I find it rather odd that the pharmacy is telling you not to take what the doctor prescribed you. One thing you have to keep in mind is that the pharmacy does not know your medical history or any of your personal reasons for having to supplement Vitamin D.
I would however argue that Vitamin D2 is synthetic and therefore may not be as effective as it's more natural counterpart (Vitamin D3). From this point of view, I can understand why the pharmacy may recommend that you take D3 instead of D2.
