I have fibroymyalgia, besides other medication i've been taking oxycodone 10/325 I have been taking for 6yrs to manage my pain it works good and although im still in pain i am comfortable. I just moved to different state and have a doctor appts. with new physician.. Will he most likely prescribe the same meds as my own doctor,, uuggh i hate going to a new doctor,, i've had the same doctor for 13 yrs. and i'm nervous.. i dont want the new docter thinking i'm a junkie because i aske him.. i've always taken my meds as directed and don't abuse them but i know how some doctors feel about prescribing narcatocs.. what do u think.. please my appt. is in 18 days and i want to know how i should approach my questions.. thank you
Stephanie, they are the same medication, the narcotic Oxycodone is the active ingredient in both of them. Therefore, there is no different between them other than the dosage and possibly the formulation.
You didn't post the markings on the pills, however, the difference may be in the formulation. Oxycontin is a time released formulation of Oxycodone, which is meant to be taken ever 12 hours.
And the other tablet may be an instant release or a regular release formulation of Oxycodone.
Narcotics are often prescribed this way, so a person can get some pain relief, with a regular or instant release tablet, while waiting for the time released on to start working.
The medication may cause side effects, like: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and constipation.

joann, your best bet is, at first, to let your medical records speak for themselves. Make sure you either take a copy of them with you, when you go see the new doctor, or that you have a copy of them sent to his office.
This enables them to see why you are on the medication and what other medications you may have tried that didn't work for you, as well as details on any tests performed and etc. As long as their have been no red flags that made any doctor suspicious that you were abusing medications, many doctors will stick with a current treatment protocol that's been working for someone, rather than switch and start all over.

Make sure you take evidence from the doctor that prescibed the meds to you. I have fibro and have trouble managing my pain. What all are you taking for it
i take morphine sulphate 30mg er 3 times a day, oxycodone 15mg 4 times a day, lorazapam 1mg 3times a day gabapentin 3 times aday, zoloft 100mg 1 times aday. is that a lot of medication to take allat once , ihad back surgury back in december
Nancy, what is or isn't a lot of medications to take can be a very relative thing. There are people in this world who take way more than you do in a day and there are people who take a lot less. It really depends on what condition is being treated and what works for you.
Some people can get pain relief just using one medication, while others require a combination to get effective relief, just like what you are taking.
The main problem you run into when you take many medications, at once, is a potentiation of the side effects.
For instance, the Morphine and Oxycodone are both narcotics, which may cause side effects like nausea, drowsiness, constipation and dizziness, so taking them both can make those much worse than they would be, if you were only taking one of them.
https://rxchat.com/wiki/Morphine/
https://rxchat.com/wiki/Oxycodone/
And there are always risks to taking medications and using them long-term, but in many cases the problems associated with not using them are much worse than those from taking the medications.
The Lorazepam is a Benzodiazepine and this class of medications is known to be habit forming, with long-term use.

My main concern, when I see someone taking this many medications, is that sometimes more are added, by their doctor, to treat the side effects of others, rather than resolving the side effect problem.
As an example, since the narcotics also act as depressants, rather than adjusting their dosage, if the person complains of depression or mental health issues, the doctor adds something like the Zoloft to treat those symptoms and this really just compounds the problem, by adding something else into the mix that can cause more side effects.
Thus, that is something that you are really going to want to watch out for.
Is there anything else I can help with?
Hey do u live in hagerstown I need some information on meds I was prescribed if u would please post back id appericate it thanks
Stephenie, misinformed by Big Phil and Verwon, neither of them are correct on their response... Percocet contains Oxycodone and Tylenol not Aspirin. The pill you mentioned Oxycodone 15mg HCI Contains Hydrochloride, hence the term (HCI). These ingredients are both contained in Oxycontin also only it is extended relief which is the only difference between the two. In The Percocet, the Tylenol is the active ingredient not the Oxycodone. In the Oxycodone and the Oxycontin the Hydrochloride is the active ingredient. Neither medication would not be as effective without the Tylenol or the Hydrochloride.
Is the State of Tennessee stopping Oxycodone 30s from being sold? My doctor said that.
if you can give them to a doctor you can`t flush them down the toilet. it doesn`t get treated at the water treatment plant.
Shouldn't matter to anyone but pt as to why they were prescribed these meds. They are both very strong pain medications. The best advice: throw it down the toilet, flush and don't be concerned w someone else's medical status. If he was a friend and wanted you to know I'm sure he would have told you. Just please don't take it as a way to feel high as someone can easily go into respiratory distress. Not a drug to be played with. Bottom line they are both used as a pain medication. Good luck to you.
What is the question?why they died? Someone would so am otopsy right with a death like that so suddenm? They have to incase it was a disease that can be passed down to other generations. I would check that out.
Hi I hear you......but try being an ex junkie ( clean 2 yrs) trying to get some pain meds when I really need them.
Hello if you're going to a new doctor make sure you have a CT scan or MRI because most likely the doctor will consider, but most pain management doctor's will start from the bottom....but good luck
Take any medical records you have proving your condition with you to show why you need it. Also take your meds with you to show you were prescribed this will hopefully prevent any delays. they can check your board of pharmacy as well to show a doctor was prescribing and how much and for how long. Good Luck and if they say not move on because someone will help
Depends on what State you're moving to. Also don't get your hopes up that a new doc is going to prescribe the same meds even though you have been on them and have medical history to back it up. Unfortunately all the i****s out there think they know what's best for those with chronic pain. All I can say is you should probably save as many as you can because doctors are becoming more reluctant to prescribe these meds. I jump through hoops every month and still have a problem every single month I go to refill.
I feel the same way I moved from New York to pa n the I feel bad asking for my prescriptions also. He Kiera them n then puts it back
Oxycodone is immediate release tablet...Oxycontin is oxycodone in an extended release tablet. 30 mgs oxycodone is precribed to be taken every 4 to 6 hours where as oxycontin is usually prescribed 10-12 hours apart.
If it really belonged to a "friend" who passed away why does it matter at this point what it is or what the difference is between the 2? Flush them or take to a local pharmacy and have them destroy them. If you are caught with a deceased persons medications each pill in almost all States is a felony.don't chance it man just get rid of
I take the same meds because of three back surgery's,except my oxycodone is 10 mg three times a day.Yes it's alot of meds but to have any quality of life I have to take it,if you can get off it your better off cause it is addicting.Ive been on it for four years now and can't go without because of the pain as well as the addiction I'm sure.*

