What are the effects during the weaning off period of Dilaudid?

Try rapid detox treatment. They will get you through the withdrawals in a real hospital and with sedatives. The Waismann treatment in California is the best one around for Dilaudid addiction treatment.
Re: Dar55 (# 6)
Hi Dar, You could taper off the dilaudid, may take off half right away. If you only use it for breakout pain you might not notice only taking half. Or take a third off each week, might be better. If you are planning to get off all the opioids you should work with your doctor. If you taper off yourself plan for 4 months of very hard work. The doctor can fix you up with suboxone and get you off quicker and more pain free, less withdrawal. I've been tapering for 3 months now and am getting close, down to 8mg dilaudid and just took off the smallest of fentanyl patches a few days ago. So far so good, I take 4mg when my bones feel chilled the initiation phase for me. I will take the final plunge later this week.
Best of luck and will power for you.
My question is whether I will have withdrawals from stopping Dilaudid? I have 50 to 60 mg I take daily of methadone, along with 1mg Ativan + 25mg Phenergan + 5mg Buspar daily. So the main question is, will all that I take stop the withdrawals from discontinuing 28mg of Dilaudid for breakthrough pain? Please, someone, help me with this question.
David, you are correct with the side effects. I've had three pain pumps put in, one every 5 years for a total of 15 years for RSD. I found what was called a granuloma in my spinal cord so I had no choice but to be rapid detoxed by 50% one day and then 2 days later 50%. This is day 8 and I'd like to say in the most polite way that this sucks and I'm home doing this detox so it doesn't help when you have anxiety and depression. You can't eat or drink or take meds for the depression so therefore just makes one big ball of a mess. All I can do is give it to God. I know that this will pass. Try to be as patient as you can. Work with your doctor. That will help you get through it but don't accept any oral dilaudid. Stay away from the opiates if you can as it's redundant. Best of luck.
I have been dialudid 2mg sometimes 4mg every 6 hours for last two weeks post surgery. I stopped taking them two days ago cold turkey and felt jittery with goosebumps just not myself. I called my doctor and they told me to taper off with 2mg this morning and 2mg tonight but then stop. How long will I have these symptoms? Please help
I thought I had a sinus infection as soon as I stopped taking it. Antibiotics the doctor gave me did nothing! I sneeze all the time. My arms & leg muscles are in agony and I have a perm ileostomy that is so burnt all over my tummy. Its very caustic to the skin. I have been lucky so far no vomiting yet but very upset stomach. It helps to get in hot water and soak and then the few moments your feeling strong enough do some light stretching or walking. I m so weak, my hubby got me Pedilyte sp? and chicken broth. I wake up at 3 am every night in a ton of pain. I can barely walk up our stairs at all without having to stop 2 or 3 times. Migraine headaches. Drink a ton of water all the way through it!!! Do not allow yourself to get dehydrated! I was put on Hydromorphone 4 mgs q 4 hrs for 5-7 yrs. I get cold and hot flashes. And I have Vertigo very bad. I have not taken any of my meds for almost 2 weeks now. I just hope this will change soon. If you can do it weining off slowly, it would be so much better now that I am in the thick of it. Make yourself eat and drink for your muscles!!! I can't say that enough!!! If you have a spa in the back yard it does help the muscle pain!!! I tried it today. Good luck to everyone out there going through this!!! Your in my thoughts Big Time!!!! I am 62 yrs old. I will never touch that stuff ever again even if a doc tells me to for my pain!!! I feel I got a very raw deal on this. You trust your Doctor and I asked mine "don't start me on this if I am going to have to get off it at some point!" Well, guess where we all are now? I just hope there is an end to this soon. Take Care and I hope this helps ;)
