My son died of an overdose. It all started with Xanax. The problem is, eventually one is not enough. My son wanted to sleep, now his sleep is forever & my broken heart will never heal. Its not a thrill game, once you are hooked you are on the threshold of death. I will never see him marry or father a child, or engage in the sports he loved so much. Life can be great if you look at it through sober eyes. Listen to the instructions not to mix alcohol & pills, the combo is lethal.

Devistated, I am so sorry to hear about your son. My only brother died from an alcohol overdose and my only sister from a drug overdose. When my sister died I developed a severe case of PTSD. This was over 16 years ago and I have had to take a benzodiazepine every day ever since. At first I was on a low dose of Xanax, three .5mgs per day. But they were ruining my life because I would take too many a run out about a week early and it was like hell on earth. My Dr switched me to Klonopins, 1mg three times a day. Took them for 14 years then last year my Dr put me on Xanax again, this time the 2mg xanax bars and I am having a hard time again. Klonopins leave your system slowly but the Xanax....After about 6 hours the effect wears off and I either take more or have an anxiety or panic attack. I can honestly say that having to take a benzodiazepine is the worst part of my life!!! Unfortunately it's the only kind of medicine that helps my PTSD. I have asked to be weaned off a few times.

Once I was down to .25mg twice a day but had to start my regular dose again cause the PTSD got soooo bad. But If I could only go back and NEVER started taking a benzodiazepine I would. They are so addictive that it truly is a nightmare for me! I am writing all of this so if anyone else is reading this...Do yourself and your family and friends the biggest favor ever! DO NOT EVER GET ADDICTED TO BENZOS!!! I have broken several bones and have gone to a legitimate pain treatment center for years at a time. I never had a problem with the pain killers even though I know many people who use them do. I think benzos are the easiest legal substance to get addicted to and the hardest to stop taking. Devistated, again I am so sad to hear about your pain! Thanks for sharing and hopefully your post will make someone out there see that drug and alcohol doesn't just affect the person who is addicted but also every one that cares about them. I lost my only siblings and my parents lost 2 of their 3 children and it left their only surviving child (me) a total wreck who now has to deal with addiction. It's not a game.....
