What Is The Best Generic Version Of Wellbutrin Xl - Watson Or Anchen? (Page 50) (Top voted first)
UpdatedMy doctor will not prescribe generic Wellbutrin XL but my insurance will no longer pay for brand name drugs. I will have to pay about $7000 per yer for what I am taking now (3 of the 150mg Wellbutrin XL brand name per day). I am reading that the problem with the generics is the time release mechanism and not the drug itself and that some are better than others. Anybody have experience with the generics made by Watson and /or Anchen?
Thank you for sharing. I figured I wouldn't be the only one... Pharmacy switched me to Mylan bupropion 150 XL the other day. Horrible side effects: constant undercurrent of anxiety in the pit of my stomach all day, mild to full-blown panic, suicidal ideation, crying, insomnia. Took me all day to realize nothing had changed in my life except new manufacturer of med. Pharmacy said they are phasing out PAR A 101 tablets to these Mylan M B8 pills, but why?? I hate being a pushy customer but can't I ask why? I'm not against a new manufacturer unless it screws up my mental state. I mean, I've gone as needed from brand-name Wellbutrin to Teva to PAR with no noticeable differences. The pharmacy said they'd keep giving me PAR as long as possible, but I need to figure out what to do next. I don't think the Valeant site offers discounted Wellbutrin XR @ 150 mg, as far as I could see...
If you have commercial insurance, any commercial insurance, you can get Branded Wellbutrin XL with a 0$ co-pay. By the way, I am a rep for Valeant, yes but it doesn't change the fact that it is a 0$ co-pay as of Sunday Nov 8, 2015.
Get it while you can because it may change very soon.
Neil: $0 co-pay, but almost $800/month to the insurance company. That's almost $10,000 a year, and for a drug that's been out of patent since 1999! I feel sorry for any of your customers who have individual policies, because they are in for a rude shock at the next policy anniversary.
At least Valeant will have you sipping mai tais in Acapulco by then, so you'll be sleeping easy (in your 5-star hotel).
" By the way, I am a rep for Valeant, yes but it doesn't change the fact that it is a 0$ co-pay as of Sunday Nov 8, 2015."
It also doesn't change the fact that if you take the "0$ co-pay" then Valeant is going to take $500-$600 per month from your insurance in order for you to "save" $50. When you and your coworkers are bitterly complaining about your insurance premiums going up, you should realize that taking the "0$ co-pay" is stealing money from yourselves.
And then there is the "cadillac tax." The thousands of dollars per year for each of you and your coworkers "saving" a pittance adds up, and if the "value" of your insurance goes up a little bit then the government will make you pay a 40% tax on all of your insurance premiums. I highly doubt that health insurance can survive that.
The "Affordable Care Act" is aptly named. Because once a health insurance is eliminated, you will only get the health care that you, personally, can afford to pay for.
There is nothing affordable or care-like in that act. I say we throw out the entire "Insurance" model and go to free market. Doubt me? What do you think food shopping would be like if you applied "Insurance Logic" to it? One, $500 per month loaf of bread? But ONLY after a Food Specialist "approves" it? 98% of all of it should be "free market" as in, American. This is the biggest socialist failure yet. Remember, Big Banks & the AIGs of the world got rich (not poorer) on your premiums. Toss the "Insurance" and buy it cheaper at retail (Walmarts, et al). It's cheaper with NO "Insurance". Try it. The ACA is the largest single tax EVER foisted on the American public.
Sandoz in a century-plus highly respectable drug company that in recent years, turned to making and marketing generics. Sands held those of us with migraines to survive the '70s with Fiorinal #3, Cafergot, Cafergot-PB, DHE-45, Bellergal-S and even Sansert. Its standards are sky-high. I always try to specific and obtain Sandoz generics fro my patients, it they don;t make EVERY generic. Sun's reputation is a lousy and Sandoz/s is excellent. I used many Sandoz generics personally and never been disappointed.
I have recently switched to the Anchen generic 300XL version of Wellbutrin, but I have noticed a very strong change in mood and general disposition. Has anyone else had this effect? I had been on the Anchen version 2 years in the past without issue, but the pharmacy had moved to another brand of generic. No issues on that version (I dont know the manufacturer), but now that I am on the Anchen version again I am having issues.
