Wellbutrin Xl, Suboxone And Adderall
(Newest replies first)

I started a suboxone program 6 weeks ago. My level dose is 8mg films/tid. I also take adderall ir 15mg/tid (that was prescribed by my psychiatrist, years ago). My sub dr. wants me to get off the adderall & I agree. So he’s started me on bupropion xl/150mg; which, I started today. Took it this morning, along with all my other meds.
I was told the bupropion xl works similar to adderall? As far as increasing dopamine receptors, with a slight stimulant & eventually help the brain function without using such harmful & addictive medication. As I said, I started today & I feel like I’ve been given a sedative! I can't keep my eyes open! It’s doing the opposite! My questions: Has anyone taken this combo before? Does it work? I need to know why I'm so tired?

Hi! I take both Adderall and bupropian (wellbutrin) and I really haven't had issues with sleepiness. Maybe he can prescribe a different combination. Good Luck!
I take both Wellbutrin and Adderall and I don't think they are anything alike ! Wellbutrin helps me not to have panic and anxiety attacks. Whereas Adderall gives me energy , helps me focus and think much clearer . I am also able to plan out my day and more easily get things done .

I'm not certain what in your life has caused you to begin a suboxone program, I can simply assume the usual. Congratulations if you are cleaning yourself up. Suboxone can, when there is a lack of built up tolerance make you incredibly drowsy. To the point of nodding in and out, this is a very possible side effect whether ingesting a low mg of amphetamines or not on top of wellbutrin. Wellbutrin certainly in the long run can help you in the areas affected from no longer taking amphetamines, however it won't give you the same boost. Many doctors prescribe wellbutrin along with Effexor due to the lack of serotonin levels and epinephrine naturally in your brain from long use of amphetamines.
Just remember you can never have or ask too many questions when it comes to Doctors and following up with research of your own is always good. Not all Doctors are in the profession for the right reasons and can be glorified drug dealers out for the money. Pharmaceutical companies pay doctors to prescribe their medication over another.
Overall, everything seems normal.

That's the truth. I was put on suboxone when I was going through a 20 A day Norco habit and it took a few days to not be "high" anymore, jus mood lift, and makes life feel regular, no depression, no anxiety.....give it 4 days. I promise it's a miracle.....
Wellbutrin is sometimes used ofl label to treat hyperactivity and distractibility in those with ADHD.
It will take you a long time to get used to not having the Adderall in your system. Chances are Wellbutrin will not help you in the same ways Adderall did.. Wellbutrin does not contain any stimulants.
Re: Candy (# 4)
Brandon, candy is on the money. your getting extra dopamine, which in excess will eventually make u sleepy. u will get tolerant to it...im on a similar med regiment. Hang in there. u will be ok. take it at the regular time and the correct amount. God bless.
You are coming off amphetamine and will feel tired and sluggish for weeks probably.
The replacement meds will take longer to kick in and won't give you the lift adderal gives. If you have been on it for years you will need a lot of support maybe even NA.
Re: Brandon (# 1)
If you are also taking Suboxone, a form of opiate, I would consider the possibility that - taking it together with the Wellbutrin is the reason for the sedative effect. ? maybe?
I would call the pharmacist and ask if this is a normal side effect. It probably is. Everyone adjusts to medication differently.
There is no planet on which bupropion works like Adderall - apples and oranges. Still adding bupropion as part of and after an Adderall taper is a perfectly good call. You may feel sedated/tired for a week or two due to the new med. You may also feel tired as a result of tapering the powerful stimulant you have been taking. You system will take months to recalibrate from Adderall discontinuation- give it time.
I've been on wellbutrin for awhile now intake 2 250mg a day it really helps with depression but for increase in dopamine levels I agree it takes about a full week for it to kick in and everyday make shure you take them same time everyday and go to your doctor and tell him you still are depressed and not happy and they will raise the dosage that is what worked well for me
