What Is The Best Generic Of Lamictal? (Page 6) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI've been taking the generic for Lamictal for about five years. Recently I've been feeling different at about the beginning of the year. I use to take the white ones but now I am taking a generic by Taro. What is the best generic for this drug? I never really payed any attention until I started getting this crazy migraines. If anyone has any insights it would be much appreciated.
Re: Cassie (# 29)
I spoke to teva and they said it arrived, but my walgreens said they could not get it yetDoes any one know if cipla would be the same as teva, since they have the same inactive ingredients?
Re: Cassie (# 29)
It has arrived!! when I checked with walgreens they said it was not available to them yet, hope within the next 2 weeks. Fonzi
Re: Cassie (# 34)
I’ve been in contact with the US Public Health, about shortage of Teva Lamotrigine. I also reported Cipla Lamotrigine last year that it made me sick to the FDA. Hyun Son is the person to contact at US Public Health. He works in the drug shortage area. He contacted Teva, but still does not have any information from them. Please contact him and Express your frustration with Teva shortage. I really need this resolved ASAP and I’m doing all I can think of.
Re: Cassie (# 34)
I just got off the phone with Teva and they are NOW saying end of February ship date. He said in March your pharmacy will have it! That’s total bs. He wouldn’t tell me why the drug's backordered. No information at all.
Re: Connie (# 35)
I just got off the phone again with Teva. They told me that there is no longer a backorder, and it began shipping on Friday, Feb 9th. I'm going to give it a couple of days and start calling Walgreens to see if they can get it from their warehouse yet. I was inquiring about the 200mg tabs - just the regular - not extended release.
Re: Cassie (# 37)
Ok. I need 150mg and Teva told me pharmacies should have in March! But i found some older bottles of it in my house. So, hopefully ill be ok. But, i might order some from Canada brand lamictal. Its about $150, compared to $480 at my local pharmacy.
Re: Connie (# 38)
Could your doctor re-write your scrip for 100mg tabs, but write it as 1-1/2 tabs/day, and figure out how many tablets that would be - for example, I believe that would be 45 tabs of 100mg for 30 days. Or write for 50mg, and take 3/day. They are scored, and break in half very easily - I also have been considering getting brand name Lamictal again, but am concerned that it would make it harder to switch back to the generic. Have you checked with Teva about availability of the 100mg or 50mg? Just trying to brainstorm here...
Re: Cassie (# 39)
My pharmacy got in a bottle of Teva for me today. Now the pharmacy can order it, so it’s no longer backordered here. But, I’m afraid there will be another backorder situation next month when I need more. This is very unsettling and I still can’t get an answer from Teva as to why this happened. Does anyone know what caused the backorder?
Re: Cassie (# 42)
It’s definitely a good thing. I felt better when I saw all the Teva bottles today. What’s odd is that when I contacted US Dept of Health, there was a backorder and when US DEPT Health contacted Teva, Teva told them there has not been any backorder and things were shipping normal.
Re: fonzi (# 25)
I spoke with Teva today and the answer is no. They are unable to give a future date.
Re: Ty (# 13)
This was helpful because I've been on teva lamotrigine it's the only one that's worked and they went out of business .
I have been on Teva lamotragine for 10 years and it works great. Recently Walgreens gave me Cipla and I had a horrible reaction!!! I felt like I had been poisoned. I was able to find some left over Teva and made me feel normal right away. Walgreens said they have alembic, has anyone tried this? I'm scared to try another generic. What a mess!!
Re: Neller (# 7)
I was recently switched by Walgreens to the Teva Lamotragine, and felt a tad anxious, as a generic by them for another medication did not work for me. I called my doctor and he said it should be fine, do I started the Teva, and over the last 2 weeks, I have been having nausea, irritability, OCD issues, and am more down, and do not feel like doing much.
I just went to Walgreen to fill my Teva lamotrigene and she said they aren’t carrying it anymore and they can’t special order it for me. My doctor specifically says “Teva brand” on my script, but she said Teva is not even carrying it. Any other people with the same problem? I have no idea what else to do, other brands I have tried made me super manic....help!
Re: Linz (# 55)
What dosage are you looking for? There was a shortage a few months ago when it was backordered, but I personally haven't had any trouble getting it at Walgreens recently. I would suggest you call Teva directly, and find out if that's true - sometimes there is miscommunication between a pharmacy and their supplier. When you call this number, there's an option to speak to a representative - I have found them to be very helpful when I've called in the past. You can also find out if there's another pharmacy in your area that carries Teva. Teva only for me also!

Re: Raechel (# 58)
Before considering extended release lamotrigine, be sure to check prices and if your insurance will cover it. It is more expensive that the lamotrigine tablets - probably why Teva discontinued the tablets, and now only manufacture the extended release. Also, the extended release doesn't come in a dosage higher than 300mg.
Hello everyone! I’m glad to have found others with similar issues I’m having and so recently. I’m also in a twist trying to decide if I should pay for another bottle of 150mg Teva brand lamotrigine while Walmart still has it in stock before going with a new generic brand now that Teva is no longer making lamotrigine! I’ve called all my local pharmacies open tonight and they are not able to order from the manufacturer anymore. Mostly the pharmacists say the genetics will work the same, just that the binders and inactive ingredients vary. I went through SO much trial and error last year, lost my job along way, and finally am only on 100mg/day without antidepressants, etc. I’m going on vacation next month and I’m scared to take something new and be completely out of it or more anxious! I’m on lamotrigine for bipolar II, no experience with name brand Lamictal either. I’ve been given Unichem through Walgreens, which is almost brand new by comparison to other lamotrigine generic manufacturers, so I’m wondering exactly how effective/low side effect it is?? Thank you!
Hello,
I had the same problem a few days ago. Walgreens no longer carrying TEVA Lamotrigine. I have been put on Alembic. Does anyone have any experience with this?
I am in the same boat, I have been on Teva for 4 years for epilepsy. I called & they have a ER but it's not made by them but a company called Actavis they bought. I've been on it for 3 weeks. Could hardly get out of bed from the dizziness which would last most of the day & the headaches were horrible. I've been looking up different manufacturers & don't know what to do. I know everybody is different as how they react to different manufacturers but so many sites people say Teva works the best. Has anyone tried Unichem? Seen a couple bad comments but not as bad as most of the others.
Re: Shannon (# 63)
I got Unichem through my Walgreens and after checking with every other pharmacy near me for leftover Teva stock I’ve decided to give Unichem a try now rather than go another 2 days without. I just took half a pill in case side effects do occur. Maybe I’m being silly, I don’t know. I wish there were an easy way to see all generics for the same name brand and compare inactive ingredients side by side. The main difference I see in these two is that Teva uses silicon dioxide and corn starch where Unichem does not. Might make a difference might not. Guess I’ll find out!
