What Is The Generic Equivalent Of "brand Xanax"? (Page 2) (Top voted first)

Updated

Been on BRAND XANAX FOR 20 YRS-PANIC ATTACKS/SEVERE ANXIETY; TAKE 9MGS/DAY AND AS NEEDED FOR PANIC ATTACKS. USED TO TAKE UPJOHN, now PFIZER BRAND - both said XANAX 1.0 mg; BLUE FOOTBALL.

TRYING TO FIND CLOSEST EQUIVALENT IN "GENERIC" BECAUSE INSURANCE NO LONGER COVERS "BRAND XANAX" AND IT IS 2.80$ A PILL. TRIED 3 GENERIC ALPROZALAM'S AND 2 DID NOTHING, 1 WAS JUST SEDATING....

TRIED SANDOZ GG TOP/258 BOTTOM/ACTIVIS R039 LONG YELLOW BAR - 2.0MG/AND GREENSTONE GENERIC (PFIZER)... SANDOZ WAS VERY SEDATING AND DIDN'T STOP PANIC OR ANXIETY.

WHICH GENERIC ALPROZALAM HAS "SAME OR CLOSEST AMOUNT - OR MORE OF THE ACTIVE INGREDIENT" AND LASTS 4-6 HRS IN 1.0MG?

DOC'S BEHIND ME AND SO IS MY GREAT PHARMACIST WHO ORDERS EVERY ONE HE CAN FIND - BUT NONE THAT WORK THE SAME. I CAN'T AFFORD 800$/MONTH! PLEASE PLEASE HELP - ON DISABILITY AND THEY TOOK ALL THE BENZO'S OFF FORMULARY...DON'T KNOW WHAT PEOPLE ARE DOING...GOING W/O FOOD & CLOTHES & GAS JUST TO AFFORD MY MEDS...THANK YOU SO VERY VERY MUCH!

If you want the Brand Name product then yes you will have to pay for it. You can print out one of those Discount Cards that can save you Tons. My Soma costs me $2 with Insurance, $100 without. Soma by the way was changed to a Federal Schedule IV (4) Medicine (like Xanax) after years of attempts. Even with it highly controlled I was able to get 720 Soma off of them in the last year along with Alprazolam. While I have no doubt these meds are being watched, they are very inexpensive so the insurance company does not mind paying for these type of generic medicines. Personally the perceived difference might just be in your mind? I have only been unhappy one time with a generic brand over 25 years of Alprazolam use . Even then they still cost about a buck for a 1 mg dose.

1 MG for $2.80?. It did not cost that in the 90s. I pay $1.80 for 180 1 MG generic pills? Why not?

i have a very high tolerance for zanax. ive been on them since i was 17 im 35 now. ive went from 2 one mg a to 8mg though out the day. ive always went through kroger pharmacy they have always and still have sandoz gg brand. ive been reading what people have said about greenstone. the best way to find it is look up corner drug store. put in your zip code and city. they will tell you where that store is. usally in the county store where you live noy a chain like rite aid and cvs. the darker blue pills from rite aid only made me sleepy. which is weird. because zanax does not make me sleepy. i guess thats why i have always stuck by the sandoz brand. im going to switch to the greenstone this week. only because my dr for the first time has switched me from the 1mg to the 2mg zanax. i build a tolerance so fast to yhe sandoz that ive went from 4 to 8 in 8 months. im hoping that the greenstone will control my symtoms of panic/anxiety and ptsd and doesnt make me sleepy without needing another one in two hrs. right now im one 1& 1/2 mg 4 times a day and two as needed and im taking 4 in the morning and 3 in the morning and one at night and its making my fears worse. my only problem now is that i will be out for 5 days!!! i have depokote. which i found out that depokote kills benos. but when i take the depokote i dont need as many zanax but if i have a panic attack zanax wont work period!!! depokote is great for seziures and supposily migraines. but it gives me migraines due to my head trama two yrs ago. so ill suffer for a few days or be in the er. but if anyone that reads this please let me know how greenstone reacts to you. does it stay with you? the dr has switched to 2mg 4 times a day. do you think greenstone will stick with me without the need to take more? please someone tell me. im already starting to panic because i couldve gotten the sandoz tomorrow. please respond

Yes, and they suck. Pharmacists tell you they're all the same, but they're not. If so, then why do they have a problem just giving you want you request. I suspect the answer lies in the price they pay for the meds & the profit they make off them. I just said a mouthful. That's what it boils down to. Where I live in Alabama, the Fred's pharmacies sell this brand, and it wasn't doing me any good, so I changed pharmacies. Found out none of the generics worked for me at the .5 and 1 mg levels. There are lots of meds I seem to have a high tolerance too that causes other people side effects, but I can't help that. And none of them have an inclination to do you any special favors either. As a person who has suffered anxiety all my life - to the point that I can't look someone in the eye and I have panic attacks, I have yet to find something that helps. Effexor helps some with the anxiety, but not with the attacks. I feel like I'm being played like a fiddle, and I resent it.

i have finally found a dr instead of a pill pusher whom which ive asked to help me taper off these things. i was too young then and too young now to take so many. i dont get the so-called buzz from these pills. which alot of people only take these for that reason. i have fought drs all my life and they keep putting me on the same thing. my biggest problem was that the generic i was on didnt last long at all. it scared me at first. i have never taken anything but the 1mg xanax. then he switched it to two mg. so i did some research and asked a pharmisist. i just wanted simething to work instead of my mind going into over drive. which sandoz just stopped working. so far so good on the greenstone. didnt need as many, and i didnt wake up needing another pill. i hate pills. i hate the fact that i have to take xanax to function. but i believe th dr is a pill pusher. and im on my way to find another. lol i told him i wanted to take less pills. he puts me on higher dosage. what since does that make?

thank you. i will ask. most drs want me on anti depressants. which for one thing im not depressed, but i do need something to calm down my brain so i can concentrate. if i wasnt on these d*** pills id be stuck. in my own shell. my mind racing, unable to complete or even start a task. ive been known to be stuck in a bed for weeks. its not fun trying to get your mind to stop long enough to move or get just one little thing done. thank you again! i will ask. i also have a nero dr that may help. i relize it will take time to wean off these pills. but ive noticed with 2mg i dont need all 4 a day. i only take two and split one in 1/2. and it works. i think weaning off the actual xanax is alot easier than a generic. i woke up. best sleep ever at 8 this morning and to tell the truth i dont feel as if i need one. so i only took 1/2 which i know is the same as 1mg xanax. but im able to move. thank you soo much!!

