Could this medication be the reason for my very dry and extremely itching skin?

Yes, it could be the reason for it! Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic, so it removes fluid from the body.

What dosage are you taking? You may be on too high of a dosage for you, or you may need to make sure you take in some more fluids.

I had a similar problem, when they had me on too high of a dosage of diuretics.
