Will Oxycontin Be Changed Back To Original Formula (Page 3) (Top voted first)
Updatedis Oxycontin going back to their old formula? OC instead of OP.
The new formula oxycotin suck!!!!! They take forever to work and even an 80 mg does not take my pain away I suffer in pain everyday because politicians don't believe in pain management if I remember correctly JFK got pain injections daily. I have Stage 3 Rhumetoid arth and cancer yet they change the only pain management I found so i sit in pain everyday and cry because of our politicians.
Mel if your in America, which I presume you are, as far as I know it's not going back to the old formula. Some of us on here are Australian and for a while we had are formulation change which caused a lot of us health problems. So sorry, no I think is the answer.....
20yrsofoxy....I think your on the wrong website. I believe most of us on here are in pain and need these tablets to help us cope with everyday life. I think after misusing your oxycontins for 20 years it's caused you to lose your trust in people probably because you can't be trusted. You seem to know a fair bit about administering them via other ways than prescribed. Therefore it's people like you that I'm pissed off at. It's people like you that caused me to be ill due to the reformulation of OxyContin so that it made it harder for you to commit suicide. Do us all a favor and stop putting your thoughts, that are wrong, on here, there's a lot of pages for junkies to talk shop....
Hi people, hope all are doing ok... I was told by my pharmacist the the heath department (im in Vic, dont know if its Australia wide or just here) are checking into how many people are using the Sandoz Oxycontin & why. They only get the Sandoz in for me at this chemist so she sent them a letter explaining why i dont use the OP. I hope this is to research the effects OP are having on people & realize the option of Sandoz is needed for those of us that had problems with OP formula. Interested to hear if other pharmacists have also been contacted about this. Cheers, take care everyone.
Thank you Jay. I am seeing someone. But I guess I would heal faster if I didn't keep hearing "just get over it".
The skin on my feet has started to darken plus it seems I have lost a lot of elasticity. Which is odd cos skin everywhere else is taut and terrific. I am getting pain that shoots from my foot to my back in 0 to 1s. I freeze n have to take a breath.
The pain specialist suggested trying to reduce meds so I have been trying but feeling worse for it. I am so tired of it all. My mother is great, she keeps telling me I have to stay alive? Otherwise who spend my inheritance. She is very cute n funny. My doctor suggested I try methadone. Since, I was on oxycontin. I was horrified, that will just pair me with the junkies. That's also why I am changing doctors. The chemist in surry hills are so rude. The dirty looks they give you. You know they are talking about it. It really annoys me. I hope one day they really get hurt and know what it feels like on the other side of the counter.
Sorry it if sounds like a rant but I know at least everyone here knows how I feel.
I personally have not taken Oxytocin however I have taken Opana I did not know they were changing it to plastic at the time and start getting real bad heartburn.. the only time I have ever had heat burn was when I was pregnant...and I was NOT pregnant.. I asked the Dr at the time if anything changed looking to rule out what was going on.. he didn't even tell me and told me must be my age!!! I was insulted so when I did my own research and found out what and why.. since I was young, nieve and NOT and addict I was infuriated I talked to nurse and found out about oxymorphone sadly at time Tennessee was trying not to carry it or lieing and never mentioned it also my insurance named it a generic at time which would have saved me 100's of dollars. When I finally found it 2 months later all heartburn was gone and potentially any other horrible side affect the plastic would have caused. Truly pothetic what true non addicted medically necessary patients have had to suffer through. First thing I pull up researching Mutiple Sclerosis is to stay away from stress at all cost! Thanks to this bs just to remain walking as long as possible I endure daily stress that I shouldn't have to endure!
I absolutely agree with the last guest's comment insofar as Purdue`s reasoning behind the reformulation of their original extended release Oxycontin! They were indeed going to lose their stronghold on that market so they had to come up with some stupid change in the formulation so they could keep their control on this market! It's all about how much money they were able to bribe the officials in order to maintain their market share and all very well calculated. To hell with those in pain!
Hi Jay, thanx for your support....yes i will be looking into this, im hoping this is an experiment which will fail in terms of lowering the overdoses....im sorry if this sounds calous & i mean no one harm, but legit pain patients like myself are being harmed because junkies have realised the generic is the old formula & are buying, stealing it (supposedly from people who are prescribed this) ive decided to try & ride it through for a few months, then see what the outcome is...... They've only stopped the people on higher doses from having the generic brand at this point. If it makes no difference to amount of overdoses by drug abusers, that gives me more ammunition when i start to fight this. Im going overseas for a month early next year & need to apply for permits etc for this, as going to Bali & Vietnam.... Want to be sure i have all the correct paperwork etc. dont need to get to customs & have any issues....so im not going to start fighting this until my return....if it gets nasty, they could hold up my paperwork or anything.... & it gives me a feeling there's something personal going on with the head of pbs. Those who abuse this drug, make it so much harder for those of us who need a medication such as oxycontin just to be able to move in the morning & get out of bed..... will keep you posted people, as far as i know this is a state thing, so those not in vic should be fine.
