(Newest replies first)

Been on BRAND XANAX FOR 20 YRS-PANIC ATTACKS/SEVERE ANXIETY; TAKE 9MGS/DAY AND AS NEEDED FOR PANIC ATTACKS. USED TO TAKE UPJOHN, now PFIZER BRAND - both said XANAX 1.0 mg; BLUE FOOTBALL.

TRYING TO FIND CLOSEST EQUIVALENT IN "GENERIC" BECAUSE INSURANCE NO LONGER COVERS "BRAND XANAX" AND IT IS 2.80$ A PILL. TRIED 3 GENERIC ALPROZALAM'S AND 2 DID NOTHING, 1 WAS JUST SEDATING....

TRIED SANDOZ GG TOP/258 BOTTOM/ACTIVIS R039 LONG YELLOW BAR - 2.0MG/AND GREENSTONE GENERIC (PFIZER)... SANDOZ WAS VERY SEDATING AND DIDN'T STOP PANIC OR ANXIETY.

WHICH GENERIC ALPROZALAM HAS "SAME OR CLOSEST AMOUNT - OR MORE OF THE ACTIVE INGREDIENT" AND LASTS 4-6 HRS IN 1.0MG?

DOC'S BEHIND ME AND SO IS MY GREAT PHARMACIST WHO ORDERS EVERY ONE HE CAN FIND - BUT NONE THAT WORK THE SAME. I CAN'T AFFORD 800$/MONTH! PLEASE PLEASE HELP - ON DISABILITY AND THEY TOOK ALL THE BENZO'S OFF FORMULARY...DON'T KNOW WHAT PEOPLE ARE DOING...GOING W/O FOOD & CLOTHES & GAS JUST TO AFFORD MY MEDS...THANK YOU SO VERY VERY MUCH!

It's strange. My body/mind never had a problem with a single generic medication. I always adapted fine to them. A close friend of mine, however cannot take generic Wellbutrin or Lamictal. She is still trying with not much success to adapt to them.

Obviously, you are completely uninformed about generic drugs and the rather large range of bioavailability of the active ingredient that the FDA allows for. Two FDA approved generic versions of Wellbutrin XL were recently pulled off the market. The company's diagnostics indicated that they were bioequivalent to the brand name. Patients began to complain - the FDA ran some independent diagnostics. The brand and generic versions produces significantly different blood levels of bupropion.

Some doctors, are indeed, "pill pushers" but when you find a doctor that is qualified and truly wants to help you, it may be difficult to accept that you need to take medication. I have to take medication for mental illness for the rest of my life. Do I like it? NO! However, without it, I am a total mess, so I've learned to accept it as a part of my life. Another story to prove this is my Brother had problems since childhood and he fought going to a psychiatrist. He was laid off from his job 7 years ago and has been petrified to go back to work, to go back on the train, to ride a bus, and got much worse. He finally went to the doctor and is taking an anti-depressant and generic Xanax, as needed, and actively looking for work and doing great! There is nothing wrong with taking medication unless you are abusing it to make yourself feel high! The best to you! Please let me know how you make out!

I'm glad you are going to ask your Doctor. If you have racing thoughts, your diagnosis may not be depression and that's why you don't feel depressed. I have no clue what may cause that, but a Doctor or Neurologist would know and could steer you to the right medication. The anti-depressants actually do accomplish a lot of things so that just may be the answer though. Please make sure you explain all your symptoms so you are properly treated, and please don't give up! It make take a trial of a few medications before you find one that works and doesn't have a lot of side affects you can't tolerate. Again, I am very interested and I care being disabled for mental illness for 27 years, so please let me know as things progress for you. :)

thank you. i will ask. most drs want me on anti depressants. which for one thing im not depressed, but i do need something to calm down my brain so i can concentrate. if i wasnt on these d*** pills id be stuck. in my own shell. my mind racing, unable to complete or even start a task. ive been known to be stuck in a bed for weeks. its not fun trying to get your mind to stop long enough to move or get just one little thing done. thank you again! i will ask. i also have a nero dr that may help. i relize it will take time to wean off these pills. but ive noticed with 2mg i dont need all 4 a day. i only take two and split one in 1/2. and it works. i think weaning off the actual xanax is alot easier than a generic. i woke up. best sleep ever at 8 this morning and to tell the truth i dont feel as if i need one. so i only took 1/2 which i know is the same as 1mg xanax. but im able to move. thank you soo much!!

