What Benefits Should I Look For In Suboxone?
UpdatedFirst off ive been using roxies for about 5 years on and off. When its bad its like a $150+ a day habit, ill get "clean"(literally just using enough to keep withdrawls at bay, not enough to get high, like 2 blues a day) for about a month then i go back to using heavy. Recently i went through some s***, decided to seriously put it all down for good, tapered down to one pill a day, then locked myself in my house for a week and went totally cold turkey. Needless to say that was f***ing horrible. Anyway my question is this, i dont feel i have the strength to stay away from the s*** entirely on my own recognizence, so would suboxone be something i should look into? I met with a doctor to discuss costs and treatment, she feels it would help, money is not the issue, i would really like some opinions from some people with personal experience. Thanks.

Hi Mike, There is no doubt in my mind, that 5yrs ago Suboxone saved my life. Like yourself at that time in my life, I was no way stronger enough to stay away from opiates on my own will power alone. 4 years ago I made the decision that, i was ready to start a reduction resume to get off suboxone . I felt finally I am in the right place emotionally and had worked through so many things that had kept me in bondage for so many years, to never want to pick up another pill. In saying all that for the last year I have tried to continually reduce off suboxone & can only get as low as 4mg per day. no matter how many times i reduce to 2mg, & i can only speak for myself, I just cant seem to make it through the night without the additional 2mg, thus taking me back to 4mg per day. All i can say is many people i know like or similar to myself have used suboxone to stay off other drugs, some on high doses still after quite a few years like me are struggling to b able to reduce. Personally it it comes down to 1 or the other I would definately recommend suboxone, at least until you can get further support or get yourself out of the hell, many of us have lived in & through. Better than the alternative, u will have more energy to begin with, feel so much more functional, & so much less madness in your life? I mean those words in the kindest way & from my heart. So my answer would be yes for only as long as needed, because there has not been alot of research done on suboxone. I feel the longer you stay on it, the harder the reduction is. (speaking for myself) Hope this helps u make a decision, and i did not over complicate ur question?
As someone with medication information to offer, rather than experience, I can add some other details.
The main reason that Suboxone is now preferred over Methadone is due to the fact that most people that take it do eventually end up drug free, though it can take a very long time, sometimes a few years.
While those who are treated with Methadone usually require a lifetime maintenance dose of it.
And here are more Suboxone details here to help you learn more about it.

it will help. I sometimes feel like THE ENERGIZER BUNNY . You do have to understand I don't mean the junkie, high, bunny. Just imagine how it used to feel like when you didn't have to do anything stay well. That's what it feels like. Like you don't have to worry & worry about what you even HAVE TO DO IN YOUR QUEST TO JUST FEEL SOBER, NOT PUKING, NO CHILLS, NO BODY ACHES, BUT U R NOT GOING TO FEEL HIGH, OR BUZZED, AT ALL. I guess that when you decide that you are ready to except for a FACT THAT YOU ARE NOT EVEN GOING TO BE ABLE TOO FEEL HIGH EVEN ONCE EVER IN YOUR ENTIRE LIFE. Nothing dude, I tried . Then you can allow yourself to finally get some sleep and some rest, but get ready to do A LOT of thinking and get used to the fact that not only are you going to be able to move, that you actually want to do stuff. I have been dealing with having suboxone in my life for a year or so now. I don't want really or need to tell anyone how long it has been a part of my life or really I don't think that I need to worry about how much longer it will be. I'm not sure if I have an idea of why people are so worried about how long I have been on it or even if I know how much longer that I might take it. It's a secret between you and your Dr. I will give any and every single person that advice right away. Not even your mom or dad or significant other needs to know. It's all to protect you. People who have no business being anywhere near your life will ask. People will try to get him or her to tell them how much u take and if they know how much u get per month and how much longer is the DR planning to keep you on it? You know that those people are going to want one thing from you. The best way to help people is too do what I am doing. Go to 90 meeting n 90 days if u can. Move to get to know u again.
Yeah, I'm on Subutex and they work great. Also, a couple of Valium a day will not harm you. Take it at you're own pace. Suboxone will help with withdrawal. Good luck.
