It's just sad in 2016 big pharma & the DEA take a abused drug that works for people with chronic everyday pain because it gets abused or makes broke people a lot of money, but doesn't beer, alcohol get abused and make people a lot of money too!!???? I still see them on the market! And Cigarettes etc. I could go on an on naming abused things, but there all still on the market!

Thats totally correct Mark, i dont know if you read many comments on here....but this has been said a few times by myself & others. It is disgusting what is happening in the US, & here we need to keep our fingers crossed that we will continue to have options in regards to formula choice, its precaurious though & all we need is a politition with an addict in their family to come into power.....that could force us to follow you guys. Addicts will change drugs, its what they do they dont get clean because their first choice is no longer available

Everytime I have seen a pain specialist, my GP tells them that the goal is to get me off all pain meds by trying everything else available re: injections, physical therapy, accupression, accupuncture, TENS machines, etc. Each time, I became a human guinea pig. It cost me thousands and I had to endure increased pain. And since I no longer want to see the pain specialists because of what they put me through, my GP will only keep me on the nasty OP formula. It is better than nothing but, not by much. Thank you Michelle for your advice. I do appreciate you taking an interest. I wish I lived in Australia. I would be doing a lot better like I was before. I hope they never change it for you guys. I read that Canada is thinking of going completely abuse-deterrent too. I cannot understand why they are concentrating on drug addicts and the drugs they abuse instead of giving pain sufferers the drugs they need, whether they have a potential for abuse or not. It should not matter. The goal should always be relief from pain. Instead it's, "We'll give you this medication with tons of polymers and other fillers. You will only get partial relief from pain and you will probably have a stomach ache everyday. But, look on the positive side. No one else will be able to abuse your prescription. Now, doesn't that help your pain and your stomach ache." Whatever are they thinking?

Thats great news Zaborav.....but any mention on how the tablet can be abused is very bad form, esp considering this is why legitimate patients are suffering with only having the new tamper resistant OP. Sorry but i find it really careless....

Well, people in my area aren't going to have to worry about the difference between OCs & OPs or the difference between any long acting pain med for that matter. All the doctors in my area have made a pact to take all long acting pain meds away from all patients. They claim that research has proven that after taking them for many yrs they don't work anyway, so there is no point in taking them. Every chronic pain patient around here has had their dose cut in half over a 2 month period, with the goal of being pain med free in the next 2 months. There is no concern for the patient's diagnosis or their pain levels. All chronic pain patients must and will be medication free in the next 2 months. None of the doctors care about pain; obviously they are viewing it as a drug problem. Who wants to live in pain? I know I don't.

Michelle, ONR is the printing on OxyNorm. OP do not exist outside the US and those countries it is distributed by Purdue.
Everywhere else in the world, OC are as they have always been, but watch for overpricing in Romania especially. UK and NL are the best countries. I thought most OC patients now got them from Europe... oh and there is no such thing as IR OxyContin - 'Contin' is short for CONTINUOUS, meaning continuous release!

Deanne...who are you referring to when you posted your comment..?
I find it crazy that anyone who comes onto this page has a go at people that are stating their opinion....
The people on here have done nothing but help me with imfortation and support..I think we have to keep in mind that most of them are suffering with pain and a lot are frustrated that they cannot receive the pain medication that they need...

They re not even remotely close to the original OC formula. I'm concerned about what this new formula might be doing to me. At least I knew the olf formula eventually disolved, I'm not sure about this new version. Hopefully someone will make a similiar version as soon as they are allowed. I think the original patent expires 2013. I know that seems like forever but you know someone wants to get in on making the money that Purdue is losing. Once a generic comes out Purdue will be the loser.

I agree! My mom complains of the same thing. She was given the 40mg OCs for years until purdue got a wild hair up their asses and changed the formula. She says she gets no pain relief with the ops, and I can tell she's telling the truth just by observing her reactions after she takes her dose. And she does not abuse them. They, (the ops) make her nauseous, unlike the original OCs.

