What Is The Best Generic Version Of Wellbutrin Xl - Watson Or Anchen? (Page 55)

My doctor will not prescribe generic Wellbutrin XL but my insurance will no longer pay for brand name drugs. I will have to pay about $7000 per yer for what I am taking now (3 of the 150mg Wellbutrin XL brand name per day). I am reading that the problem with the generics is the time release mechanism and not the drug itself and that some are better than others. Anybody have experience with the generics made by Watson and /or Anchen?
I always take the generic Buproprion XL 150 and have great results with the small football shaped yellow one. The last time I filled my RX at Costco, they gave me what said the same thing, but must be a different manufacturer because it was a small white pill, which immediately gave me the metal taste in my mouth. I NEVER had that side effect before in the four years I've been taking it. Then, a few weeks later I began feeling VERY irritable and depressed again. I thought maybe I needed to change meds, but decided to go ahead and refill one more time, and talk to the Dr. about it. When I refilled, they gave me the small football shaped yellow one again, and within a few days I began to feel "normal" again.
Do your tabs say "A102" on them? Those are Anchen and the FDA says they are "bioequivalent" as of 10-10-2013. Also Mylan is "bioequivalent."
The dirty little secret is that they still cannot dissolve at exactly the same rate as the brand because that would violate their patent.
10-10-2013:
Based on data submitted by Watson, FDA has determined that that company’s generic bupropion HCl ER 300 mg tablet product is not therapeutically equivalent to Wellbutrin XL 300 mg. Watson has agreed to voluntarily withdraw this product from the distribution chain.
Ah, I see now that Par and Anchen have merged, so perhaps manufacturing has not changed. Back to the ol' drawing board as to reasons I'm feeling worse...
I have been taking Bupropion for about three months, and felt wonderful after about a week. I recently refilled and for the past two weeks have had increasing anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts (completely new for me). I noticed that the manufacturer had changed from Par Pharmaceutical to Anchen. I'm planning on asking for Wellbutrin tomorrow.
You might try asking your insurance (or HR department) to make an "exception" since your doc won't prescribe the generic.
In case you don't know, Wellbutrin XL has a program for patients to get the brand for $0 if you have insurance and no more than $50/month if you don't. Click link below for information:

Where do you find Anchen?
The Anchen Labs were the only generic Wellbutrin XL pills that I have no problems with. They work just as well as the original brand name!
I'm so glad you posted this! I just called my local Rite Aid and they have the Sandoz that I was looking for. You have absolutely made my day. Thanks!
I've been having similar problems with Mylan. I'm now get Sandoz from Rite Aid and it has the same color, markings, etc as EON. I had been taking Mylan for years and it just stopped working a few months ago. The Sandoz does not work as well as the brand name but it is better than the Mylan is now.
I have been on the Sandoz (EON) wellbutrin generic at 100mg for many years. It worked just like it was supposed to. Then I moved, and am now getting prescriptions at Walgreens, which was giving me Mylan, until I insisted they had to get the EON generic for me because Mylan didn't work, and I got a "Dispense As Written" notice from my psychopharmacologist to keep getting EON. Now, Walgreens says EON is no longer making the 100mg at ALL, and have been giving me the Mylan. I am really noticing a difference. I have amany stresses in my life, but I am not handling them as well as I normally would, am weepy and sad all the time. Told my Dr., he says "let's just keep an eye on it." Hasn't even suggested another solution like finding a new generic. I'm depressed, so I'm having a hard time doing all of this research on a subject I'm not trained in. All I want is my EON bupropion back! Any thoughts on what to do next?
My doctor increased my dose of Wellbutrin (generic anchen) from 150 mg up to 300 mg. To use up my prescription, he told me to take 2 of the 150 mg pills and then refill with the new script. I could really feel the difference in the increased dosage. I felt more clear headed, focused and happier than I'd felt in a long time. However, when I refilled with walgreens for the 300 mg pill, it was manufactured by mylan. In the last 2 weeks taking the new pill, I am slowly returning to my depression and anxiety. So today I decided to Google Wellbutrin and see if there was a higher dosage, when I found all this information about the differences in generics and recall of the tea brand. I'm so relieved that it seems to be that taking 300 mg of the generic brand Mylan is not quite as effective as 2 150 mg anchen. I called my walgreens and they said they didn't know anything about the Wellbutrin 300 mg generic problem. I'm going to call my doctor tomorrow and insurance and try to get approval for the name brand or go back to anchen. The time I had with the medication that worked has been the happiest I have had in years so this is very important to me!!
Hello. I take the Generic Wellbutrin XL 150 mg WATSON generic. It does fine for me. I would not take the generic version for many years but the brand name is just too expensive. I have heard that Watson is the best and I would agree.
Thank you for you post. I too have had GREAT results from the Actavis brand. Appoximately 7 days ago, I obtained my second refill of Bupropion HCL XL, 150 mg, which was the Watson Brand. I noticed severe changes in my temperment, and I was just rude. I began feeling overly sensitive and wanted to cry all the time. I contacted my pharmacist and explained that I noticed the differences with my moods, and what I thought was contributed to the change in brands. She immediately contacted my insrance company who approved me to obtained the Actavis brand. I am sold on this brand. Immediately I feel improvement in my mood. No WATSON for me!
wellbutrin is indeed generic.. it's the original generic forZyban which I was prescribed when it was very new in 1996 I believe. So I guess now there is a generic for the generic???
I am on a lot of medications and can't afford the brand name in some of themm.but the best generic in any and all of my meds is Watson.. the generics are not required by law to put as high a percent of the active ingredient in a medication as the name brand.. that's why some are better than others.
Generic Wellbutrin by Anchen is working just for me. Had the generic manufactured by Watson; it also worked well.
