What Is The Best Generic Of Lamictal? (Page 9)
UpdatedI've been taking the generic for Lamictal for about five years. Recently I've been feeling different at about the beginning of the year. I use to take the white ones but now I am taking a generic by Taro. What is the best generic for this drug? I never really payed any attention until I started getting this crazy migraines. If anyone has any insights it would be much appreciated.
Daughter changed to taro after teva was no longer available levels stayed the same no seizures. Now walgreens says they can't get taro anymore. Where can we get it?
Re: Fonzi (# 161)
What??? Walgreens can’t get Taro? I was taking Teva, thenTaro. I really don’t know what to try now? If the FDA didn’t allow to +20%-20 from brand. This is the root of this problem.
Re: Lisa k (# 160)
I’ve been taking lamictal for 19 years. Perhaps you and your DR need to try increasing , my guess, or decreasing. Also Incase you don't get your lamictal blood level checked, you can maybe that would help.
Re: Fonzi (# 161)
Can you try a different Walgreens? Sometimes a certain Walgreens can get a little finicky. What general area of the country are you in? I am assuming the US.
Re: Fonzi (# 161)
Costco by me stocks Taro by contract (re: that is their default brand at least in California where I am). You do NOT need to be a Costco member to use the Costco pharmacy (I think that's due to law). If you're not a member just tell the door person you're going to the pharmacy. Call ahead and ask though. You can call other pharmacies too and ask if they can get Taro for you. Say that's the only brand that works for you. Many will try to help.
Re: Cmg (# 162)
Costco by me has it by default. No membership needed for pharmacy. I would try there.
Good luck getting taro brand.
Re: Cmg (# 162)
The +20 / -20 isn't the only prob. There is crappy lamotragine and better lamotragine. Just like any other drug. All these generics are made in India now. Sadly some of the manufacturers are terrible and make poor drug using poor chemical source materials. Sure fillers bibders but also the ingredients in the lamotragine itself.....
Re: Cmg (# 162)
Walgreens special orders Taro for me. Just tell them you have a bad reaction to their other generic.
Re: Raechel (# 164)
I'm in Green Bay, WI.
Re: Fonzi (# 169)
I just tried talked to my Walgreens, as well - the ones who usually order Taro for me. They said when they went to order Taro, it was not available to order and did not have a projected date upon which it would be available. So, it may be a shortage in this area. (I'm in the Chicagoland area.) Or - and I hope this is not the case - it may be a discontinuation. I absolutely hope that's not the case.
I did call over to our local Costco and they have it in stock there. So I refilled my Rx there. You don't need a membership to get it there. Perhaps try that? It sounds like they've got a contract with them, nationwide, so they're more likely to get it, than Walgreens is going to be able to special order it.
I'm so sorry!
Just spoke directly with Taro Pharmaceuticals USA customer service, and the rep said that there is no shortage, or plans to discontinue Taro Lamotrigine, and seemed stunned that Walgreens couldn't get it. Too early for my refill, so can't say about my Texas Walgreens yet. Sure hope it's not going to be an issue, as things are going well for me with Taro after Teva was discontinued!
Re: Hope (# 171)
Hooray! Thanks for checking, Hope!! Huge relief. I'm going to *hope* ;-) that this is some temporary fluke with Walgreens... maybe just Walgreens here in the Midwest. Thanks for doing the legwork!
Re: Cmg (# 162)
have you had any experience with Torrent Brand.
I was on Teva for 10 years until Teva stopped manufacturing. I was then on Northstar manufacture and had seizures and rash and horrible side effects...so they changed me to Mylan which I loved now Walgreens can only get Torrent manufacture and NO other companies have any they are on back order. Torrent manufacture is in India. I am very scared to take it.
I guess I will call around to Walmart instead of Walgreen and see what manufactures they have or are able to get.
Has anyone had experience with Torrent brand.
I have a bottles of TEVA that are expired from a different dose way back if all else fails I will take them
The pharmacy says the lamictal issue is a mess right now
So I’m a little late to the game with the news of Teva discontinuing lamotrigine. Just found out today when my pharmacy said they couldn’t order it! Is everyone still having success with the Taro? Since the last post was in January, I’m assuming no news is good news? Thanks!
Re: Nikki (# 174)
I’ve been taking Taro since October with no issue whatsoever. Same dosage as before. My post from back then (or so) still remains true for me. My transition was 100% from Teva to Taro overnight - no tapering, so I was able to make a pretty accurate assessment for myself about the impact right away.
Walgreens ordered Taro for me for the first 4 months, then they said they were having a hard time, so I switch to Costco, which carries it as their main brand. According to Taro Pharmaceuticals, Walgreens (or any pharmacy) should have no problem ordering it directly from them if they don’t carry it in stock.
Hope that helps! I’ve been super pleased and so relieved. I was really freaked out when I heard the news about Teva. So very relieved to have found Taro and this group which helped a lot to narrow some good choices.
Re: Raechel (# 175)
That is so great Raechel! I’m glad it’s working well for you. I will keep that in mind about Costco, thank you for that information. I’ll check back in after I start to share my experience! Thanks to you and to everyone on this thread for sharing all your trial and errors, it saves so many others from discomfort and stress!
Re: Lisa k (# 160)
Taro didn’t work for me either. Switched to brand ($550) a month and felt like myself after a few days. I guess Teva was the closest to Brand
Re: Raechel (# 175)
Do you take it for seizures or bipolar depression?
Re: Nick K (# 178)
BiPolar. The people who I have been in connection with about Taro’s success were primarily using it for mood stabilization. I’m can’t say I’ve had many convos with people who were taking it for seizures.
Re: Nick K (# 177)
Teva was definitely the best. But now Tarro is discontinuing there product. I don’t know what generic to take now. Have you tried a lot of generics? Can you tell me which are worst?
