Withdrawal From Vyvanse Experience (Page 7) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI have been on Vyvanse for 4 weeks and I am now tapering off. I was going to quit cold turkey , but I wke up this morning and felt like I'd been hit by a truck. It's been a few hours and I still feel like I have a mild case of the flu. Anyway, I started 4 weeks ago and the first 3 days I never felt better in my life. I 'd never been so productive, focused, and organized! By day 7 , I was back to my normal under- acheiving, scrammbled , self. Then my Dr. raised my dose from 30 mg to 50. Well this threw me into severe anxiety. I have been chewing my nails till they bleed. I can't seem to stop. I have a feeling of being completely overwhelmed, my house is trashed and it's driving me nuts, but I have no energy or drive to get up and clean it.....Can anyone else out there relate to this?
Try stopping it COLD. Vunase isn't nearly as strong as Adderall, btw. After 72 hours off, let us know how you feel. It's pat's like you that minimize the designer or dangerous drugs. For what indication are you taking Vynase for so long?
This is so unbelievably ignorant. You haven't experienced withdrawal symptoms, so therefore that means no one else has? I can promise you that these symptoms I'm feeling after being 2 weeks off of Vyvanse are not made up or a result of being dramatic. In fact I felt fine the first week off of it. Today is completely different and I would never wish this feeling I am experiencing upon you... There is plenty of medical/chemical evidence behind the fact that there ARE symptoms behind withdrawal. Not everyone has them. So, good for you. Don't bash the ones who are experiencing them.
That post below was toward Nick
Hey, I know we aren't supposed to advocate illegal drugs, but I took 30 mg for a year and had similar symptoms when I quit cold turkey. Something that helped for me was marijuana. I've never smoked a lot but my best friend does, and when I told him I was feeling s***ty he told me I should give it a try. At first I thought it would only make things worse but he told me that marijuana activates your dopamine receptors which are the same ones that vyvanse stimulate. So I did and it definitely helped me forget about the depression. We smoked everyday for about a week and idk if it was the marijuana or just my friends support but anyways be strong you'll get through it.
Your dose is too high then. Lower the dose back to 30. 50 mg requires a high tolerance. Your doctor is a fool if he thought it was a smart move to raise you to 50. The drug not working was probably more of a placebo than anything else, because vyvanse takes a long time to build a tolerance. Some people can straight away take 50, obviously you can't. Your doctor is an i****, just stop taking it and go back to 30, and everything will be fine.
Thank you for your post. Can I ask what dose of Vyvance you're on please? Many thanks
I have taken vyvanse for over five years now, for my ADHD and binge eating disorder, and have recently been having trouble with my insurance company. I have been taking 2 50mg capsules of vyvanse for the majority of that time, which before in the first year I tapered up to it. I weigh 210 pounds and am 5.5. Recently I have had three periods of withdrawal, the first two lasted about a week a piece, the first one in January and the other in July, and then currently today, because I ran out of my medication and I either had to get prior authorization or because the doc sent the wrong script. Currently my withdrawal symptoms are as thus: When I woke up, I felt nauseous, lethargic and anxious, and didn't want to be separated from my grandmother, and then later on in the day I started to have slight indigestion, probably from the anxiety, and then, as always when I go through withdrawal, the back of my head starts to hurt, and thtoughout the day I feel like I might be sick if I eat anything, and I am currently hoping that my script arrives in the mail tommorow. I was recently forced to drop down (with no tapering down) to 1 70mg capsule (I've been on that since July) because my insurance company believes I am addicted to this medication. I am not addicted, they have been told that this is what my doctor perscribed me. I am currently trying very hard not to feel ill, but I am currently at a loss as to how to cope the rest of the year on such a low dose. It feels almost as if I haven't even taken any vyvanse, and in turn I feel as if I forgot to take it, and yet later on I remember I did. I hate feeling like this, I just wish things could go back to normal and I had my old dosage back, I know I would feel so much better. I'm afraid that without my original dosage, I won't be able to concentrate on my college work and that I may fail my classes, and simply cannot afford for this to happen. I have come too far in my life to have some fat smucks in suits tell me what I can and cannot take. I have my next doc appointment in October and am hopping to somehow resolve this issue before the school semester ends in December, and the second semester starts in January of next year. My college classes start next week on the 15, which is a Tuesday. (Isn't that just lovely? Sarcasm)
Totally agree. Just really sleepy no other symptoms.
Re: beth (# 6)
My dad has abused his vyvanse last week taking 1 70mg pill in the a.m and another in the afternoon. Now he has none left, so the last 3 days have been hell. He is mentally and physically abusive. He has kicked our dog and destroys everything around him. His grandsons are terrified of him. His mania is at an all time max. If u even make eye contact with him he screams at you and has called my kids f*****g i*****s; they are 5 and 6 years old. I'm lost right now myself. He is not my dad and I am scared for mine n my families well-being.
