We Are The Forgotten We Are Chronic Pain Sufferers (Top voted first)
UpdatedUnfortunately all the Politicians talk about is the abuse of Pain drugs, they are not concerned with the folks that take and need these meds for real pain issues from real medical diagnosis. There's so many junkies out there seeking drugs to "feel good" just wanting to find a way to feel high. Well they have ruined it for all of us who truly need the meds for medical reasons, we are the forgotten.
In my Ehlers Danlos Groups many Pain patients are finding it harder to find doctors who want to prescribe narcotics due to all the extra regulatory challenges. Pain Management Doctors don't hardly want to prescribe pain meds either, mainly pushing their $1500 steroid shots which are contradictive to anyone with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and those injections actually hurt a lot of people worse in the long run and do absolutely nothing for many of us in pain but the "Pain Management Doctors" are making money so who cares! We keep seeing more suicides from EDS patients in our groups because they aren't being helped, their pain isn't being controlled to the point they would rather commit suicide. It's sad, who advocates for us? The government is so busy taking access to these medications away from that "bad guys" that they're forgetting about us "good guys" who aren't abusing any meds and need these meds to live, not feel high. What can we do? More and more pain patients aren't getting help getting meds so they are having to seek street meds just to live. The government wonders why illicit drugs are coming back and why many of the newest users of them are actually Pain Management Patients who aren't getting help anymore with their pain and were taken cold turkey off all of their pain meds, muscle relaxers, nerve pain meds, that's Hell. Come on Folks, it's obvious to me whats going on, collectively what can the little people do against big government?

I TOTALLY AGREE. I have chronic pain because of a underlying chronic blood disorder that causes blood clots. I am having a very hard time finding a GOOD DR who won't take one look at my (30 years worth of) allergies and IMMEDIATELY label me a " drug seeker " or tell me there is " nothing more they can offer me because of my past narcotics abuse " REALLY??? It wasn't MY choice to be sick or to have so many allergies. I am SERIOUSLY considering going to another state to try to get help. I currently live in SC, but am considering NC., or GA. Any suggestions??
Hello EDS Traveling Gal,
I'm really sorry to hear that the system in place has put you in such a terrible bind. What you say has truth to it, the government is really cracking the whip on narcotics and laying a heavy hand on the doctors who previously were comfortable prescribing these medications.
I haven't done too much research on this subject but from the bit of research I have done I found is that doctors are simply being held to a higher level of responsibility on who they prescribe narcotic medication to and that in order to justify the perscriptions they write they must have tangible evidence to support their decision. This puts the doctors in a tight spot when it comes to injuries that are very real but difficult to prove, such as brain or back injuries. While the doctor can prove the patient is in pain and that they have a condition they simply can't provide enough evidence to prove that the patient is in severe enough pain to justify high level narcotics.
Truthfully this is a divided subject for me. On one had I really believe that the narcotics abuse has gotten out of hand, which may be a bias opinion as the location that I live is known for abusing these types of medication. On the other hand I do feel that people like you have fallen through the cracks and that simply because your numbers aren't great enough they haven't taken action to help and that infuriates me.
I will be the first to admit that I don't have a better option or really even any kind of suggestion to improve this situation but I hope somewhere out there that there is a much smarter person with a deep compassion working on a solution for the victims of this situation. Stay strong and I wish you the best.
