Wrong Refill By Pharmacist "overdose"

I am 58 years old, I normally taking Losartan 100mg-12.5 mg as per prescription but a pharmacist refilled the wrong dose i.e., 100mg-25mg and I did not noticed that until 3 weeks later. I took the first 25mg on 11/27/15 and 2 days later I got stomach pain, muscle pain, dark urine, loss of appetite, diarrhea and lost weight 9 pounds in 6 days. I felt better on the seventh day which was 11/3/15. My co-workers said I must have stomach flu because the above symptoms have gone after one week. Now I feel normal. Should I have an evaluation for my kidney and liver? Please advise, thanks!

The 12.5mg and 25mg listed is actually Hydrochlorothiazide, which is a diuretic that helps remove excess fluid from the body to help lower blood pressure.

The symptoms you've described, as well as the rapid weight loss sound like you may have become dehydrated due to losing too much fluid from the higher dose, however, it could also have been a stomach virus. The best thing to do would be to check with your doctor, so they can check things out and help discover which caused the problem.

The FDA lists other typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and hypotension.

I took Losartan. My BP shot up to 160/110 after 3 weeks when I checked it. I called Walgreens. I had not taken this before. Was taking Diovan, Pharmacist checked where it was manufactured per my request. Just as I suspected...China! Test showed it was a placebo! I told my doc get me Teva generic Valsartan. He did and BP 130/85 now. Don't take Indian, Chinese, or any other Malaysian drug. Woman was arrested at an Indian plant for not training pill makers!
