My husband and I are both on Metformin but he takes the Er 500 and I take the Hcl Er 500? He still works and exercises but I'm retired on disability and unable to exercise much because of post polio problems. Does that make a difference in what we take? We do not have the same doctors.

There is no difference, they are both the exact same thing. The HCL just designates it as a hydrochloride salt and in one instance it was included in the wording, in the other it was left off.
This is an oral antidiabetic agent.
Common side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, headache and low blood sugar.

I am currently taking Metformin HCL TABs, 500mg 2xday. I am type 2 diabetic. My hair has been getting thinner & thinner and it is falling out. I can't even cook a meal without covering up my hair. My question is: can this medication cause hair loss?

I have been precribed Metformin er 500 mg 24 hr Tab Ctrl Rel, by my pain management dr. 1 tab 2 times a day. I do not have diabetes or any kind. I do have chronic hep.C, Geno Type 1, with moderant / sevear Cirrhosis of the liver. I have also been hositipalized on 2 different times for Hepatic Encephalophthy. I have 11 lap bands in my throat.When I take this medicine, I feel weak, run down, like I'm going to throw-up all the time. I get dizzy and light headed and always running into walls, and I've been told I look jundice. I feel fine when I do't take it. My PAIN Management Dr insist that it is helping to repair my liver as a "B" back up until I can get a transplant. My question is if it is helping why do I feel so bad when I take it and feel great when I don't and is it really helping. My LIVER Dr. has told me to stay away from all the meds I can except for what he has been giving me, and stay with a good deit and excercise program.

My normal prescription is Metformin Tab 500 MG ER Mfg: AMNEAL from a Home Delivery service. I had to get a 30 day supply from the local pharmacy and they gave me Metformin HCL ER 500 MG Tablet Sun P 62756-01-0142-01. Is there any difference?