Instead of generic Xanax, would your Doctor consider prescribing generic Ativan (Lorazepam) or generic Clonopin (Clonazepam)? They are both in the same class of drug as Xanax is and may work for you. The Lorazepam has been a lifesaver for me for Panic Attacks. If not, since the generic Xanax is not effective, would your Doctor consider raising the dosage? Unfortunately, Pharmacies get in different brands of generic medications and you can't chose which one they have in stock. Good luck, and please tell me how you make out!

i have finally found a dr instead of a pill pusher whom which ive asked to help me taper off these things. i was too young then and too young now to take so many. i dont get the so-called buzz from these pills. which alot of people only take these for that reason. i have fought drs all my life and they keep putting me on the same thing. my biggest problem was that the generic i was on didnt last long at all. it scared me at first. i have never taken anything but the 1mg xanax. then he switched it to two mg. so i did some research and asked a pharmisist. i just wanted simething to work instead of my mind going into over drive. which sandoz just stopped working. so far so good on the greenstone. didnt need as many, and i didnt wake up needing another pill. i hate pills. i hate the fact that i have to take xanax to function. but i believe th dr is a pill pusher. and im on my way to find another. lol i told him i wanted to take less pills. he puts me on higher dosage. what since does that make?

Not on XANAX or a generic but I do take a generic version of KLONOPIN (clonazepam). I ran into similar experiences with notable differences in manufacturers' quality. Was also on diazepam, generic VALIUM, in the past. One company that produced TERRIBLE generics is MYLAN. The strength of both generic KLONOPIN and generic VALIUM made by Mylan are about half the strength of the brand names. And the tablets are so poorly made that they crumble in the bottle. I refuse ALL Mylan products. The 2 best companies I've found for quality generic drugs are ACTAVIS and TEVA. Not sure they make Alprazolam but if they do, they're worth a try.

Yes, and they suck. Pharmacists tell you they're all the same, but they're not. If so, then why do they have a problem just giving you want you request. I suspect the answer lies in the price they pay for the meds & the profit they make off them. I just said a mouthful. That's what it boils down to. Where I live in Alabama, the Fred's pharmacies sell this brand, and it wasn't doing me any good, so I changed pharmacies. Found out none of the generics worked for me at the .5 and 1 mg levels. There are lots of meds I seem to have a high tolerance too that causes other people side effects, but I can't help that. And none of them have an inclination to do you any special favors either. As a person who has suffered anxiety all my life - to the point that I can't look someone in the eye and I have panic attacks, I have yet to find something that helps. Effexor helps some with the anxiety, but not with the attacks. I feel like I'm being played like a fiddle, and I resent it.

We'll they kick in fast and kick back out just as fast. I've been on sandoz for 14 yrs. I switched today because with the sandoz brand I built a tolerance real fast, and withdrawal badly. I was up to 8 one mg a day. Told my dr about the fact I didn't want to take so many pills a day. I've looked up greenstone and seen what many people have said about it. I recieved my new prescription this morning. The dr changed me to 4 two mg a day. I took one at 9:00 am, it's now 3:30 and I haven't needed to take another. My mind is straight, no erge to take more, no sleepiness, I feel normal again thank God. I was bit scared at first, but I'm glad I went ahead and went through with the greenstone!!!

