What time of day is best for taking this medication?

Amlodipine is an effective treatment of hypertension in once-daily doses of 2.5-10 mg while benazepril is effective in doses of 10-80 mg. In clinical trials of amlodipine/benazepril combination therapy using amlodipine doses of 2.5-10 mg and benazepril doses of 10-40 mg, the antihypertensive effects increased with increasing dose of amlodipine in all patient groups, and the effects increased with increasing dose of benazepril in nonblack groups.

Hi Sharon,

The manufacturer guidelines vaguely state that you should only take one dose of Lotrel a day; but does not give specific time frames. That said, I can only speculate that timing is solely up to you (the patient).

Additional dosing indications note the following:
-Take each dose with a full glass of water.
-Amlodipine and benazepril can be taken with or without food.
-If you are being treated for high blood pressure, keep using this medication even if you feel fine. High blood pressure often has no symptoms.
-Take this medication exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take the medication in larger amounts, or take it for longer than recommended by your doctor. Follow the directions on your prescription label.

Personally, I would just go off of how you feel on a weekly basis after taking it at different times of the day and making minute changes every week to see if you notice a difference in its efficacy.
