RPH, if this thread bothers you, then don't read it. Or reply to it. The new ones didn't work as well for me. I wasn't aware at first of the change in them by the pharmaceutical company. Thought my pain was just getting worse. My doc changed the dosage and the way I take them. Since they cannot be split in two, he writes my script for two in the morning and two in the evening. However, I don't take them that way. I take one every four hours through the day. It keeps my pain from yo-yoing.

whatever, I said clearly, that it doesn't work for EVERYONE. However for MOST it works just fine. Maybe you are one of those who it doesn't work for. No problem. I take 8x80 a day, it works fine for me. Everyone is differnt. Dont take it personal, I am not finger pointing. No problem, I'm sorry it isn't working for you. There are those who cant take it, there were those who couldn't take the old ones but can take the new ones. Go figure. Dont get defensive about it though.

To RPH-Of course it works for you, taking (8) 80mg/day!!! I don't know how you function. As for me, my doctor had me on (2) 40mg/day-one in the am and one in the pm. That was fine, until they changed the formula. Now, these op's start wearing off after 6-7 hours. They do NOT control the pain like the old formula. I don't know how you can say what you're saying until you've walked in each of our shoes. I don't crush/snort/chew them. It seems like you think we're all junkies. I have a good job that pays well, I'm a mother, grandmother, and would like to live a "normal" life without all this pain like I did before the reformulation.

Sorry dear..i didn't mean to jump all over you. Sure is a touchy subject isn't it? I have given the new op's a year telling myself that it was going to work..i have played so many mind games trying to convince myself it was just fine and as my body became use to it..it would work fine. It doesn't work fine. I for the first time in year's feel every nerve impinging on my neck and midback as well as every ache in my joint's. It's a deep ache. Also since taking the new op's my blood pressure and blood sugar's are up and i worry about my blood pressure and blood sugar med's leaching into the gell from the op making them extended release or not releasing at all..one of the problem's pointed out by the FDA. The new op's..something is so very wrong..they just don't act like extended action oxycodone. I know my body and these are not the same.

You know what i sometimes wonder about with these new op's? I worry that the gell from taking several op's a day will wick undigested material..forming a beazour(basically a 'hairball) and will build up day after day where future op's pill's will sit undesolved in it and one day they ALL will disolve causing me to overdose. My death would be listed as overdose and it will be one more reason for the dea to call 'foul' and remove all pain relievers from market. Not to mention my family and friend's will think the worst of me.lol.how's that for being morbid so early in the a.m. But seriously how can they not have the capablity to do this. I guess it doesn't help when there have been day's i feel a 'dumping' sensation.

I've walked in your shoes, trust me. I have been on OxyContin since 1995, even before, doing FDA trials. As soon as it hit the market and was available where I live, I was prescribed them. From 1980 until about 1993/4, I was told "you have to live with it", Then the studies came out for oxycontin, then the OC came on the market, thenthe OP. I've seen it or experienced just about everything one can. As a pharmacist, I've talked to my regulars who it doesn't work for. And, because I take 8x80 a day, "of course it works", hey thats almost a twenty year tolerance. When the OP first came out, I was in withdrawals for about 3 days, becuase they start working so much slower. It wasn't until I had taken enough that it built up enough. Do I like the new ones? Not particularly, they give me stomach cramps. The old ones did not. The dose is titrated for pain relief. It takes 8x80 for me. If it takes 2x10 for you, GREAT. It

I'm with you on wanting to be normal. Being able to take it every three to four hours works so much better for me. I have never abused drugs, and don't intend to start. Even though this thread has ventured away from the original line, I believe we can help each other by giving ideas. I orginally found out about 'splitting' by taking smaller doses more often through another thread. Sure helped me.

