Which Is Stronger 15mg Ms Contin Or 15mg Oxycodone (Page 6)
UpdatedI wonder what the difference is between 15MG MS Contin vs 15 Mg Oxycodone. Is there a substitute for MS Morphine..I take 2 30mg MS Contin twice a day and also with that I take 15MG MS Contin twice per day..which of course is 45mgs at a time..with 3 15mg Oxcodone for breakthru pain. I was taking 20 mg Oxycontin 3 times a day etc. But my insurance wasn't paying for the oxy. So what I take now is paid for. Do any of you have any suggestions of what would work better for the pain..since I changed to morphine it doesn't seem to do the trick..this is long..but any answers would be very appriciated..Thanks..
Good news..so far...I am a long time poster here after a failed Fusion in 2009. Last week I had a trial unit Implanted Tens installed (Boston Scientific) and so far I am seeing impressive results. I have been on 20mg OxyContin ever 8 with 5mg Oxycodone in between for years...and I am already certain I can start cutting that back very soon ! If one is of the type that can live with a Tens, it is a very healthy switch move for sure. Quite pricey, but covered by most insurance. Next week they remove the unit..then after a few days implant the controller under the skin, and I use a remote to adjust it at my discretion.
I have been handicapped since I was 40 and I am 53 now. I had back surgery in 2001 and had my right hip replaced in 2007. I live in excruciating pain every day and I am not going to get any better. I can't believe how very difficult it is to get a pain medicine that works because it is a narcotic. If there is nothing that can help you get a little bit of relief what does it matter if you get addicted. I have been on morphine for pain at least 8 years and doctors are afraid to give you anything stronger. What are they afraid of?
Sorry about your cronic pain. Been there myself. What you really NEED is a NEW DR. if you continue on this path you better start planning your funeral. I dont know where you live and what access you have to good Dr's but you need to find a new Dr. And get the problem fixed.
The pharmacy CVS carries the med. But only the free standing pharmacy. Not the little ones inside of other stores.
Sort of a similar history in reverse. I had a hip done in 07, ended up with new leg longer than the other and instantly had back pain. Hip Doc blamed my back, others blamed hip...nobody accepts any blame. Anyway as my posts say, I had fusion in 09. Did jot work. Been on oxycontin since then... in June of this year I had a TENS unit implanted. They could not get the leads in the right place, so the stimulation cannot go below my upper chest..useless sadly. Not Docs fault, he is great....I had high hopes. So...now using an OTC TENS unit and have managed to resist higher doses of meds for three years now but is a tough road at times. It is a never ending slope so be very careful about increasing doses....
I got one for you guys. I have degenerate disk, osteoarthritis from sI (tailbone)-L4 and bursitis in my left hip. My pain is mid lower back shooting to the left side going down my rear and off and on down my left leg. I had a the nerves cut and burned year and half ago and it helped manage my pain with hydrocodone. This past summer I could tell the nerves had grown back. My PM Dr said he's getting out of "long term pain care" after being treated for 2 years and referred me to another dr. So this new Dr wants to do the same procedure. My plan was to get pain where I can bare it so I can do some physical therapy to at least get my core stronger to help with my back. However my hip Dr said exercise is bad with bursitis. So as a mother of 4 I have no choice but to keep moving so I went with having the nerves cut and burned again and figured oh well I'll just have this done every year. Well this time it didn't work. Maybe since it's a different Dr. My pain is horrible and now vs tingling in just my hamstring it's down to my smaller toes and they get straight up numb and don't get me started on the spasms and all the falling I've done since then. My follow up was only a week later. I told him I wasn't feeling any better yet. 4 weeks later I had another follow up and confused I told my Dr I don't feel any better, maybe worse. So he says the same thing as the Dr who referred me, he's getting out of "long term" pain care. He said he was going to refer me yet he didn't and I got busy planning my kids father's funeral and holidays. So on my next visit I told him all that happened. He did not act sympathetic at all. He only told me btw if you keep seeing me, I'm going to wing you off your pain meds starting today. I asked if that is protocol, he fails on a back procedure and vs fixing it knowing he did nerve damage making it worse, he's going to take me off pain meds too?
