Watson 853 And Quality Assurance
UpdatedI recently got a rx refill of white watsons imprint 853 on them and a few people have told me these are bad quality! They said if they break easily and taste like chalk they are counterfeit!? They made my dad real sick!
Yes got some in my script a few days ago break easily and doesn't desolve in water
@Boo,
Watson 853 is actually reported to be a legitimate medication made by Watson Pharmaceuticals (now known as Actavis). So as long as your doctor prescribed them I wouldn't necessarily question their legitimacy. The idea about them coming off as being fake is quite common though, ever since Actavis changed the formula from the original yellow version.
They say that only the yellow dye was removed, but this clearly isn't the case when countless other patients have reported their ineffectiveness. Now these particular 10/325 tabs are frequently referred to as placebo pills (inducing withdrawal in patients who are used to taking higher quality pain medication).
I think for future reference, your best bet may be to ask the doctor to write a prescription for a specific brand other than Actavis and see how it works in comparison.
I hope your dad feels better soon!
The information shown "here" was posted on February 9th, 2015 and more than likely coincides with what you are experiencing. I would suggest flushing the pills down your toilet or returning them to the "pharmacist" who dispensed them to you.
So I have a bunch of these too. They disintegrate into chalk in your mouth and they taste different. I also got a splitting headache from the little I did swallow. I'm just not sure if it was anxiety or the pills. I got them illicitly so I'm guessing they're fake. And, it seems there's more floating around so cal. Met two others with the same ones. The imprint is really good but uneven when you compare to a real one. Scared of them so they sit unused. Any idea how to test? I've had the usual hard white ones but these are softer. Did Activus change binding agents? Any light to shed?
Buy a drug panel kit, dissolve the pill in water and pour a sample into the opiate section. If it comes back positive for opiates you know that they are real.
A friend found the same. They break easily. They are chipped around the edges. I've also noticed the 3 in 853 is different. On the real ones, the 3 is rounded on the top and bottom. The fake ones are straight
I got them yesterday. wtf are in these?
They check for metabolites not drugs, and Norco metabolized into hydromorphone which isn't in a normal 5 panel evaluation.
Wat of they don't break by just pressing hard are they still fake Watson 349
Hi I just take a support to be a 853 pill as waston and I don't feel a then I hurt my legs about 2 year so the doctor put me on the and they all way take the pain away but it been a hour now and I don't think they are real want should I do
Where can you buy a drug panel kit to check them? Someone said to do this in a response.
I got 10 from my girlfriend and they were white has Watson 853 on them and I didn't feel nothing they didn't help my pain or anything can you tell me what this is it was alright
My wife took some and when she chewed them they were very soft unlike a real hydrocodone and they did absolutely nothing for her. Another friend of mine said that there were fake Watson 853 going around Niagara Falls. I have been dealing with pills for over 20 years and I thought something was up when I saw how thin they were, but they have changed color shapes letters numbers and looks over the years so I was not sure at first and I was fooled because pill identifiers had them on there so the fake looks almost identical to the real ones. Be careful out there on where you spend your money. This goes to show how pathetic and sorry some people really are.
Well this just happened to me yesterday I got them from a family member but later I got a call from his wife stating that her husband best friend made a mold of the Watson 853 and put aspirin and something else in it the copied the pill so warning everyone there is fake ones going around
Although thats a good idea to check them with a drug panel kit, I have heard that the fake ones are mixed with fentanyl, heroin, or both. In this case they will turn up positive since both of these are opioids.
Did it taste like anything? Or just taste like chalk? Did they end up being real or fake?
Yes, the belief that these Watson 853 pills are fake is completely true. I got mine from a pharmacy I have been using for over a year and trust. When I picked up my Rx it was still in the original bottle that they come in from the pharmacy warehouse. I thought was kind of strange. I get kidney stones about 3 times a month and easy in great pain when I got these. I usually take 2 at a time because one doesn't help. And nothing happened. So I waited awhile and took 2 more. Still nothing. So I waited til the next day and took 2 more and nothing, but a sick feeling and no pain relief. So I called the pharmacy and asked if they were fake and the girl put the phone down to ask head pharmacist about them and he said they were fine...I just built a tolerance. Bull crap. So I just got my next script from a diffrent pharmacy and instant relief. I believe the government needs to step in and check on this. You are playing with people's livessels and pain they go through everyday. So to ease other people's mind....yes they are fake. So I would advise to ask Dr to write the rx for qualitest pills or check your rx before you leave aND if they are 853 give them back.
For anyone that would like to test the actual pill...They have a test kit you can buy at Walgreens that tests any substance. You may have to crush up the pill to a powder to do the test but it'll tell you if it's a real opiate or not, or what it is drug wise. I hope this helps...
Give ya all some advice here, there are tons of fake opioids floating around in the word today, Mexico is making dangerous m366's out of phetnol or however you spell it, which can kill you. And millions of Watson 853 pills, the indicators on the Watson 853's is rather simple. There's a checklist I like to refer to:
Fakes are bigger then real, turn them on their sides and compare, you'll see how much bigger and oddly shaped the fakes are.
Check the O letter in Watson. If it's spaced too far from the S and strangely close to the N it's fake. Or if the O has a blemish on it.
And lastly, the most fool proof method there is. Break it in half, if it crumbles or breaks easy it's fake or really old. Finally, take out your cell phone flashlight and shine it directly on the broken in half part of the pills, wiggle it back n forth to different angles and if you see a really slight sparkle like glitter, that is the hydrocodone signifying it's real. If you don't see any sparkle, you've got a fake.
But if it were laced with any of those, you would get some sort of feeling out of it.