I'm glad you are going to ask your Doctor. If you have racing thoughts, your diagnosis may not be depression and that's why you don't feel depressed. I have no clue what may cause that, but a Doctor or Neurologist would know and could steer you to the right medication. The anti-depressants actually do accomplish a lot of things so that just may be the answer though. Please make sure you explain all your symptoms so you are properly treated, and please don't give up! It make take a trial of a few medications before you find one that works and doesn't have a lot of side affects you can't tolerate. Again, I am very interested and I care being disabled for mental illness for 27 years, so please let me know as things progress for you. :)

Obviously, you are completely uninformed about generic drugs and the rather large range of bioavailability of the active ingredient that the FDA allows for. Two FDA approved generic versions of Wellbutrin XL were recently pulled off the market. The company's diagnostics indicated that they were bioequivalent to the brand name. Patients began to complain - the FDA ran some independent diagnostics. The brand and generic versions produces significantly different blood levels of bupropion.

It's strange. My body/mind never had a problem with a single generic medication. I always adapted fine to them. A close friend of mine, however cannot take generic Wellbutrin or Lamictal. She is still trying with not much success to adapt to them.

Brands and manufacturers do matter, generic brands have to have at least 30% of the chemical up to 70% making the results from different brands vary. I've been prescribed .5 for a little over two years for PTSD. These people don't need to be judged or belittled. I am aware, that benzodiazepines can cause dependency. But so do all other medications for mental illness, like antidepressants. benzodiazepines and pain killers can cause a dependency but their a much more dire problems with them and why you need to be careful while taking either one or both.

1) they are not meant to be taken together because the combination of the two can be fatal (I'm surprised you've been prescribed both; however I also don't know how you're dr has instructed you to take them. I'm not trying to make it sound like you don't need them or that your dr doesn't know what he is doing. You just really have to pay attention and monitor how you're taking them).

2) both of these drugs can be highly addictive

3) you WILL build a tolerance of these drugs over time needing higher and higher doses. But the doses only become so high and once you've reached such a high tolerance you begin taking more pills than instructed which lead to addiction and overdosing. Painkiller dependency can make people very very ill but once they've reached such a high tolerance the pills have little to no effect and OxyContin and oxycodone are just synthetic opiates and 85% of illicit drug addicts were given prescription painkillers.

With all that in mind be careful and monitor your medicine intake carefully and if you think there is a problem or worried about developing a tolerance/dependency/addiction don't be afraid to speak up and ask your doctor questions.

Xanax is a drug you build a tolerance for. And sometimes your anxiety can worsen.

Xanax dependency/withdrawals can cause seizures. And I can get more accomplished and focus better when I take my .5. I think this l is because I have so much anxiety going on in my head that it makes it impossible to stay focused. your anxiety takes up all your energy so the less anxiety you have the more energy you have.

Any brand of Xanax you will build a tolerance for. If your tolerance is extremely high I would highly recommend speaking to your psychiatrist. Medication that you build a tolerance for can be dangerous for example: "Three a day it isn't working so why not try four" and the number of pills and the milagram dosage all grow. Dependency/withdrawal effects for benzodiazepines include seizures. This can also lead to addiction and to overdosing. Don't every take more than the recommended dose on the bottle. Also, this medication gives only momentarily relief, your over all anxiety will most likely worsen unless you attend therapy and find a healthy source of stress relief such as exercising, reading, painting, writing, taking the dog for a walk. Etc
I have PTSD and am prescribed .5 mg and finding the right kind of medication is half the battle, therapy and a creating a positive lifestyle are the second part. Also Actavis is a horrible manufacturer the sandos worked better for me.

Re: RABAIL DEAN from houlihans the anniversary dinner (# 13) Expand Referenced Message

I take generic xanax-4 a day for last 11 years and you are right about a lot of things. Prolonged use of benzo's and many other medications causes a tolerance. It doesnt take that long to get a tolerance for benzos but generally, if taken as prescribed and take only when needed-one can delay tolerance for years. Its key though to not take more and to not take if the anxiety is just mild bc there are other things to do or take if the anxiety can be dealt with another way, I am allowed to take 4 a day but it wouldnt be prudent for me totake what im allowed esp since everyday isnt a hellish anxiety laden day.
Also, I can see why someone said that they thought you werent a doctor. I was a nurse, my twin sister is a doctor, mom a nurse and Dad and Uncle and and many good friends are doctors. When you said Alprazolam is Alpraazolam-I guess meaning that no matter what brand-they are all the same. Well that is completely false. I used to believe that until i was switched to a different brand of xanax and it does not work the same way as it it not nearly as effective. Also, its true-The FDA allows generics to have different fillers which can alter how the body breaks down the pill and they allow a percentage (20%plus or minus) of the active ingredient that 'does the work' to vary in generic brands-where as the Brand name drug doesnt vary. When the Brand name says a pill is 1mg-its 1 mg. The FDA changed these requirememts under The Hatch-Waxman Act of 1984. 20% less is quite significant.
