth and I was unborn 12 weeks early. Trying to find an answer. Anyone else experience heart or circulatory problems
There is a place you can visit that will give you more information. I typed yutoparakaritodrine in the search engine please go there and maybe this will help!
Hi, I would love to speak to someone about this. This drug is still widely used in hospitals throughout China. I has on the highest legal IV dose 24 hrs/day for several weeks. What are the common issues for mother and child later down the road?
My son has similar delusions. He has episodes that are frightening and asks why won't you believe/help me. He suffers many side effects from medications as well, that's why we keep trying others. Also, none have helped with the psychosis. We've been told that will never go away completely, but meds should help him to deal with them - NOPE! He also drinks, whatever he can get, not just beer. Says it's the only thing that helps, but it's just bringing on new problems to deal with. Alcohol and the meds he is on are not a good mix.
Curious, I hope you don't mind me asking, have you discussed the Yutopar with him? And does he have insight (aware that this is an illness) at any time? Because of my sons delusions, I haven't mentioned it. That would be like adding fuel to the fire. The doctor thinks the psychosis is a combination of head injuries and drug induced. The drug use started when the emotional and mental issues started, it was his coping mechanism. At about the same age as everyone else's started whos mothers were given Yutopar for preterm labor.
Same thing happened to me. Faith in God is the answer. You were created in the image of God. He spoke and it was, you speak and what you say happens. Start speaking God's Word of healing over your daughter and she will be healed. "I am the Lord that healeth thee", "Jesus bore her sickness and her diseases and by His stripes she is healed". Mark 11:23. God is faithful. The power to perform God's Word is contained in his Word (Luke 1:37) Greek NT. God will not fail you.
I'm another 1983. Daughter has extreme social anxiety and depression she's now 32
Yutopar - my son. Now 31. I don't know how private this message is, but I want this to go further.

Re: Amanda H (# 106)
I had twin girls in 88. Both have struggled with anxiety and depression like you. One has a child. I had never heard the sterility side effect before your post. Pat Adkins, the woman who began this thread, also has a healthy grandchild.
Re: Amanda H (# 106)
I had not heard that this is a concern along with so many other symptoms. Do you know how long your mother took Yutopar/Ritodrine? I had a hard time with pregnancies, two miscarriages before my two children. Premature labor with both of them. I took Yutopar longer with my oldest, which suffers the most. With my youngest I developed heart problems (along with him) while in the hospital for preterm labor. At that point I was taken off of Yutopar and started Brethine for duration of pregnancy. Brethine also caused problems for my youngest, mostly digestive, but also depression and anxieties.
