Xarelto - Bowel Changes
UpdatedI've been taking Xarelto and noticed when I switched to 20 mg once a day my bowels changed. Anyone had any bowel changes?

I'm 41 and on no other medication and just completed a 3 month cycle of anticoagulants for provoked PEs after a long plane flight. Xarelto 15mg twice daily for first month, followed by Xarelto 20mg once daily for 1.5 months followed by Eliquis 5mg twice daily for two weeks. I should have switched from the Xarelto much earlier as I had horrible side effects including severe episodes of weakness (which sent me to ER three times), dizziness, tingling in hands and feet, anxiety, and GI issues m. It was definitely a bit of a poison to my system. One of the side effects of the 20mg was that it tore up my GI tract which included altered bowels. I've never had GI problems before and fortunately the GI issues improved 90% within three days of switching to Eliquis. All other severe side effects including weakness, dizziness, tingling in hands and feet, and anxiety disappeared too. I've been off anticoags two weeks now and I'm still dealing with some minor GI issues including altered vowels and am convinced the Xarelto is still to blame.
Why specifically do you guys mean by 'altered bowels'? There are so many variables to that.
The FDA lists Xarelto as being know to cause bowel and bladder dysfunction, as side effects, as well as diarrhea, bloody stool.
I was pretty good on the 15 mg twice per day. The 20 mg resulted in loose bowel and lower output, some mucus here and there, not much. It cleared up for a day. Came back. I was told Immodium was OK and that Xarelto has lactose in it and I have been over the years sensitive to dairy. I decided to take Lactaid before I take the Xarelto, Stress also does not help. Bowels seem over active since the 20 mg. Acidic.
My GI problems started with a gurgling stomach, then churning and nausea with stomach pain and a burning/gnawing between meals. Then my bowels started to alternate between diarrhea and constipation with spotty blood in stool. Also they are small ribbon-like. I've had GI tests done including full abdomen CT scan with no abnormalities, so doctors are confident all GI problems are related to irritation from the Xarelto.
I see your mess. is an old one so I don't know if you will get this, I too have suffered stomach and bowel issues on BP med and Xarelto. Don't know what is going on, recently had craps and some loose bowel movements. Stomach was very bloated.
What really bothers me is every time this happens I get an attack of A-fib. I keep telling the doctor if we can only control my stomach issues and all this gas I'm getting I think the A-fib would be under control too.