You are like an Alprazolam Buff. An expert of nothing. Your mind is diseased and the sad thing is YOU CAN'T TELL. It would be best for anyone who is obsessed in what brand they can get from which store to get off Alprazolam as soon as possible, if not sooner?

ive been on sandoz for 14 yrs. i have a chemical imbalance, psnic/anxiety disorder/ptsd/manic depressive. my dr put me on depokote due to sezuires. i had small ones that no one could fiquire out till now. its supposed to treat sezuires and migraines. but it gives me migraines and if you have a panic attack u r screwed! depokote rejects benzos completely!!! but my biggest problem with sandoz is i build a tolerence really fast. the first week ok the next its more and then i have a panic attack knowing or thinking im going to run out. zanax effects mr different than most others. it clears my mind and gives me the energy to be able to complete one task at a time. ive read on here about the greenstone brand. it seems to be most popular. i need something to stick with me instead of needing another one in an hr. im up to 8 1mg a day the dr switched me to 2mg a day. ive seen everyone vote on the greenstone generic. if you want to try that you cannot find them in rite aid, walgreens, ect... go to corner drug store. it will ask you where you live and it will take you more than likely to a little pharmacy in your county u live in. they carry greenstone. i dont know yet about greenstone till monday. i couldve went in with the sandoz i just got tired of taking so many pills throughout the day. hope i helped.

i have a very high tolerance for zanax. ive been on them since i was 17 im 35 now. ive went from 2 one mg a to 8mg though out the day. ive always went through kroger pharmacy they have always and still have sandoz gg brand. ive been reading what people have said about greenstone. the best way to find it is look up corner drug store. put in your zip code and city. they will tell you where that store is. usally in the county store where you live noy a chain like rite aid and cvs. the darker blue pills from rite aid only made me sleepy. which is weird. because zanax does not make me sleepy. i guess thats why i have always stuck by the sandoz brand. im going to switch to the greenstone this week. only because my dr for the first time has switched me from the 1mg to the 2mg zanax. i build a tolerance so fast to yhe sandoz that ive went from 4 to 8 in 8 months. im hoping that the greenstone will control my symtoms of panic/anxiety and ptsd and doesnt make me sleepy without needing another one in two hrs. right now im one 1& 1/2 mg 4 times a day and two as needed and im taking 4 in the morning and 3 in the morning and one at night and its making my fears worse. my only problem now is that i will be out for 5 days!!! i have depokote. which i found out that depokote kills benos. but when i take the depokote i dont need as many zanax but if i have a panic attack zanax wont work period!!! depokote is great for seziures and supposily migraines. but it gives me migraines due to my head trama two yrs ago. so ill suffer for a few days or be in the er. but if anyone that reads this please let me know how greenstone reacts to you. does it stay with you? the dr has switched to 2mg 4 times a day. do you think greenstone will stick with me without the need to take more? please someone tell me. im already starting to panic because i couldve gotten the sandoz tomorrow. please respond

I've recently been prescribed 2mg generic Xanax by sandoz.. My prescription says to take 4-2mg pills a day which I think is much.. But not really when these sandoz Xanax don't do s***.. Ive even resorted to drinking a 12 oz bud light with it and still nothing.. i def feel like I'm wasting my time by taking them.. I've done some research online and thru friends and have come across Actavis 2mg yellow/green bars.. I remember taking some of these a little over a year ago and they worked great.. I'm just wondering if they are the same and still available.. Any info would be greatly appreciated..

1 MG for $2.80?. It did not cost that in the 90s. I pay $1.80 for 180 1 MG generic pills? Why not?

Brand Names vs. Generic
that is a hard one. Some generic meds are better then brand name but not many. Ever think why a Brand name may cost say for example $90 vs the generic brand at say $17,50? The government should look out for the patient rather then the drug company. Also when it comes to Narcotic medications I think the DEA have a big part in the formulation of ie Pain Meds. Apparently they think we are all hooked on drugs but maybe they should feel the pain that some of us go through.

How can you tell if you really gettingngreenstone before you take it and nothin happems?

If you want the Brand Name product then yes you will have to pay for it. You can print out one of those Discount Cards that can save you Tons. My Soma costs me $2 with Insurance, $100 without. Soma by the way was changed to a Federal Schedule IV (4) Medicine (like Xanax) after years of attempts. Even with it highly controlled I was able to get 720 Soma off of them in the last year along with Alprazolam. While I have no doubt these meds are being watched, they are very inexpensive so the insurance company does not mind paying for these type of generic medicines. Personally the perceived difference might just be in your mind? I have only been unhappy one time with a generic brand over 25 years of Alprazolam use . Even then they still cost about a buck for a 1 mg dose.
