Why Is Actifed Banned (Page 2) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI'm looking for the old formulation of Actifed.
Are there any countries that still sell it?
I know you can use it to make drugs, but it's the only thing that works for me (and it helps me sleep too).
I would not have ANY problem having the FBI at my house if I could get some. They'd be sitting on my shelf just exactly like my 16 bottles of shampoo, 42 bars of soap and 18 boxes of bandaids (I'm not a hoarder, I just hate running out of stuff...and stupidly, before that stuff went away, I didn't buy a ton of it).
The stuff they sell behind the counter is a reformulation....it's different.
Walgreens seems to have stopped stocking their Wal-Act, at least in my area (sw Mich) and no one seems to know if it's discontinued or what. Any answers from anyone?
I just bought a wal-act in a Walgreen in California. They only sell it one box at a time with ID. With a DR. prescription you can get more at one time.
You can find it in UK as I get it for cold and coughs. You may be able to get it from a web-based pharmacy if they will send to you. Good luck.
I found it at express chemist in the U.K. but they could not send it to the U.S.
Aprodine has Pseudoephedrine Hcl and Tripolidine Hcl, but the inactive ingredients are not exactly the same. Can be a problem for some.
I'm totally willing to send money to those that can get these and ship it to me lol! Actifed and Wal-act used to help my asthma and allergies so well and I'm terribly sad that I cannot find them here in my area of Florida
Well after googeling & reading your comments for 2 hours this morning as a fellow stuffy nose suffer, I found my local Hannaford (formally Stop & Shop) carries the Aprodine product, and it has the same ingredients as the OLD Actifed that actually worked. Here is the best part, it was ONLY $1.54 per 24/Cnt Box!!! That is nuts! I would have bought a case of it at that price but the crack heads have made that impossible.I'm waiting for the junk I took this morning to wear off before I try this, but expect the same relieving results that Actifed always gave me.
Just bought Wal-Act today at Walgreens. It is the exact same formulation as original Actifed. It is behind the counter and needs to be signed for.
Walgreens brand called Wal act. Is the closest. They keep it behind counter and you have to sign for it but it's no big deal. 8 bucks. Still works the best
This is the accurate answer. I am a pharmacist. Also, because it has pseudoephedrine it is now something you must ask the pharmacist for and sign using your driver license. It is tough to find, but can also be special ordered and is usually very inexpensive.
Hi..I read this thread hoping to find the exact ingredients of Actifed...All I found is what I already know..The original formula for Actifed contained pseudoephedrine hydrochloride 60mg as the nasal decongestant and triprolidine hydrochloride 2.5mg as the antihistamine. There must be something else!! I went to my pharmacist and he found me something that had exactly those two ingredients. I was so happy, came home and guess what - it did not work!!
Do you ever get the feeling like you got water in your nose and it hurts on the roof of your mouth? Actifed would dry that up right away and let you get a good sleep. This formula did not do that and I tossed and turned with no relief. If any of you have the old actifed boxes can you please send me the 'exact ingredients' besides the pseudoephedrine hydrochloride and triprolidine hydrochloride - there must be something else they added in addition to this!! The above ingredients alone did not deliver the actifed results I have been accustomed to over the years.
No you aren't telling me anything I don't already know. And I don't understand the link you provided to Walgreen's online store? It only takes you to a webpage that says this product is no longer available ... So what is the link for?
My kid brought home Actifed-Compresse from Italy and I recently used it. I forgot how great this stuff is for stuffiness. Now I just have to find someone in Italy that will send it to me!
Try pharmacyfirst or pharmacy2u in the UK, I am sure some will send overseas, let me know if you have any luck.
Nigeria
I found 48 tablet Wal-Act in San Carlos, CA today for $9.48. Each tab is 60 mg Psuedophedrine HCl + 2.5 mg Triprolidine. Needed to show photo ID and sign some form.
For more info, see: Actifed Details. Apparently, the original ingredients are also available in Genac and Aprodine, if you can find them.
My ENT doctor orders them for me. If you have a doctor who can help you... majorpharmaceuticals.com has them, but does not sell to the public. Major sells them as Aprodine in 100 tablet bottles. Good luck!
Walgreens sells it under the name Wal ACt
Walgreen's doesn't sell it any longer. I've been on a 3 week quest and all I can get from all of the pharmacists is to try combinations of other products to achieve the same results. None of the pharmacists, store managers, or corporate headquarters has an answer. The best they come up with is that if the sales weren't high enough they must have discontinued it. It seems ludicrous to me that a decision would be made to discontinue an item that has been carried on their shelves for years and no message was sent out to the stores as to why? Very poor customer service.
