I am on a suboxone treatment program and currently interviewing for several new jobs. I will have to take a pre-employment drug test and I am wondering if I will fail for an opiate due to the suboxone. I do not want to tell my future employer that I am in treatment for a past drug dependency and I am worried that the suboxone will make that impossible.

I have a script to percocet and i want to getoff them so i have a friend who takes subs and he gave me half a strip to try..i took a quarter strip one time.Will it show up on a 12 panel employee screen? Prime example of y not to take anyones script..learned my lesson..so I will be ok on the screen?

Wow you have set me at ease, well slightly. Everything I read has been back and forth, it will it won't, and so on. Like you I have been worried sick over this because it is for a great career. I was passed up before because of Norco, even though I had a script, and since then I have been on subs. As I was weening off of them, this opportunity came up. I dont want to lose out because I'm doing the right thing. I'm sure you can appreciate that. Thanks for your post and any other info you may have that may be useful, could you share it.

I keep getting mixed reviews on buprenorphine screening and I live in a state where an employers dont play games when it comes to urinalysis'. I read what you wrote and I'm wondering if a lab screening will show buprenorphine. I get urine test twice a week and my counselor never tells me suboxone levels or results. I guess I'm asking if a special test other than a pre-employment screening is required to detect buprenorphine? I think honesty is the best policy but a new employer will not see it that way. I will be a dirty addict to them if I tell them, and I liar if I fail the test. Thank you.

I'm here to tell you that the 7-panel screen I took (that I purchased from Walgreens) DID show positive for Opiates! And Suboxone is the only opiates I've taken in 5 years. So basically the moral to the story is "depends on what test is administered". Don't give anyone a false sense of hope that just because you passed that everyone in every situation will! Go to Walgreens or CVS, pick up the over-the-counter, 7-panel test for $20 and see for yourself.

Okay u took one.for a headache. That's a horrible excuse. Sorry I'm in re overt and clean and that just sounds like an excuse. But never the less I.am wondering if it shows up.because I think my boyfriend is.hiding it from me. Like I look for pupils and all that try to eat h the behavior. I always thought he was high on it cuz he would.explode with anger. Yet they did poss him off for stupid reasons so I think it's excusable I'm just curious if I'm going to waste my money on a twelve panel home test?

I know how serious the oil field jobs are about drug use, and it makes sense because you could risk peoples lives if you are high on the job. But as many know with subs, it normalizes a person that has been on them for a period of time and reduces cravings( I know that's a a subject for debate, but I don't feel high off subs, just normalized) after getting off their DOC. My question is: how extensive do most of these oil companies test, is it 12,14, 20 panel? I know that 14 and above will test for subs and I have heard that sub testing is becoming more common, however there are still many companies who do not test for it because it requires a specific test and it's expensive. Also just an FYI, I took a 12 panel home drug test one time and came up false/positive for oxycodone while on high dose of sub and I had not used oxy in over 2 years. I took the same 12 panel for a job and passed, because I'm pretty sure once the sample is sent to the lab they can determine that you don't have oxy in your system. But just as a warning subs can cause false/positive for oxy, so don't be alarmed. But if anyone has any input about the oil an gas drug screening it would be much appreciated.
Also I did find out for a fact that the company I am applying with does a urine test, while a lot of the oil and gas companies do hair follicle test these days. Thanks

If youre going to talk crap on ppl at least sound like you know what youre talking about. people use the word opiate as a general term for all opiates and opioids. your post was less than pointless. grow up.

Suboxen is a opiate it will show up as that. The reason people question this is because of the fact it is a different type of opiate then others. You can flush it out of your system in 2-3 days by stopping taking it and drink bathtubs full of water

Yes it does show up as an opiate. I took a 7 panel drug screen that I purchased at walgreens to test for xanax and am on suboxone and it did show up as an opiate. I think the confusion lies in the fact that when people state u have to specifically test for suboxone for it to show up what that means is that it won't show up as suboxone but will show up as a general opiate unless specifically testing for suboxone.

Nikki - a panel 5 zero gravity urine test is so accurate it can tell you what day of the month you did subs, oxy, benzos, or THC. I know my doctor nailed me and I felt like an idiot because I told him I was clean. recovering one day at a time

You are correct, the Suboxone will show up as an opiate. You will have to inform them that you are on it, under a doctor's care or risk losing your job due to a failed drug test.
You may not have to tell your employer, though, first you should tell the people who are running the test. They may ask for proof that you are legitimately on it, but in most cases they do not actually report what you are on to the potential employer.
