Xanax Vs. Buspar (Page 12) (Top voted first)

Yes-what is the major difference between these 2 meds? I have taken xanax for several years. I'm thinking abt. changing to Buspar. Can you switch meds like these without tapering off the xanax. Does Buspar help w/ Panic attacks?

I have Complex PTSD.I got off of Cloniipin six months ago.I went to U of M,who specialize in teams.I'm 56 years old.I'm constantly vigilant,don't sleep much,diareah,rage,physical pain,terror.I can't take anti depressants.Is busier in the antidepressant family.And could it help me? I'm severe.

There is no comparison between the two. Buspar is very light weight especially if your used to xanax. The buspar probably wont help at all. I recently quit taking buapar and got switched to vistaril because buspar doesnt do a thing for me. And i am taking 30 miligrams twice to three times a day. Dont usually write comments on any sites but thought you might want to know

If I am correct, Visteral is similar to Benadryl and you have to increase it eventially to get the same effect. After a while, it just doesn't work,so you have to stop for a while and try again later,like a month or more. I might have it confused with something else,but I don't think so. Also,like Benadryl, it might make you groggy or sleepy the next day like a hangover. Ask your doctor if I am correct. Please excuse the mispellings

Buspar is not for depression, it's strictly for anxiety.

I have taken both Xanax and Buspar. Well for Xanax it has helped me for the fast acting short term use of anxiety. But honestly I dont like how Xanax feels it makes you really level out but you get the anxiety back. I have taken Buspar and it really makes you feel at ease and managable anxiety after like two weeks on it. I find it to be effective when you do yoga amd fitness trust me. The yoga and fitness really takes off the anxiety and along with the meds it begins to diminish your anxiety symptoms.

Absolutely not! Always taper Xanax or any benzo. You can start buspar while you taper. Good luck.

I have manic depressing, panic attacks and bad nervous meltdowns. What is the difference with busbars and xanax. Aren't they both benzos. I've been on 1 mg 3 times a day for a while but I still have meltdowns. Dr put me on something new called trintellix and it really seems to be helping me a lot. It is a new med. But still what is difference with the other two?

I started on (Buspar 30mg now) about 9 months ago. I feel much better everyday. Sometimes I have some break through anxiety but not too often. I like that Buspar is not addictive. I have had social anxiety all my life. The symptoms are much much milder now. I take 1 30mg in the morning and 1 30mg at night.

To Peepersmom: I hope you didn't try Buspar. I was on Valium off and on since age 19. I am 66 now. I was on Buspar and Lorazappam since last June. I was switvhed from Lorazapam to valium again this May, but the next month they took me off of Everything "cold turkey." Withdrawal has been terrible!!!My life has never been worse. I have been suicidal. Wasn't like that before.I took 20 of their stupid Buspar to get admitted to hospital to get help with my life. I looked up buspar and knew 20 would no hurt me. I felt NOTHING!!! No relief from anxiety with 20 pills. No change at all! Buspar is useless!!! They sent me home 2 days later on an anti-depressant saying it would help anxiety,depression,weight loss diarrhea + insomnia, the last four which were caused by withdrawal. It hasn't helped any of that.Almost 2 weeks ago I was given an anti-psychotic for depression,weight loss,anxiety + insomnia remaining from withdrawal. No help. Just causes weight gain even if you don't eat and increase your activity. They don't know how to help people uder 40 who abuse drugs,so they attact those over 40 who have been taking them correctly. Buspar and all the other stuff they are pushing now is USELESS!! Hope this does not happen to you!!! Feeling Crazy

To Nina. What is a nervous meltdown?I am old and don't know the current terms. Maybe if I told the Dr. I am having this, he will help me. Right now I don't know what to tell them. Thanks from feeling crazy

I have severe panic for three weeks now and my doctor won't write any benzoyl for me I keep writing me scripts but nothing helps even wrote me seroquel I really don't think seroquel is for panic attacks I think his just trying any meds to keep me hoping because he said benzoate r addictive. Any suggestions for other meds for panic attacks that r not benzos

If a person has anxiety and the worst kind of GAD possible, either make a doctor give it to you or find one who will. I have had 12 back surgeries, gall bladder, appendix and female historectomy. I'm 60 and at this point, who cares about addiction! Anxiety will ruin your life. I also lost a 4 year old boy to leukemia when I was 24. The worst hell in a woman's life is the kiss of a child!

I've been taking xanax for 2 years now. 2mg 3 to 4 times a day... now my doctor is cutting me off and prescribed me buspar 5mg instead. I just need to know if this is going to work and not have the withdrawal from the xanax? I'm nervous even thinking about the switch? ! Does anyone have any advice for me? Or have been through the same situation?

Forget Buspar. Clonzepam does not work for panic attacks, either. It is for long term poblems. Neither work for anxiety at it's worst!