The 120 mg limit is only affecting Medicaid right now in all states.. however my Dr. Told me if not fought now they will move it to medicare and on up... however if it gets to medicare the insurance people paid for out of their paycheck all their lives that thsee politicians keep calling a entitlement!!! That will not go over well.. it's not affecting enough right now and untill it does they don't seem to care..if we are bedridden we might not go vote....
Soldier of One, overdoses are all ready higher than ever before because of the government getting big pharma to weaken all analgesics. Now addicts are taking huge doses and dying because their not getting a buzz on a couple of pills, but with that said chronic pain patients aren't getting an acceptable level of analgesia either because of watered down analgesics. We all know to well when the government gets involved in anything they make it worse and the innocent always suffer the most, but don't worry the government already has a bunch of one sided flawed studies they paid for with our money to get the results they wanted so they can tout a bunch of lies only an imbecile would buy into... I guess this is more Odumbo policy to make us ashamed to be Americans, it's actually working on me. As I'm ashamed to live in a country who puts the lives of drug addicts above legitimately suffering human beings. Don't forget this is the same imbecile who made Al Sharpton the head of race relations in America, next drug addicts will run all the pharmacies in the new Odumbo world order... I hear you on how our government is helping terrorists sell more street drugs and fund their cause, but if they were Christian terrorists selling drugs Odumbo would wipe them out!
Zaborav, the new formula of OC is also in Aus, although we also have a generic that's the old formula. It's totally illegal to purchase a narcotic from another country & import for your use.....you would be done for drug trafficking. Besides that, you need a prescription to buy it & no pharmacy will take another countries scripts! For someone who thinks they know alot, that's some pretty dumb advice....
I have had similar and read many same issues.. I was allergic to the fillers in the oxycontin pills and was put on opana.. not only is Opana at least for me not in the least 3x's stronger than oxycontin.. it's difficult to get at pharmacies and the major hospital in my town doesn't even have it in stock!!! I get so much crap from my family doctor about my meds and they've cut me down so far not only can I barely function but my quality of life is making me barely care, and I can't do that because I have a young child... I'd love to see this issue resolved, and recently asked a pharmacist if there is going to be a change, and supposingly it's coming in the next year or so because of so many people having adverse reactions to the "new oxycontin er" however.. in the meantime I'm screwed. My body is very sensitive to medications and not everyone has the same body chemistry.. another thing doctor's are getting less concerned about. I think it's come down to a huge hypocrisy of the Hippocratic oath.. Do no Harm.. which they are doing in mass to patients.., more cover thy own ass.
Soldier Of One--- i agree with much of what u wrote..im also a suboxone patient. but i feel like an addict still, as i am dependent on it, and when i withdrawal from it my first thoughts are to go find opiates. i had tried marijuana in my teenage years, and i never really liked it, rarely ever smoked it. I experimented with other drugs, but one day I was offered an Oxycontin, 80mg pill. I had tried 20's in high school. I took half it, and it was like nothing i had ever experienced. Wasn't long before i was hooked. Years later they changed the formula and oc disappeared. People are going to abuse drugs as long as they are available...the oc was changed...and all it did was increase the use of illicit drugs. All the law MAKERS AND Pharm companies did by changing the ORIGINAL OC was turn all of their oc junkies into other junkies, and they then caused pain and anguish in all of their legitimate pain patients. Changing the formula was an idiotic idea. It hurt the people who it was meant for, and all the addicts just switched to a cheaper easier to get, and more dangerous drug. A drug provided by cartels. I watched my best friend die because of an infection that he would have never gotten if he was still just taking oxy's, rather than a drug mixed with God knows what. Also, to any pain patients that may read this, i apologize for having been a part of the problem, helped pain patients get oxys in the past, and have seen how disabling pain can be. I have been on nothing but suboxone for about 3 years now, but i fear going off of it.
Michelle, I live in the U.S. Just got my new script for generic oxycontin. It has all the abuse deterrant & fillers as the OP, just a cheaper made version. I asked the pharmacist if any generics are available in the U.S. that are comparable to the original OC formula. He said "No. All generics sold in the U.S. must be produced to be comparable to the OP formula." And there is our answer. They are never bringing the original back & we who have to take it are stuck with an inferior product with all sorts of side effects that we did not have with the OC formula.