What's the difference between Hydrocodone 7.5/325 and Oxycontin 5 MG?
Re: ja mart (# 18)
Hi. So, which medicine would be most effective for chronic pain? I have had a traumatic brain injury with lots of headaches, but what is worse, is the abdominal pain I have from gastroparesis, paralyzed stomach. I was prescribed 5 ml of oxycodone every 4-6 hours. Would the strength of the OxyContin be as strong, only lasting longer? Is that better? My dr gave me permission to take 10ml oxycodone because that works better for me. Also, I need liquid or IV form. Do either of these come in IV form? Thanks!
Hi,
I'm pretty new to pain management. I have gastroparesis and a traumatic brain injury and on disability. I was given Oxycodone liquid 5/5ml. What is the difference between Oxycodone and Roxicodone or OxyContin? I would just like to be educated, and you all know so much! How did you learn so much about each drug? Also, 10 mg relieves my pain pretty well, but I have never had any strange feelings in my head or anything. Why do people want this for recreational use? How quickly can someone become addicted to this? I'm very concerned about becoming addicted, so I rarely take a full dose each day. Thanks for your help!
Re: Verwon (# 6)
Wow, you are well educated! Thank you so much for pointing this out. Sometimes I do wonder if I stopped taking all my medicines, don't worry, I know I can't do that, what I would need to continue taking, and what is just controlling side effects. I am taking nexium, zofran, Phenergan, carafate and oxycodone for gastroparesis symptoms, Propanolol, Imatrex and Botox for migraine management, Xanax er, Effexor and Wellbutrin for PTSD, anxiety, social anxiety and depression brought on by the Tbi, Benadryl for the narcotic itches, belsomra, remeron, Albuterol, simbacourt inhailers for my asthma. I just think this is too much medicine. But I'm afraid to say something to the dr because I'm afraid they will take something away and then find out that I really do need it and won't be able to get it back. Does that make sense?
Hi guys,
I'm on this stuff myself and it can make your life miserable. You feel like a junkie which doesn't help your psychological state. I'm on a reduction programme and it's getting to the sharp end where I'm finding it really hard. Got pain and feel like crap all the time. Unrealistic to think I can just walk away from this stuff. Hate the vicious cycle. Get annoyed by people's appalling spelling and grammar on these posts. How petty is that? Have no simple answer. Hating life.
That's definitely alot at once! What doctor is this?
No State has stopped selling any of these drugs but many Drs will tell people this to kinda "weed" out addicts or people just looking to get pills for things other than treating their pain. Have to find a Dr who you trust and who trusts you. Can take a year or more for that relationship!!!
You shouldn't be concerned with what the differences are or amount, etc. If your story is true you should just flush in the toilet any pills you find and rip labels off the bottles before you throw away. I really hope you don't take those pills, this stuff can kill you. I don't get why you need to know differences in the 2 pill strengths if you're just trying to figure out why your friend died? Just saying, be careful playin with all this s***, it's no good life being an addict!!!
