The manufacturer has tripled the cost of this medication. Is there another substitute for this drug?

Unfortunately, there is no cheaper substitute, this is the generic for this potassium supplement and it's really the only high potency one that's available on the market to bring levels up fast, so they don't linger at the dangerous point.

What I'd suggest everyone do is speak to their doctors to see what they can take from now on, or what they can eat or drink in the future to help keep their levels from falling dangerously low again.

For instance, if you take diuretics for heart failure or hypertension, then your doctor may have you switch to a different one, such as Spironolactone, which can actually raise your potassium, rather than cause it to drop like most others.

You can learn more Spironolactone details here.

And in Katie's case, while I can't help with treatment and diagnosis, since I am not a doctor, what I can suggest that they look into with such symptoms is dehydration.

In most cases, that is what leads to potassium loss and the types of symptoms she was describing. A solution and easement of the symptoms may be as simple as taking in some extra fluids and making sure not to let themselves get dehydrated in the future.

Now, before upping your fluid, you should always check with your doctor to make sure it's safe for you to do so, because there are some conditions, such as late stage congestive heart failure, where it may not be safe for you to do so.

Are there any questions or comments?

Is there anything I can help with?

My Dr. prescribed Potassium CL 10 MEQ ER to take one tablet each morning for night time leg cramps, but I am having extreme cramps in my toes and the tops of my feet. Also, I'm finding no circulation in my legs from the knee down. I no longer have a Dr. b/c I have no insurance and can't afford to pay for him any longer