The Sandoz generic for Oxycontin is made by Perdue Pharmaceutical here in America. I talked to Sandoz when it first came out and they told me that Perdue was making it for them and it is the exact same formula as the OP version. What they have in Australia is a generic made by Sandoz which is nothing like the Purdue made generic version here in America. The Australian government stood up for their suffering citizens and didn't let this junk OP version that has bad side effects and only lasts 6 to 8 hours to continue to be used and allowed the real Sandoz generic to be sold, but the 60mg and 30mg doses are still under patent and as far as I know only the original doses are available for generic. I heard that Purdue is currently evaluating new versions of tamper resistant Oxycontin, but it is still at least 2+ years or so before we will see it in a pharmacy. They'll more than likely package it with Naltrexone which is an opioid antagonist. I also heard the trials so far have had a very high drop out rate because it didn't work very well, so they'll have to redo the formulation and try again. I'm sure we'll see many versions of tamper resistant Oxycontin styled medications so they can keep a strangle hold on the patent. They don't care about us or how well it actually works for chronic pain patients! They just care about keeping a strangle hold on the patent keeping market share all to themselves. Now tamper resistant and abuse deterrent are words they'll be using to create new pills for generations of patients to come and we're the victims of drug abusers and a government completely out of control who thinks drug addicts are more important than suffering human beings.
It's sad to know the innocent patients who do everything correctly will be punished because of a low percentage of people who only care about themselves and could care less what their actions have caused to happen to suffering human beings.
I think this nightmare is here to stay because they can't stop drug abuse, so now their going after the legitimate patients. We're just the victims of the failed war on drugs! Whose next? Street drug abuse is fixing to be an epic nightmare caused solely by our government and we've all seen this epic failure already... My prayers go out to those who are suffering and will continue to suffer until medical choices and decision are ripped from the hands of the government and placed back into the hands of the competent medical doctors with sensible monitoring programs in place instead of the gestapo like tactics being used now...
Oxycontin, created by Purdue, owned by a family of the American Oligarchy, was purposely created to addict and to administer intravenously. It was no different than the conversion of opium to illicit drugs. They disregarded their silicone base for ER, like they used in their morphine ER, and used a separable wax base for intravenous use. The drug stopped pain no more than morphine but due to its chemical arrangement it caused the brain to produce large amounts of dopamine causing euphoria and addiction - taking the purpose out of and destroying millions of lives. Our government allowed this to happen and many were paid on way or another. What they are doing now, after a decade, is adding naloxone to their pills which will cause horrible and instant withdraw in those who try to use it as it was truly intended by Purdue. Illicit drugs will take its place. This is an evil country controlled by psychopaths and ran by psychopaths and sociopaths.
Changing the formula made several messes that were unintended most likely but should have been caught but since most people seen what was coming I'll elaborate.
1. When a pain patient is in distress the IR is very important and there are folks that need this kind of instant pain relief.
2. People will always abuse medications or drugs but by changing the formula on folks like me & others on this site is wrong. To make them unable to abuse these medications the govt made purdue use known carcinogens. How nice when you need this medication to get through the day.
3. The death rate is now higher than ever due to the changing of the formula and the drug dealers are making a killing from the Taliban to the cartels, very pure opiates are pouring into the country to fill the void created by the changing of oxycodone.
4. So it comes down to the lesser of two evils for those that will abuse these medications they can just go get the cheaper stronger illicit drugs but those of us that take our meds as prescribed and in moderation we don't have that option.
5. Since the folks that abuse oxycodone knew the dose they were getting it was safer than the 50% increase in overdoses created by very pure opiates so there you have it.
6. Strange how people in power see percentages: .03% is a huge number if it fits a political narrative but 5% can be small when it doesn't fit the narrative.
7. If you think changing the formula on oxycodone stopped or slowed opiate abuse down you are very ignorant on the subject so do a little research and see the bigger problem that's going to affect everyone with crime rising, terrorists having more money, cartels get more powerful, more opiate death, higher healthcare costs etc..
8. This doesn't even take into consideration the pain & suffering those of us that get some quality of life from these meds but I'm sure the liberals care so very much about the small % of us that have chronic pain right? nah we don't fit into any political narrative so we're of no use to those in power.
9. There are good doctors like mine that prescribe oxycodone only to those in real bad condition with walkers, wheelchairs, we're talking about folks that have a hard time getting out of bed in the morning due to the damage to our bodies. The bad doctors hurt all patients & they hurt doctors like mine that prescribe in moderation only to people with severe damage & proof of that damage while the government harasses good doctors like mine it's sad.
Hi Bobby & Sandie, im in vic.....a few months back my doctor showed me a letter from the health department wanting all patients on high dose oxycontin to be changed back to tamper resistant new formula. My doctor sorted it out for me & im on the original formula still, thankfully.....but the head of health department has a bug up his arse about this & the purpose of putting high dosage patients onto op is a trial to see if it makes a difference in overdose numbers. He believes the number went down when nee formula came in, but when sandoz released generic the numbers went up. I feel there's something personal going on, & the real patients who need this medication are not the important issue.....rather the junkies that abuse it. At this point ive heard nothing more about it, & this was only a vic thing. I can tell you this though if they decide to force all to change to op formula....i wont be sitting back, ill be fighting for us to have a choice......its not right to treat people in genuine pain the way they do in America.
