Way Too Much Dilaudid

Hello everyone, Currently i am prescribed 16mg orally of dilaudid every 3-4 hours. I have just begun my 1st day of weaning myself off by cutting down to 14 mg for this next whole week, with the help of valium. I will continue to cut down like this until the last dose. Now i understand that this is an extremely high dose but im focusing on getting off of it and not worrying about how i got on it. The reason it got so high was because i have this chronic severe chest pain that after 4 1/2 months they have been unable to find a reason for the pain. Last week in the hospital i was in so much pain and and didnt know why until i found out that some idiot dr. cut my dilaudid dose in half, so i was screaming and pain and going through severe withdrawl. I know i have a long tough road ahead of me. Not to metion im on 100mg fentanyl patch. Anyways can anyone offer any advice on how to beat this addicting drug? its gotten to the point where i dread taking my medication everyday

I looked up some withdrawal guidelines for Dilaudid which mention:
"If you have used Dilaudid for more than a few weeks, do not stop taking it without first checking with your doctor. Suddenly stopping this medicine may cause severe withdrawal side effects. Your doctor will gradually taper your dosage before stopping completely.

To avoid severe withdrawal, regular Dilaudid users must taper down slowly under a knowledgeable physician’s care, or, enter a detox center for 24/7 treatment. With a moderate to severe addiction from relatively long term use, an in patient detox in a hospital or medical supervised setting is highly recommended for its multi- disciplinary approach. Dependence resulting from even a few weeks of regular use can usually be handled under a physician’s supervision with minimal discomfort. Treatment will ultimately depend on the degree of addiction."

I know this is pretty standard information, but from my perspective it would really be a wise choice to pursue one of the 24/7 detox centers. This option will help take the stress and worry out of wondering if you're ever going to get off the medication on your own will power.

Does anyone else have any personal experience with this?