Seems harsh and to me he just wanted the thousands for the surgery and oh well for me he messed me up worse. What these so called doctors don't get is that those of us with high blood pressure, our pain level is what's going to kill us. I'm sure 180/110 is not healthy. And I don't drink so there is no knocking off the edge any other way. Yes aleve, advil work great. But they take so long to work and I have chipped 2 teeth biting down in pain. Everything was fine until couple years ago and all these dope heads started trying to feel high. I get the stopping letting people use multiple Dr and pharmacy, that's what was killing the addicts, not the doctors. I have read so many people's statements on different sites, these doctors are running scared. My 1st Dr was great. He cared and honestly I got chocked up I was losing him as a dr. I can't say for that Dr. These others are not trying to help, only make that money off of procedures/surgeries that çan make you worse and then cut you off your meds. After telling you that you have to use a cane the rest of your life at the age of 39 and issue you a handicap plaque how are they just going to stop treating you after the first thing they try on you? These chats are good for info and knowing your not alone but what are we going to do to take a stand. The dopers are still going to get theirs somehow but what about us truly in pain? Is there any kind of group out there fighting for us?
They manufacture 5mg 10 mg 15 mg20mg and 30mg of oxycodone immediate release. The 625 is Tylenol which is horrible for your live.
The ocy is 1.5 times stronger then the morphine that's what the pharmacist told me
I agree, MS contin 15mg is not as effective as the 10mg norco that I take. It seems to be an insurance issue.
Find a new doctor. There are still plenty of doctors that don't discriminate against narcotic users. Just make sure you truly understand the consequences of the dugs and what it is like to withdrawal
Thank you. There are many corrections & improvements that need to be made in healthcare. Pain control methods & laws are currenty written for the benefit of insurance, pharmaceutical corps, medical industry, judicial/law enforcement budgets & for political effect. A crisis is at hand as people live longer with more chronic pain problems. New diseases like the tick born one I am afflected with cause severe nerve & brain damage & leave people in horrid pain. Cannabis & natural psychoactives could help many with pain, PTSD, death anxiety of terminal patients, etc. The ONLY people who can make these things happen are legislators & the people that vote for them. Unfortunately there are too many who dont care about these things until it happens to them.
Way too many doctors are not reliable on this subject, especially pain specialists. In addition mant states laws make it difficult to impossible to change doctors for pain control or prescription problems.
Get away from the tylenol as much as possible it will destroy your liver. The ibuprofen can be dangerous to your colon & kidneys. The opiates have problems too but are actually safer IF used properly.
Perocets ARE Oxycodone, both contain Tylenol. Why are so many people so confused about this?
Since Ms Contin is a timed-release product and the Oxycodone is an immediate release product, you will see a difference in the analgesia between the two. I have taken both for nearly 12 years, until last week, three times a day. Thus, your Oxycodone will be much shorter-acting. The Oxycodone is, IMHO, necessary to cover those first two hours of the MS Contin's building up in the body to full analgesia. And yes, your body DOES get addicted, even if you dont have an addictive personality. Furthermore, according to my pain clinic doctor, these drugs also actually increase your sensitivity to pain, in effect eventually causing more pain. Consider investigating Mytragena Speciosa, aka Kratom, if its legal in your state or country. Its a leaf from a tree, with the similar action as a narcotic, but it does not seem as addictive, and does not seem to cause a 'high' or over-tiredness. I felt it worked great, indeed helped me withdraw from the narcotics- many people use it for the same... this all happened after my pain clinic went bankrupt, in a period of about a week it closed down, and left many of us in the air with nobody to prescribe our pain meds for us. Unfortunately, I am blessed with many allergies, and became allergic to kratom too. But it may work for you. DONT try it for a high- it'll make you feel yucky if you take too much.
Thank you for this post. I appear to be as healthy as a horse but I'm not at all. The doctor that I'm see for pain is not convinced of my complaints. It's truly hard for me I fill like I'm dying a slow painful death.
U don't need more you need to deal. Your on alot and on good meds if your still in pain then something's wrong
Methadone is amazing. I am on three 8 mg suboxone and my doc is such a ****, he won't even give me subutex which is stronger, but 3 subutex 8 mg a day keeps me happy and I've never met anyone with my tolerance. I prefer methadone.
Quit I'm in sooo much pain it's unreal lost left arm 8 broken bones in back several in neck broke femur in 4 places crushed knee with plates and screws. And more......just deal with the pain let your body heal itself....taken pain pills just gets u to take more and more.
