Will Oxycontin Be Changed Back To Original Formula (Page 4)
Updatedis Oxycontin going back to their old formula? OC instead of OP.
Chronic Pain doc's by Law cannot just tell you on your next visit that your are done, cut off, they are no longer treating you. If you have a legit Opiate contract with them, even if you fail a UA or do something else stupid enough to be thrown out, they have to give you enough meds to either ween down, or have enough time to find a new prescribing doc. It is written in plain English in my contract with my doc.....Don't let people push you around, know your rights. And if you do not have an opiate contract, demand one....
My last pain doc cut me off with three weeks worth of meds. I couldn't get into a new doc for a month and a half. Old doc cut me off due my refusal of epidurals in my neck. (At the same visit) Had to go back to my family doc to get help till I could get into the new doc's office.
I have read of how Dr' will cut off patient's pain med' if the patient refuses intrusive procedure's. You know what this is basically? It's blackmail! This is what our heathcare provider's have sunk to. I have read of the very dangerous procedure's done at pain clinic''s..patient's losing bladder function and oftn increased pain and nerve damage..as long as one endure painful often damaging procedure's done then you can get pain relief but the moment you say no more..then your dropped as a patient. How corrupt our dr' have become.
I agree. We have switched strengths two or three times trying to get it to work as well. Is it me, or does anyone feel very weird all over your body after you take one of the new ones? It takes about an hour for my body to settle down from the sensations that go through the muscles. Right now I am trying one 20mg tablet every four hours instead of one 40 mg tablet every twelve. It does seem to work better that way. Not so groggy, and keeps me from the roller coaster ride.
I am weary over this constant battle to aquire good medical care as well as pain relief. I also am on the new op's. No matter how much i tell myself they are the same as the old formula..i can't continue to decieve myself because they are NOT the same.Tell that to your Dr/pharmaceutical company and they will disagree. It is true that they keep one from serious withdrawal and there is some pain relief but all in all they just don't cover the pain well. And what patient's are paying for the new formula for the amount of pain relief..well... I take many other med's for various ailment's and i could swear they are not working as well. How could they..after one takes a op and they gell up ..all other med's wick into the gell.Face it..we are at the mercy of greedy pharmceutal's and dr's who own stock in them.Once i strted the new op's i have sting's and itching and a constant upset stomach.I still can't trust the plastic in these. How long before op patients become ill from all the plastic we are consuming?
chugg..i to take 20mg of the new op's.May i share what worked the best for me..i am precribed 4 20mg. a day. I take 2 20mg first thing in the morning. I then take my 3rd op 6 hour's later and then the last 20mg. before bed. The 2 20's in the a.m. seemed to cover that morning pain. The complaint about strange muscle pain..one of the major complaints from op patient's is the feeling of flu. Did you know there is a flu called teflon flu. Worker's in teflon factories inhaling teflon often came down with flu caused by spraying teflon. Many patients taking the new formula have also come down with this flu( plastic in the formulation of the new op's) Ihope you feel better..isn't it amazing we take med's for diseases and often the med's are worse than the illness?
I just think this drug needs to be discontinued all together. My entire family has fallen apart from my sisters drug addiction, and it has not stopped, and it looks like it will not either. Since they changed their formula many addicts, such as my sister, who were addicted to it have turned to heroin. Oxy just needs to go away, if they go back to the original formula then my sister will never get better.
Concerned, thanks for your concern. I am sorry for your family, but there are so many of us who need this med. It just needs to go back to the original formula. I myself cannot take morphine and I have tried methadone, which I found I am allergic to. So what else is there? I take my meds exactly as prescribed. I do not have a tendency toward addiction, but I am dependent upon oxycontin. I always will be, as I have permanent nerve damage in my lower spine due to an epidural. You are speaking from the heart, which I understand. I have a brother who is an alcoholic. His choice to be the way he is.
concerned..i am so sorry for the addiction your sister's suffer from. But dear..chronic pain patient's live devastating lives from unrelieved pain that lead many of these ppl. to sucide. Getting rid of opiate's is not the answer to addiction's..that is simply treating a symtom.not the root cause of addiction's.Car accident's take lives daily..do we get rid of car's? Matches burn down houses.do we get rid of matches? The old formula gave million's of chronic pain patient's lives back..it allowed one to live well without the drugged feeling. Oxycontin is oxycodone time released. That's all it is.To remove opiates for pain patient's is cruel and barbaric.
Concerned, I'm sorry to hear about your family and the tragic consequences of misuse and abuse of this product. But as chughett57 just stated, I would be in absolute misery without it.
I broke my back in 1972 (T5,6,7), but my real problems began in the mid 90's when my spinal cord was getting further damaged by the earlier fusion. Since then I've had seven extensive surgeries and have four 2-foot long rods in my back and am now confined to a wheelchair. The last operation fixed one problem but created another called "flat back" so it looks like I will have to go under the knife again. I take a LOT of this medicine (about 500 mg/day), both in fast acting and longer acting form and without it, I would not be able to get out of bed in the morning. Chances are I will be taking it for the rest of my life as well.
After my last operation while I was in intensive care, they were only giving me the amount that normal people receive and I was in misery. I could not convince the nurses that my body needed more for relief. Luckily I had brought my meds with me from home in my backpack and I had a visitor give it to me. After taking a normal dose for me, a large part of the pain was controlled and I felt human again and convinced the nurses to put me back on my regular dosage.