I agree with you and much of what you said. I would like to say that I had a discussion with my pharmacist who laughed at me when I told him that the Mallinckrodt pills did not help my pain at all and they make my stomach hurt real bad as if it's aspirin and not Tylenol! he popped off and said well should I try one and see? I looked at him horrified and said no absolutely not that's not what I'm suggesting! decided that it was no use to waste anymore time with him discussing this!
Re: Ole town boy (# 19)
Wow! Thanks for that brilliant advise, OTB! You're right about the sparkle. When you shine a light on the broken piece it'll sparkle just a bit. I just had a tooth pulled and had to check the pills they prescribed. Glad to see they're real ;)
Re: Tink (# 1)
Are they real or not I just got some and hey break super easy and taste like chalk
Re: Tink (# 32)
These fake Lortabs y'all getting are more than likely potassium pills. People will use a press to get the print on there. That's the chalky taste comes from. I got some fake 853 one time and had some potassium pills laying around. They look just like that potassium pills exactly like them. The reason the edges crumble is from the press. People who getting them from the pharmacy I bet it's somebody who works there is trading them out for the real ones. Really can't trust people these days when it comes to anything anymore. Just look up white or yellow potassium pills see for yourself.
Re: Ole town boy (# 19)
Yeah I'm having the same problem these white ones are actually smaller they're very soft and they're not crystally and I don't think there's anything we can do is there? I also have these and they just don't look the same they're very soft and powdery as opposed to the other ones that are hard and they don't have the same effect they don't last they don't take away the pain I mean is there anything we can do with these 853 besides going to a pharmacist or the doctor I mean can they do anything besides change the scripts what is there for us to do to get the ones that were supposed to get

The pharmacy I use here in Knoxville Tn. gives out the Watson version, so when I complained they got a different brand and this one had M 356 on it. They were okay. The last script I filled they gave out Watson, may as well take an M & M for pain. Lots of posts complaining about the Watson 853 10 mg.
How do you test a Watson 853 for quality assurance? At-home test? Can someone please show me a picture of a real one?

Wat would it taste like I had some taste like a different meds