It's $ 50 per a 30 day supply through wellbutrinxl.com. Valeant pharma. Or they have a patient assistantance program. Google should be your best friend. Google it.
Suzy, depending on which pharmacy you use, you can ask them to fill your prescriptions with specific generics. Just call a day or two in advance and tell them you'd like the Actavis generic and they should have no problem doing it for you. That's what I do with my Lamictal. I always ask for the Teva generic and they have no problem ordering it for me if I give them advanced notice. It usually comes in the very next day. I use CVS, but I've heard that Walgreens will do it as well. I'm pretty sure most pharmacies will have no problem doing that for you. Best of luck and so glad you are feeling better with the Actavis generic!
You are lucky if you are only paying $20 extra for your meds I have to pay $400 for 30 pills of the brand name wellbutrin. I was one of the people who tried the generic and after 3 weeks was more depressed than I had ever been before. Does anyone know how I can make my insurance company haha Medicare to accept more of the charge due to the parents of the generic wellbutrin?
I'm on Medicare and get the name brand Wellbutrin for $50 a month thru mail order from Direct Success Pharmacy. Their phone # is 877-404-3338. It's the real Wellbutrin. The pills come in the actual Wellbutrin bottle. They will get you set up and then you will get your doctor to fax or email them the prescription. It's great! No more generics!
Direct success pharmacy look them up
There were no problems whatsoever with TEVA Budeprion XL 300 mg and TEVA Budeprion XL 150 mg for me and many others. But the FDA pulled it from the shelves anyway and forced me and many others into other generics which were disasters for us. Yet the FDA didn't pull the generics which didn't work for us from the shelves. The warning literature which came with TEVA Budeprion XL (as well as all other brand and generic forms of bupropion) specifically say to discontinue usage of that drug if it doesn't work for you. But these warnings provided by TEVA were ignored by the people who continued to use it anyway and complained to the FDA about it. The FDA had to be aware of the warnings provided by TEVA. There had to be fraud involved when the FDA pulled TEVA from the market and kept other generics on the market. I don't know what the nature of what the fraud was, but it had to be there. Otherwise, the FDA would have had to pull every generic from the market. If you take note, they didn't.
I'm sorry that you lost access to Budeprion through this whole mess. I know how much it sucks when you find something that works and it disappears. Having said that, the timeline of events doesn't suggest fraud by the FDA.
In terms of generics, Budeprion was outselling its rivals in late 2006. But within three months, a lot of adverse reports started to stream in to places like The People's Pharmacy. People were complaining of feeling suicidal and other troubling feelings. It got more and more media attention, yet the FDA dragged its feet, claiming it was all just "coincidence". Soon it was revealed that Budeprion's time release mechanism was breaking down too fast, releasing half the drug within about 4 hours. One guy even had a seizure because of this, and won a $4.5m settlement.
The FDA asked Teva to do a study on the problem, but Teva couldn't find enough participants. Eventually the FDA did its own study in 2012 and finally accepted what was being said back in 2007 i.e. that Budeprion was not bio-equivalent to Wellbutrin. That's FIVE years later. They asked the other manufacturers to do their own evaluations, which they did.
Was that unfair to Budeprion? Not really, because most of the serious complaints were specifically about that brand. I don't see how it could have stayed on the market when it was a danger to some users. As we all know, pharmacies switch generics randomly, so had it stayed, more people would have had adverse effects. The only solution was to pull it.
I can report that at least one insurance company will pay their share of the $50/month if you send in your paperwork. My ins company has a 30% co-pay for prescriptions, and I sent in my Direct Success paperwork, and last weekend a check for $35 came in the mail. Now I just need to figure out how to get them to reimburse the other $15 out of the flexible spending account.
Where do you get wellbutrin brand for $50 a month... what dosage? ??
Direct Success Pharmacy. 30 tablets. 150 mg or 300 mg. Your choice.
What country or state are you in? In nyc (yeah I know things always cost more here) I paid $400 last month for 30- 300 xl with original medicare. What are the words/numbers/and color of the pills, capsules, etc. I had a horrible experience w/ Tevas outsourced wellbutrin.