Hi, I am writing bc I had been receiving the original oxycontin for years. For about 3months, I was unable to get the original & was taking the OP formula. I was terribly sick, hives, nausea, hormonal changes & more. I was ready to switch to a new med when I suddenly started receiving the original 'OC' again through my mail order service. After about 2-3 weeks, EVERY one of my symptoms went away. It took me awhile to be convinced that my symptoms were indeed from the new formula but there is way too many coincidences to say 'they may have been related'. Honestly, my LEAST complaint was pain relief. Yes, the OP was much less affective but my other symptoms were so overwhelming that it almost trumped the pain. The reason I am writing now: I had sent in my new rx fill to the mail service I use (Walgreens), I just received a call from them that as of May 20th, all generic have been discontinued. I'm a wreck here as I am petrified to give these 'OPs' another chance. I'm afraid of all those symptoms returning, I'm afraid of being in pain, I'm afraid of what is not yet 'known' about this 'new' formula. I have a very young child & my quality of life with him was horribly affected when I was taking the OPs. Has anyone heard of any REAL problems with the OPs, meaning long term medical problems? Please, I'm begging for answers here as I do not know what my options are as well as I obviously do not want to be harming my body long term from what the 'unknowns' still are.

There is no shell!!! Did you even read my post??? Please explain how a wax coating with no supporting structure keeping it together can pass through your digestive system intact!? The point is people are not getting the drug completely dissolved or they wouldn't be complaining about it not working. I understand a capsule made of cellulose can pass undissolved. OPs ARE NOT CAPSULES. You work for a drug company don't you?

I can't beleive those who really beleive Purdue changed their oxycontin formula out of concern for 'death's from patient's overdosing' The fact's are purdue was going to lose their patent on their oxycontin..thus the new op's. The trial's conducted on this atrocity are laughable. One pill to a opiate innocent one week and another the following week. No trial's done in ccp and no study of side effect's. I smell lawsuit's galore. Even purdue's sale rep's state op's are a joke. Not only are op's ineffective but purdue blocked other compnaies from making generic and with these new oxycontin the price has risen substantially! All about money..greed and power. And it's about to go tumbling down upon them. Sales have tumbled..patient's making their exoduse from this shameful company. All trust has been violated! Meanwhile patient's are NOT taking the same drug oc as purdue claim's..The fda had a report they took down from internet saying in essence additional med's(heart.diabetes.) are leeched into the op's gel. Pretty much making them ineffective.

concerned..i am so sorry for the addiction your sister's suffer from. But dear..chronic pain patient's live devastating lives from unrelieved pain that lead many of these ppl. to sucide. Getting rid of opiate's is not the answer to addiction's..that is simply treating a symtom.not the root cause of addiction's.Car accident's take lives daily..do we get rid of car's? Matches burn down houses.do we get rid of matches? The old formula gave million's of chronic pain patient's lives back..it allowed one to live well without the drugged feeling. Oxycontin is oxycodone time released. That's all it is.To remove opiates for pain patient's is cruel and barbaric.

Concerned, I'm sorry to hear about your family and the tragic consequences of misuse and abuse of this product. But as chughett57 just stated, I would be in absolute misery without it.

I broke my back in 1972 (T5,6,7), but my real problems began in the mid 90's when my spinal cord was getting further damaged by the earlier fusion. Since then I've had seven extensive surgeries and have four 2-foot long rods in my back and am now confined to a wheelchair. The last operation fixed one problem but created another called "flat back" so it looks like I will have to go under the knife again. I take a LOT of this medicine (about 500 mg/day), both in fast acting and longer acting form and without it, I would not be able to get out of bed in the morning. Chances are I will be taking it for the rest of my life as well.

After my last operation while I was in intensive care, they were only giving me the amount that normal people receive and I was in misery. I could not convince the nurses that my body needed more for relief. Luckily I had brought my meds with me from home in my backpack and I had a visitor give it to me. After taking a normal dose for me, a large part of the pain was controlled and I felt human again and convinced the nurses to put me back on my regular dosage.

