Weight Gain On Pristiq? (Page 28)

I have been on Pristiq now since November of 2008...not quite 5 months...and I have put on 15 lbs since starting it. DESPITE working out with a trainer at the gym twice a week weight training, 3 days a week of cardio AND counting calories. My doc assured me that I would also have a decreased appetite on Pristiq, which I have yet to find true...so he has now increased my dosage to 400 mg. Does anyone have anything to add to this?? I'm just frustrated!

Ask doc to add a stimulant it helps

Hi. I have been on Pristique 6 months now. Starting from 50mg I went up to 150mg. 150mg drove me insane and triggered me with myofascial pain especially TMJ. TMJ is so severe my facial structure looks different and looks double the size with fluid retention. have quit my job since and have reached a new rock bottom. I have always been a petite person weighing around 50kg all my adult life. I have two children and have never had weight issue. A have gained 15kg in less than 6 months. All the weight around my back and belly area. Never been this heavy. Pristique has given me a feel good state of mind but robbed me of my physical appearance.
I wish I could get off these meds, but I simply dont want to feel miserable and suicidal. Peace to all of us!

I have been on Pristiq for 5 or more years I never gained a pound. If I DO gain weight (and I fluctuate about 10 pounds) it is because I got into bad eating habits. And soon as I begin to eat healthy again I lose any weight I gain. It does not make me crave sugar. I suggest if you're getting sugar cravings it's not the right drug for you. Cymbalta gave me sugar cravings so I went off of it. Also sometimes the first week a medication can give you sugar cravings or increase your appetite but that can level off once you're used to it. But if any medicine gives you constant cravings then I guess you shouldn't take it.

I too have been put on pristiq and have noticed although exercising and trying to eat well, I am binge eating and have gained almost 30 lbs. I was on abilify before and it had me hungry all the time and I gained like I am now. Going to call my doctor tomorrow

I can't tell you how many times I have been asked if I was pregnant. Since Pristiq, I am always bloated and swollen in my hands. Weight gain is about 30ish pounds. After reading this feed, I am convinced these issues could be Pristiq. HOLY momma! I have been in tears for 2 years. I just keep GROWING larger and nothing but maternity clothes fit me...not pregnant either. This has been the longest pregnancy! Seriously, it feels like one!!! Can't fit clothes around my mid section, swollen, can't bend in half...grrrr. Currently, my PCP and I decided to have me come off the medication, and that too is a nightmare. I can't wait for this to end. I pray I succeed in weight loss after I am off Pristiq, since it seems a lot have been struggling postPristiq.

I'm on Pristique 100 mg and I have binge eating, I'm hungry all the time, I've gained 30 lbs total and I don't know what to do now :( I wouldn't say raising the mg is the solution. I see my psych tomorrow going to ask her opinion.

I was on 150mg of pristiq I did not eat just vommiting a lot and feeling sick all the time .i got down to 69kg about 5 weeks ago I decided to quit cold turkey not under doctors order but I fell lot better. Anything I eat now It won't make me full I eat 5-6 times a day every 2-hrs my weight is now 83.5kg errrr

I have been on anti depressants for years from Nardil , to Effexor , now on pristiq
For 4 years it works and I did not gain any weight.whatever gets you through this life.
Suffered from anxiety disorder ,panic attacks pristiq works for me

I tried everything to lose weight as well. The military diet has worked for me. I am finally getting results after 10 years. I love Pristiq for my depression. It saved my life. You may find the military diet online. Just google it. Hope this helps.

On pristiq for 5 months...: I have excessive sweating of my head. Anyone develops this problem with this drug? Also I feel it is the cause of my high blood pressure

I'm in the very same boat as you. I was only on it for 4month or so... I ballooned up almost 20 pounds when I stopped taking it.

I haven't changed anything in my workout routine or Diet and I'm back up to my post pregnancy weight. I really hope that this wieght is easy to shed and doesn't keep stacking on

I've been on pristiq for about 3 years. Some background information I have hypothyroidism as well as chronic fatigue syndrome. I have gained about 30 lbs ... I'm only 5'1, so this is a lot! I eat as I always used to had before, never had any weight problems. I have already tried antidepressants from every group even MAOIs as well as ECT with no luck, pristiq seems a bit better than the others but not much difference... Any ideas?

Depends on person whether you have weight gain or not. I was on Prozac for 1 yr and gained 65lbs. My Dr switched me to Pristiq and I'm only on day 4 but, I don't crave pop, chocolate, or any other junk food like I did with Prozac. I actually don't have much of an appetite. Ppl are all different, depends our body's.

I HAVE NO APPETITE AT ALL I FEEL SICK IF I EAT FOOD. IVE LOST ABOUT 15 POUNDS SINCE I BEEN TAKING IT. I FEEL LIKE IM IN A FOG AND SLEEPY.

I had the same issue... Figured out it was because I was taking a generic brand instead of the name brand... Check with your doctor...but this can be the issue

I was on Effexor and it honestly helped my anxiety and depression so much. BUT, I gained 10lbs in two weeks. After I was switched to Wellbutrin, the weight fell off but I am angry/irritable and emotional all of the time. My doctor suggested Pristiq. I know it’s similar to Effexor but any idea if I'd also gain weight on Pristiq? I read it’s the “metabolite” of Effexor. Effexor did not make me gain weight because I ate more. I actually had a decreased appetite, but it slowed my metabolism down a lot. Is it possible since Pristiq is what Effexor metabolizes into; I may not gain weight?