Michelle, sorry I had no idea that the OxyGarbage had been introduced in Australia. You learn something new every day. I did see a documentary uploaded to YouTube which showed the levels of concern there regarding the abuse of Oxycodone in particular - graphs showed the relative amount of prescriptions for m/r analgesics and Oxycodone Rx has gone up at much the rate morphine has declined. I believe that there is a huge abuse problem in the cities. (I can't really understand that, since any 'euphoric' feelings disappeared about ONE WEEK into my OC treatment which began in about 1998. All I can say is that it is a superior analgesic to morphine sulphate and does not make me feel anywhere close to the drowsy feeling morphine always gave me, and neither does it make me nauseous which was always a problem when I was prescribed MST Continus. (Had to take a couple of Valoid - cyclizine, antiemetic antihistamine - almost every day when prescribed those.)
And if you live in Europe, you most certainly CAN get, say, a UK prescription dispensed in Netherlands, Belgium, Romania, any other EU country in fact. Two or three of those demand that the Rx is copied by a domestic doctor before it can be dispensed but yes, it is perfectly legal to be dispensed medications across borders within the European Union. I have read several posts from Americans who obtain their real OC pills from both UK and Romania; I have no idea how that works but they seem to be able to get them. I have also read of people who have had personal quantities of meds opened by US Customs and permitted to carry on their way to the delivery address without even the 'Love Letter' they normally get if they are found with packages of such things. Strange stuff happens.
I have been getting dextromoramide from both Ireland (withdrawn there recently) & Netherlands now for over 8 years ON UK PRESCRIPTIONS, so I know it can be done. Same goes for Halcion 0.25mg, Rohypnol 1mg/Hypnocalm 2mg and Lexilium 6 & 12mg - which are exceedingly inexpensive - (triazolam and flunitrazepam have been off UK pharmacy shelves now for 8 years or so after a long period of being available with private prescriptions (no NHS) but bromazepam has not been seen here since the early 1990s).
You are all so lucky that your country cares about your pain at least for now . I live in the so called great USA ,our doctors even the palliative care I go to act like I am crazy and they do not know what I am talking about when I said that when oxycontin was changed was the last day I had any pain relief or that I felt like a real person. The changed oxycontin makes me tired ,gives me stomach aches, all with very little pain relief .At 39 ,I started falling ,dropping things and painful just to get out of bed, I was diagnosed with severe neuropathy, fibromyalgia, myclonic jerks, and a hereditary disease called hemochromatosis and told I wouldn't live more than a year without a transplant .My cousin was in a coma and a donor ,so my aunt wanted me to have her liver,so I did ,but it rejected after 8 months ,got a second one and spent about a year in the hospital but twelve years later I still have it but my kidneys failed four years ago which I knew would happen .I only wish I had known years ago that I was going to be forced into living with this pain when our country forced pharmaceuticals to change oxycontin I would have never had a transplant. At least I got to refuse a kidney transplant, and my doctors still do not get how bad the pain is.The past year I have been on five different pain meds with no pain relief. The only good thing that happened is that I have the choice of stopping dialysis and ending my life .I promised my family that I would give it my best try with palliative pain specialists and I am pretty much there. I wonder which category the FDA would put me in ,not drug abuse, maybe refused dialysis and refused transplant because I no longer want to live in pain every day of my life. I think it's great they care about addicts, but what about the millions of people who have chronic pain.they will probably keep telling people the change in the medication should help in the same way and when it worked great for six years and all in one month that it changed I built up a tolerance . That's ridiculous to anyone!! I hope this letter may find it to other countries and listen to people who are suffering . I wish I lived in one of those countries ,not The USA !!!!! Sorry for being so long but I hope it can be helpful . Thanks,
O. Suffering in the USA Carol

Hi Michelle, thank God you are on the Sandoz. I was really worried when I read your original post saying you had been taken off it, I so appreciate your post explaining your managed to remain on it. I get so stressed worrying about it being taken from us, I just wrote to Sandoz directly to see if I can get information to hopefully alleviate my worry. If they reply to me with relevant information, I will post what they tell me. I really want to be able to 'breath' and know I can stay on it indefinitely with no fear of being returned to the awful reformulation. I just cannot go through that again, I had to take antihistamines twice a day just to stop the constant itching, not to mention all the rest of it...Also,why target the people on high doses only? We are the ones in the most pain! That is just sadistic. I do hope Sandoz reply to me with positive news for us all. Those poor people in pain in the US, my heart goes out to them. Hope you are doing well Michelle. Cheers!