I guess my point is, while there are a bunch of people who are abusing opiates such as Oxycontin, it is a blessing for far more people who take it responsibly. Please don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

I have chosen to be nice in this reply, though it was difficult at first.
@ Concerned, I feel bad that your sister has chosen to break the law, get addicted to a drug she was not prescribed, or needed. ( I presume that is how it happened, though I do not know) and has now chosen to feed her addiction with heroin, all the while putting a great strain and burden on your family. I get it. I have watched friends and their families go down that path. It sucks. But, she chose that path.
Jan 13th, 2001 about 2:30am a drunk driver hit my car almost head on. Investigators came to the conclusion he was traveling upwards of 80mph, and had more than 2x the legal alcohol limit in the State of New York. I herniated 7 discs in my neck & back and shattered my nose & cheek bones that make up my sinus cavity. My GF was in a coma for nearly 2 months and has a laundry list of permanent problems. I have had horrific Migraines ever since. In Feb. 2010 I had yet another surgery to repair the internal areas of my nose/sinuses. Post op I had a full blown Migraine that lasted for 35 days.
I could go on & on but I think my point is in there, Without Oxycontin/oxycodone or other opiate medications I would have committed suicide long ago.
I feel for you & your sister, but to say that they should just take these drugs away from everyone is not only ridiculous, but to me it is offensive. It is people like your sister that made them change the formula, so people like me have to take strange plastics and other unknown chemicals into our bodies and not get quite as much relief as we once did.
I'm sorry for the long rant, but that sh@t just really P&^sses me off.

Wonder if this article can clear up this argument of addiction vs dependency:

"One of the greatest obstacles chronic pain patients face in their quest for adequate pain relief is the widespread misunderstanding of the difference between physical dependence on a drug and addiction."

Being that mundipharma Patent in Australia expires July 23rd 2014, they lose control. Around June 6 news came of the federal government approving a generic version based on the old one. The release date is scheduled for August 14. Mundipharma is trying everything they can to have the government decline and make it only viable for the formula. If that were to happen it would be a big delay like the USA giving mundipharma the full market longer.

However that does not seem to be the case and it looks like we will be following the steps of Canada.

I am so sick of hearing people say bad things about other people and how they are junkies and how you are in real pain and you have been taking pills for 5,10,15,20 years and how you think its wrong that you have to go without the good pills ,because they are junkies and abuse them. Nobody knows what other people went through and why they are addicted to whatever. If you have been taking pills for all those years and for some reason you was cut off, you would be crying and freaking out trying to find anything to kill the pain. No matter why you are taking em you are dependent on them. If your cancer or aids or whatever was gone today and you was cut off the meds at a high dose you could become the person your calling a junkie. They could have got hurt or sick and a Dr. prescribed pills and they lost they're insurance or anything and they had to buy em off the streets just to get to work. And one thing leads to another they are homeless, jobless, And no telling what else. People who abuse drugs or alcohol most often do it to deal with pain. Even if its not physical like yours it may be mental. She or he could have been shot up with drugs from a early age locked in a room and raped by 100 men a day for 10 years and put on the street to be pimped out and cant deal unless they are high . No matter what it is! Its not going to make things better if people keep calling others junkies or assumes that your pain is worse than the next persons. The governments wants the revenue from the drug companies. They started using drugs on soldiers and inmates years ago to see if it would be profitable and it was. And most drugs are government made and The drug pushers are the doctors. Because if your addicted you will keep coming back. But allot of people have ups and downs and some are rich and some are poor. Some are good and some are bad. Nobody is perfect and mistakes are made. People should try to stop judging and dogging others and try to offer a bit of positive reinforcement or some tips on how to get em help. Why kick em while they are down? Do you really want to be the reason some one commits suicide? You sticking your knife in a already bad wound wont help it heal! Be Kind Or Be Quite so us who want to help people and make the world a better place can!

They will not bring the original formula back. Preventing people from abusing this med is top priority. Chronic pain won't kill you, drug addiction will.
