Why Is It So Hard To Get Diastat (diazepam) Prescribed?

Updated

So many patients continuously search in vain for Diastat brand of Diazepam. I am on the brink of despair. It appears my general practitioner will only prescribe the lowest possible dose that you have to fight for every two weeks. With my untreated mental health issues and diminishing joy, it often feels like giving up is the only option left.

Diazepam is a benzodiazepine that is most commonly used to treat anxiety, and for its sedative like effects.

As to why it's so hard to get, that's most likely because it carries the risk of being habit forming, and is frequently abused, stolen, sold, and etc.

The FDA lists the other side effects of Diastat as possibly including nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, appetite loss, irritability, and mood changes.

What else have you tried to treat your mental health issues? Most doctors would prefer you try other medications, and therapies, that aren't habit forming.

in usa Diazepam has been largely replaced with Clonazepam (Klonopin).

the drug Clonazepam is much easier to prescribe as a doctor, as the doses usually remain the same. the major problem with the benzos seems to have started with the xanax XR.

It gets me so mad when Insurance companies and doctors keep saying they can’t prescribe because of side effects! I know for me it’s been over 10 years since they stopped and have been prescribing all the drugs that are really nothing more then synthetic rat poison. I have had the worst side effects from new medication. Luckily I lived through the new synthetic medication but only because I know to pay attention to my symptoms and stop despite what the pharmacy says and Drs. Look it up. Diazepam (Diastat) has the least side effects.