Re: Sebastiaan (# 5)
My doctor ten days ago took me off 80 mg of vyvanse and put me on mydais, well I was ok but not great but day three and now been ten days, my eyes are burning have no energy I have even had a low grade fever. Do on day five she took me off mydais and put me on 50 mg instead of back on the 80 . So am in having withdrawals even though I'm still taking vyvanse? Just not as much. Someone please help me. Is it withdrawals or am I getting sick?
Re: Webb (# 10)
Geodon inhibits dopamine and when you are coming off Vyvanse, you are also lowering dopamine so be prepared to feel low. You should talk to your psych about this because being on Vyvanse and Geodon doesn’t sound like the right combination - they work against each other, so good thing you ae getting off one. Just make sure it’s the right one.
I have been taking ADHD medications almost as long as i can remember since middle school I have been on 70mg Vyvanse and I'm about to turning 18 soon and I'm really worried won't be able to function with out them and I'm worried I might make stupid decisions like going back to benzo which I have had previously problems with last year and I have been clean off pills since July of 2016 and Vyvanse has helped me but I'm really worried about how my mental and emotional State might Be when I'm off them I have by July to be off of them cause then I have no insurance im worried about weight gain or that my girlfriend might not like the person under the meds cause I can be pretty hyper off of them there are lots of things I'm worried about any one have any recommendations??

Just because you did not experience severe reactions to stopping vyvanse does not making others experiences invalid. We are all different, with different genetic makeups. Please don’t undermine other people’s experiences when they share them. We all come here to share.
Yes. Take it with a benzodiazepene, a smaller dose of benzos like Xanax, and it will make all your side effects and problems w vyvanse go away. I went to Mexico for 2 weeks and I was running out of Adderall. But thank god we had a pharmacy in my uncles place. I got to fill my prescription there .... and I was able to bring my meds back cause they didn’t check my bags!
ive been on vyvance every day for 4 months and im considering taking a break from it for a while but in the past when i got off my other ADHD meds that i took in the past(concerta adderall ritalin ect. ect.) it was the next day that i felt different i would basically feel like i was drunk i would act like a moron i was overly happy bubbily and other would say annoying becuase i was so overly hyper..after a day i would go back to my normal ADHD self ...but i have never experienced actually having real with draw symptoms like aces and pains .
number 14... 400 mg i highly doubt that no dr. would prescribe that much to u 70mgs is high as vyvanse gets iv been on this s*** goin on 5 years and i have nothin but good things to say about it pppffff 400 mg give me a break.... unless ur a tweeker lol
This post is so irresponsible...
Dont feel trapped I'm right here with you. Im 16 years old I feel like my eye are strained I'm extremel tired from time to time I can kind of do activities but when it's over I feel completely exhausted, I can barely move, I stumble when I walk, my neck hurts, my left arm hurts, my hearts speeds up rapidly, I get confused, and get very forgetful. I feel like I'm not in my own body, it's like I can operate and stuff but it's like it's not real like its real but not, I have slurred speech and shake very very bad, and If I get into a fight with my mom I think kill myself, but then I think no cause then I'll burn for the rest of my life. Just I feel like idk. It's amazing how the body works. It's like I'm high and drunk at the same time but not all together idk if that makes sence. But your not alone, reading this kind of calms me down but I still feel this way. I've been trying to get my mom to take me to the doctor, but my dad just got out of 5 bypass surgerys and she's stressed out. She won't take me and I feel like I have to go to my granny's or I'm going to die because she gets how I feel. It's hard when you have nobody to believe you.
I am 30 years old and was taking Vyvanse for 5 years, dosages ranging from 40-80 and I stopped taking it about a month ago. While I was on it, I obviously lost a lot of weight, my skin broke out with the worst painful acne ever, I was suffering from major anxiety. I would have an anxiety attack about once or twice a week, I was extremely irritable and moody, I couldn't sleep so I was prescribed more drugs for that. I would take 150mg-200mg of trazadone for sleep. Sometimes I felt shaky and jittery. I started to develope an immunity for it and that's why the Dr. need to raise my dosage. I wasn't liking how I was acting on it and I was tired of all the side effects so I decided to stop without gradually stopping it. Since I stopped it, my face has cleared up, my anxiety is gone, I can sleep again and I feel like my self again. Even though I'm kind of impulsive without a filter I'm still happier. The only downfall is the weight gain. I think that will cause depression for sure. I try to exercise and eat right but my metabolism is shot and I feel like no matter what I do I won't be able to get this weight off. I'm 5'2" and weigh 155. Working out is hard because I have to start from scratch to build stamina and muscle. I hope my metabolism will get better and this will pass. I like being off medication and I want to eventually but gradually take my 12 year old son off of his meds too.
Ask your doctor about Concerta. I'm 17 and have been on medication for 10 years and I am currently on vyvanse but previously on concerta. No specific reason for the switch, I was just wanting to experiment. But concerta doesn't make you as a moody and is effective!!
