Hello, Katie! How are you?
They might, if it wasn't prescribed for you, but I can't say for sure, since each doctor can set their own policies on that.
As to whether or not Wellcare covers it, have you tried checking with them? Or asking the doctor you have the appointment with?
The FDA lists this medication as being a narcotic that is most commonly used to treat drug addiction, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
Does anyone else know?
If it is your very first appt. you might be ok. He may address why it would be in your system though. But until you read & sign the Narcotic Usage Contract you may be able to continue. It is always left to the Doctor.
And once again, the FDA doesn't know what it's talking about. Xanax is NOT a narcotic, nor is its' chief purpose to treat addiction. It's listed as a narcotic only because it can be addictive. It is actually a benzodiazepine whose primary purpose is to treat anxiety. Another example of the government's ignorance and twisting of facts to suit their purposes.
No but Xanax is a highly controlled substance often abused and under Federal scrutiny. When people post here they ask these questions because they don't want to be cut off from their other drugs. Yes I do agree, Xanax is not a narcotic!
Hello Eddy! You're absolutely correct, of course. Xanax is undoubtedly another one of those medications that is often misused and which is, therefore, closely monitored by doctors and governmental agencies whose job it is to keep an eye on these things. It is also another example of a medication that can be so helpful when used appropriately and as prescribed by patients who have a legitimate reason to take it, i.e., to treat anxiety and panic attacks. Yet these same patients find themselves, as you said, "scrutinized" and looked at with suspicion due to the abuse of Xanax by those who are using it illegally and for other than its' intended purpose. I know it is also used to help people discontinue taking a narcotic which is another legitimate reason for its' use but I think its' original purpose was to treat anxiety. Whatever the case, it is so unfortunate that those who desperately need the help this medication can provide find it more difficult to receive that help because of the way so many abuse and misuse it.
