Who Can I Write To? Who Is Changing All The Laws On Pain Meds?

Hi I'm netty, I've been on pain meds for over 10 yrs..I have many different problems. Let's start from the top..shoulder has Cisis and spur, have gotten # of inj's. in it..i have a bad hip, almost bone on bone, (will need a new hip), I have 4 bad discs in my back, both my knees kill me, my (L) is worse.. I've had surgery on it twice, still have pain, plus kills me to be on my feet for more then 3-4 hours..if i do im in so much pain..i have arthritis and I have fiber (not sure how to spell the rest)...I've had an inj. in my back and knees, but still in pain....I'M REALLY PISSED OFF THAT THESES PEOPLE CAN SIT AROUND A TABLE AND TALK ABOUT HOW THE STREETS AND PEOPLE AND KIDS ARE GETTING TO MUCH PAIN MEDS. OK I UNDERSTAND PEOPLE AND KIDS ARE DYING..YES SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE..BUT I THINK THE DOCTORS NEED TO DO MORE EVALUATIONS TO PROVE THERE IS A PROBLEM, PLUS CHECK THERE U/A...CAUSE IT'S NOT fair for the ones who really do need these pain meds to get through a day..I know if I didn't have mine I'd be in bed everyday..there has to be a happy medium ..so us who really need them can get them ..plus I think it's wrong that my doctor can be told what he can and can not give me. My doctor knows me as well as my mom does..these people sitting back changing the law and drugs don't live with my pain or know my pain like I do or my doctor does...honesty I think people will go to the streets more if their doctors can't help them..I don't like being treated like a druggie because I have problems and pain...I didn't ask for all theses health problems..u think I like being in pain everyday and not to be able to live a ill life...come on ....does anyone know the address and who to write to that are making all theses changes...I think we all should write a letter..cause something has to give for us who need pain meds..I'm going to be on them the rest of my life...very much in pain that it's affected my relationship.

Hello, Netty! How are you doing? I'm sorry that you're in so much pain.

The biggest changes have actually been made by the DEA. They aren't laws, so to speak, just directives/guidelines to try to get better control of the drug supply, in order to prevent theft and diversion, and to try to stop improper prescribing and over prescribing.

But given that they are asking more questions and scrutinizing prescribing practices much more closely, many doctors are reluctant to prescribe, or refuse to prescribe outside of the directed boundaries.

There are exceptions in place for people that have intractable pain due to a possibly fatal condition, such as stage 4 cancer, though.

However, I am not sure if letter writing or calling will help.

Does anyone else have any ideas?
