I found 2 blue oval shaped watson 540 pills in my sons room several months ago. What are they used for?

For those with chronic pain, if you need something in an addition to or to slow down on pharmacuticles try medicinal marijuana. It works for many of the issues I am seeing here. As for your child you, should see this as a warning sign and have a serious discussion with him.

I hate the people on here who put others down. Calling them idiots and ignorant. Those same people are either idiots or ignorant in some aspect of their life. We all have our downfalls and the judging makes it no better. Live your life how you see fit and leave everyone else alone... TO EACH THEIR OWN.

Actually, everyone who has said " oh people who abuse them are just idiots..." ARE WRONG! My grandmother & my cousin both started taking hydrocodone because of rheumatoid arthritis & back surgery. My cousin had her rotator cuff messed up severely in a car accident. Everyone starts out taking them for "pain" . & I'm so sick of people saying " oh I'm prescribed 4 a day, & I take them like I'm supposed to so im not addicted" bulls***! If you ever didn't have them for some reason, you would be having withdrawals for sure! It always starts out innocently, but you do develop a dependence on them & you can't help it because your in actual pain. & , most of the time, you don't realize your actually addicted until you already too far into it! A doctor will tell you that addiction is a disease . No one normal WANTS to go through withdrawal & being an addict!

It pains me to hear your story. I won't go into how or even why I understand it, your pain that is to say. But I do, and you need to know that there's nothing wrong with seeking help. Iv'e been clean from Oxycontin for three years now. I went through it alone, but not completely considering the care from my Doctor and support group. I went through the Bupremorphine treatment and it saved my life. I am me again, and succeeding in my Collegic studies, and at work. Don't let all of the chatter detere your mission. The worst part about the whole thing is the fear of the unknown. God bless and stay strong, and above all please remember your not alone.

KS, I completely agree with you about the fact that addicts are making almost impossible for people that need pain killers, to get them. I have been in chronic pain for the last 12 years and I have had to jump through so many hoops to finally get 5/325 hydrocodone. I know this is going to sound crazy, but I call them "MY GOD." They gave me back some quality of life. Before them, I couldn't do anything including playing with the kids and doing basic household chores. It makes me so mad that doctors are so reluctant to sign a script for someone that truly needs these, while some will give them to someone that just wants to get high. Not only that, my doctors all had medical proof that I was not faking it. I've also seen a couple people go through withdrawals from opioids and I thought they were going to die. It's not something to abuse at any rate. They told me it was like having the flu horribly, a horrible cold, and pain like child birth. Scary!

honestly if a person has an addictive personality then its easy to get addicted to anything and i mean anything even lipstick, so before you say they choose to be realize nobody chooses to be an addict.

I agree with D, these are very addictive!!! I had an accident 6 years ago, where I broke my ankle, then got a DVT, which landed me on my death bed and 2 surgeries. I started taking the meds in 06 because of the pain in my leg and horrible back pain. I've tried to get my doc to get me off of them. After about 2 years, Istopped taking them and got really sick, thought it was the flu,so went to my doc and told him I had stopped, he advised I was going through withdrawals!! He suggested I continue to take for the pain and believe me,it took the withdrawal symtoms away immediately! He then suggests I see pain mgmt, and that doctor prescribes morphine!!! idiots!! I'm sticking with these, they help and I only take the recommended dosage! will not stop taking them unless I have some help from the withdrawals!

My family physician changed my prescription from vicoprofen to hydrocodone/APAP 10/500 for severe back pain. I was diagned with degenerative disc disease at 28 y/o and have developed severe muscle spasms and pain radiating into my left left. An MRI revealed bulging disks, decreased disk space, degenerative disc disease and a lot of other stuff in the lumbar, thoracic and cervical spines. I also had gastric bypass surgery 3 years and have to monitor what I take. Motrin was always my drug of choice, but I'm not supposed to take that anymore because of the irritation to the stomach lining. When I took my prescription to the pharmacy, they asked me if I wanted blue or pink pills. I had a dumb, blank look on my face because I have no idea why they asked that. The tech told me to just pick one, so I told her to pick one for me because I didn't know what the heck she was talking about. What is the difference?

Jay...may not make sense to us but there is a method to the madness. He's switching u to a single derivative..it'll b easier to control ur decline and what ur taking

Way to go KS !!!

I myself have had spine issues and surgeries for goin on 11 years now, leading up to surgery, they were givin me Hydrocodone 5/500.

After the surgery they bumped me up to 7.5/500's, and about a year or so they upped me to 10/500 (8 a day).

Again, a couple years later of taking 10/500's, they just wer'nt doin the job and did not sufficiently help alleviate the pain, so I was admitted to Albany (NY) Medical Hospital, so they could adjust my medication to a regimin that WOULD be sufficient.