I have been on oxy's for years and don't like these new pills that are substituted. They don't work. I was wondering how you are able to order the original ones through the mail. Please respond!!!!!!

there might be a few of some oddball sizes but I can assure you they dont have it in quantity, as the wholesalers have only been shipping the new stuff for about 18 months. Any that anyone has is old stock becasue being in a small town or a small pharmacy that they ordered some and the person never picked it up. Its just a lark they have it. Some of the big chains bought up all the old stuff, all the generics, etc, when they got word of a change. The only hope is that some generic company will make it the old way as soon as the patent is off I think another year. That is the hope. Purdue never will go back. They had too much negative press, lawsuits and attention from DEA and others due to the high abuse and street value of the old stuff. They wont go back, they might change what we have today, but I dont think they would ever go back.

You people are all ADDICTS! I know because, I myself, am an addict. The medication works the same way! If you are not getting the same relief, it is because you were breaking it down or chewing it up. Who are you trying to fool? You referring to them as "OC'S" only better proves my theory. You think pharmacists are behind the counter talking about OC'S? I doubt it.. I have been clean for only a month now but feel like a whole new person. You guys should try it sometime and improve your quality of life! I know, it's hard to imagine a happy life without the medication, but it's out there. Trust me

What were yo taking pain pill's for? And what are you doing for pain now that your off? Dear it's a common mistake to point ones finger at everyone who need's pain med's if you yourself is an addict. It's also very foolish and wrong.

Honey, you're sadly mistaken. It's NOT easy to point fingers, but I've been in the game long enough to know that most of these people posting about the meds not working the same, are 100% more likely to be addicts. The fact of the matter is, if you've been on the medication for over a year, you are also ADDICTED. You are certainly dependant on the drug..

I WAS prescribed oxycontin upon having a car wreck several years ago. I've had injections in my vertebrate, have done physical therapy, and also the meds. Once I could no longer break up the oxycontin, I did what just about EVERYONE did, and switched over to the immediate release (Perc 30's). That's something the drs should also realize people were doing. None the less, I didn't post anything to point fingers, I'm simply hopeful that some of you will wake up! If your judgement is CONSTANTLY clouded and you're not in the right state of mind, you've not living life to your ability. Pain killers are a MASK, and you know it as well as I do. It doesn't HEAL ANYTHING. It just covers it up..

Even though I do still suffer from pain, I deal with it. I live with it, because I have to. I have to for my children, my family, and for anyone who's ever cared about me. You should consider the same..

Some people are addicts, and some people are dependent. We will both go through withdrawals if we stop. The difference is this, those of us who are dependent will have excruciating pain that is mind boggling. Obviously you are an addict, or you would know this.

P.S. I am a hairstylist. I have to be clear headed to do the job I do. I do hair replacement. My meds have been adjusted to cover my pain...mostly. If I could go off these meds today, I would. I sooo miss a glass of wine. Berringer White Zinfindel. Memories now.

You need to read in depth official info. A shell or ghost can be passed with all medication being received in system. And by the way this info was in paperwork of the old oxycontin. I definately agree that the new "OP" is not good but do some in depth research regarding the possibility that you can pass the whole pill yet medication has been asorbed in you body. Once again, this info is regarding the old medication also and not just the new

Yeah, you're right, I'm an addict. It's the same thing as being dependent, basically... Don't tell me about pain, I've had 6 surgeries and almost lost my life TWICE because of them. Maybe you can't read, I don't know... Like I said, I didn't come on here to judge people, but it's kind of hard not to hearing some of these ridulous stories.. I suffer from pain every day. Sorry to break it to you, but you're heads still off in a bubble, regardless if the meds are to treat pain. I know this from experience. Upon becoming clean, I was embarrassed and ashamed at some of my actions, which I would have never even noticed otherwise. I was put on the meds legitly, and never acquirred them illegally, yet I still consider myself to be an addict. Like I said in my FIRST POST, I CAN own up to that. It's not something that I'm scared to say, so realize that when I'm calling someone else one, I've also admitted it to MYSELF before any of you..
