Xanax Withdrawal Please Help (Top voted first)
UpdatedI have been taking Xanax off and on for about 7 months and lately I have only been taking .25 mg like twice a week. I want to stop taking Xanax all together but everytime I wait like 3 to 4 days I start feeling extreme anxiety and I feel like I need to take some Xanax. And I only take .25mg. Is this anxiety because I am going through withdraws? How can I stop taking Xanax all together and not experience anyone withdrawal symptoms? Anyone have any advice on what I should do? I want to stop Xanax but I also don't want anymore anxiety. Please help me with some advice

If you are being honest you must know that you are NOT going through withdrawals. Will that mean your anxiety will go away or come back, possibly even stronger than before, well that is possible. Some people need medication and I applaud you for your efforts to get off of Xanax but it also might be a good idea to see a doctor again!
Re: EDDY (# 1)
Eddy. That wasn’t a very nice thing to say and the poster may never come back because of your answer..WTF does that even mean. “If you are being honest with yourself”. Maybe the poster isn’t a seasoned patient like some and really doesn’t know.. I’m an opiate addict on Methadone Maintenance who has a prescription of Xanax... Though no ones fault but mine, I didn’t get to my doctor in time to fill my prescription. I’m seeing my doctor tomorrow to fill it but I’m going through a living nightmare. I'm on day three without any Xanax and I never took more than one mg a day. Today I’m actually twitching and I had some Ambien left from an old script hoping to hold off a seizure. I have no idea if I’m going through WD’s or if enough time has passed for me to even have severe WD’s yet. Tell you one thing, I am going to ask for Klonopin tomorrow because I don’t want to be on Benzos forever and I know that I should switch to a longer acting benzo. This scared the crap out of me.
Hello Nate,
The timeline in your post is slightly confusing to read so I want to get some clarity before I can provide you with the best advice that I can. You said that "lately" you have only been taking .25mg twice a week but does that mean that you were previously taking a .25mg dosage more frequently or even possibly that you were taking a higher dosage until recently?
Also, if you were prescribed xanax to deal with anxiety in the first place it would make sense to me that it may return if you were to stop administering the medication, especially if you had not changed to a new anxiety medication or made a break through in some sort of anxiety therapy. Xanax changes the chemical balance in your brain so coming off of it would absolutely effect you to some degree.
Lastly I want to make sure that you have discussed your decision to come off of xanax with your primary care doctor as it can actually be quite dangerous to do so if you aren't familiar with the process. It is not advised to come off of a drug this addicting cold turkey, here is a link to a website that has some good information regarding the dangers of doing so [1] Dangers of Quitting Xanax Cold Turkey.