I guess my point is, while there are a bunch of people who are abusing opiates such as Oxycontin, it is a blessing for far more people who take it responsibly. Please don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.
I have chosen to be nice in this reply, though it was difficult at first.
@ Concerned, I feel bad that your sister has chosen to break the law, get addicted to a drug she was not prescribed, or needed. ( I presume that is how it happened, though I do not know) and has now chosen to feed her addiction with heroin, all the while putting a great strain and burden on your family. I get it. I have watched friends and their families go down that path. It sucks. But, she chose that path.
Jan 13th, 2001 about 2:30am a drunk driver hit my car almost head on. Investigators came to the conclusion he was traveling upwards of 80mph, and had more than 2x the legal alcohol limit in the State of New York. I herniated 7 discs in my neck & back and shattered my nose & cheek bones that make up my sinus cavity. My GF was in a coma for nearly 2 months and has a laundry list of permanent problems. I have had horrific Migraines ever since. In Feb. 2010 I had yet another surgery to repair the internal areas of my nose/sinuses. Post op I had a full blown Migraine that lasted for 35 days.
I could go on & on but I think my point is in there, Without Oxycontin/oxycodone or other opiate medications I would have committed suicide long ago.
I feel for you & your sister, but to say that they should just take these drugs away from everyone is not only ridiculous, but to me it is offensive. It is people like your sister that made them change the formula, so people like me have to take strange plastics and other unknown chemicals into our bodies and not get quite as much relief as we once did.
I'm sorry for the long rant, but that sh@t just really P&^sses me off.
#EndRant
That's y they make places called drug rehab my Gma has had 5 back surgeries 4 in 4 an a half months an 18 surgeries all together so rehab is the only thing that will help people with drug addicions get over it if they want 2 stop its messed up that people that need it for chronic pain have suffer because of drug addicts learn not 2 get on ir if u dont need iit an oxycotin is synthetic heroin so if the resort to heroin better them on that then something they dont need an let the people that suffer from pain have what works best for them an let the drug addicts go through withdrawals for being stupid for getting themselves in that position people that r in pain didn't ask for what happened 2 them
hey...oxycontin is NOT in any form of heroin..at ALL. This must be something you heard or erronously read. To say oxycontin is synetic heroin is in error. Oxycontin is oxycodone time released. To say oxycontin is heroin is like saying percocet is heroin. We live in a time where ignorance prevail's and it's dangerous these day's to live in ignorance. The problem is that when a lie is spoken often ppl. tend to beleive the lie. I don't know where the lie about oxycontin being a form of heroin orginated but it is in error.
I believe that misinformation came from the nickname that the DEA gave to it in the South, "Hillbilly Heroin," and that probably stemmed from the fact that a lot of people were abusing it by shooting or snorting it. While it's nowhere near as potent as Heroin, it is a synthetic opiate and the effects can be similar.
if i have been on oxycondone 10/325 and oxycontin 60mg for three years and i am no longer getting any pain relief hoe should i go about talking about this to my pain management doctor ?
Indeed..but why single oxycontin out..i have read how if someone is going to abuse drug's..they will snort..shoot just about anything they think will make them high..not just oxycontin. i was reading how ppl. have snorted percocet's and vicodone. I am amazed over the unbalance and untruth's claimed about oxycontin when everyday american's die from tylenol..they suffer horrid death's from these ovc preparation's yet they are not pulled from the market nor do they get the bad rap oxycontin has.We live in an alice in wonderland society that has lost it reason!
Tell him your pain is breaking through, and that on a scale of 1 to 10, you are ___. Your body has gotten used to the amount you are taking. As time goes by, we require more medicine to do the same job. Your pain doc knows this.
As Chug was saying, our bodies develop a "tolerance" to this type of medicine and if it's been three years that you've been taking the same amount, I'm sure it's a lot less effective for relieving your pain. Your doctor should understand and increase either the dosage and/or the quantity.
Don't be scared to talk to him or her about it, it happens to anyone who has been taking opiates for a long time... believe me, I've been taking it almost 20 years and it takes almost 100 times the amount I originally took to relieve my pain now.
Also, you say you're taking Oxycodone 10/325, which means it's probably in the form of Percocet or some other mix. The 325 actually stands for the amount of Tylenol in each pill and taking too much of that is far more dangerous than the opiate.. The doctor may switch you to straight Oxycodone (probably a generic), which doesn't contain any Tylenol. It comes in 5mg, 15mg, and 30mg strengths, so it would be better for you to switch to the 15mg straight fast acting Oxy for breakthrough pain, plus increase the long acting Oxycontin to the 80mg strength.
Good luck and I hope the increased amounts help reduce your pain. I would recommend talking with your physician every two years or so to review the effectiveness of your current dosage... pretty typical for those of us really suffering.
This is so true. My sister-in-law dies from an accidental tylanol overdose. She was only 35 years old with a twelve year old son. She had hurt her hand and was taking vicodin apap. Then she got the flu and started taking Tylanol cold medicine. Shut her liver down. Very sad.
Chug, I'm so sorry to hear that, you and your family have my sympathies. I think there are far more people that lose their lives due to Tylenol overdoses than what we hear about... it is very dangerous and most people don't realize it, nor is it highly publicized. Doctors don't even warn people about it. Any one out there taking Percocet or Vicodan or any meds where oxy or hydrocodone are mixed with Tylenol, please be very careful... the Tylenol is far more deadly than the opiate.
Again, my condolences on your loss, very sad and preventable if more people knew about the dangers of this legal substance.