I ended up being discharged, now taking Percocet 10/500 (8 a day) and Morphine Sulphate 30mg IR (Instant Release) (4 a day).

The Percocet is 3 times stronger than Hydrocodone, but basicly the same thing.

Anyway, durning my ongoing battle with spine pain, and NEEDING the medication. I have personally found that YES these medications ARE VERY addictive.

I base this on the fact that I occassionally run out every now and then and and feel the withdrawl VERY badly until I am able to see my primary doctor and once again get my scripts!! And although the withdrawl IS VERY VERY bad, I honestly CAN tell the difference between withdrawl pain and my ongoing spine pain!!!

And I try to tell the doctors this, and they seemingly do not believe me, but rather look at me as if I am just trying to get drugs!!! It is VERY frustrating.And I am SURE they look at me this way due to all the morons coming in in the hospital for a stubbed toe just to try to get some pain meds...its sad, very vey sad, because as you said, it affects those of us who LEGITAMATLY NEED these medications,!!!

Anyway, atleast there ARE a few doctors out there that realize this and ARE willing to help, I pray to God not only to guide doctors in the right direcion, but to have compassion for those of us TRUELY needing thier help !

To all otheres going though spine issues, chin up guys...keep pluggin away !

"2gr8kds is absolutely right, TAKE ALL PRESCRIPTION DRUGS AS DIRECTED BY YOUR DOCTOR and you won't become addictedl" Key words, "BY YOUR DOCTOR!" Follow directions and don't mess it up for the people who really need this medicine for pain, not to get "high"!

I am one of those people who suffer from chronic pain.I have djd and lupis, bulging discs, and I am having serious problems getting my pain medication since my doctor left the hospital. I hate that there are people abusing these medications it makes it really hard on those of us who need it. Five years and no addictions.

Wow... There are a lot of horror stories here. I got into a car accident a couple years ago... Severe break on my left femur and a clean one on my right femur. Broke my ulna and radius on my left arm, and separated my collarbone from my shoulder. When the paramedics pulled me out of the car, they said I was dead for 30 seconds due to shock. After I got to the hospital, they put a titanium rod in each of my legs, and plates in my arm. A couple of days later I suffocated from a fatty embolism. Got out of the hospital taking 16 perc 10s and 3 somas per day. After a couple of months, I was walking around again, with a limp. So they bumped me down to the 10 mg lortabs. After four months I voluntarily stopped taking them. Sure, I went through withdrawal and I do go through days wishing the pain would go away but its still manageable with otc drugs. IMO, 70% of the medicine prescribed by doctors is for a patient who doesn't need them but is dependent And/or addicted to them. I'm happy doctors are getting a bit more strict but they should first identify who truly needs the medication or not.... Not just screw the people without insurance or the ones who do need the medication and are NOT addicted but are still dependent.

All opiates are addictive. And they are used for moderate to severe pain .

To Kim : I know you're lying. You have nothing wrong with you. You probably started out using them to party. The "pain" you supposedly have is the withdrawal pain. You are going to have to realize that its going to take going through detoxing and TIME to rebuild the receptors in your brain. Knowing you I would also suggest an anti depressent. I pray for you all the time.

I know exactly what big d is talking about. I had a double anal fistula that got really really bad. At first I thought I was having hemroids or something. Never heard of a fistula before in my life. I went to 3 or 4 doctors. And the only thing they ever did was per scribe some pain medicine and send me on my way. I have to work everyday and I became dependant in this pain medication to get me up and going every morning. My infection eventually got to bad to ignore any more and the meds were not helping the pain anymore. I was taking about 6 or 7 a day. I finally seen a specialist and found out about the fistulas. I had to have 3 surgeries to cut the infection out. I would not wish any of those surgeries On anyone not even my worst enemy. But it fixed my problem. I have 4 tubes inserted in me and though it is a little uncomfortable at times. It is never what pain i was dealing with on a daily basis. My problem now is quitting the pain medicine. You can become addicted to this medicine if you keep taking it an try to mask your problem with it. And when you try to just stop taking it all at once it was worse then the pain. I am trying hard to ween my self off. Could use some suggestions.

I disagree about these being addictive only if you choose to let them be. I know from experience and from friends friends or family with similar experiences that most people addicted to pain medication DID NOT wake up one day and decide they wanted to become dependent on narcotics. I am not saying all people dependent on pills got there by accident either. Repeated surgeries or recurring severe pain that doctors cannot determine the cause play a huge factor. The are definitely ways to try and avoid using these types of medications but sometimes it's inevitable. I am so very tired of reading that people addicted to narcotics are weak or junkies. Even plenty of doctors tell patients ways to avoid addiction but ultimately advice the patient of the risks associated. I had an aunt that died of breast cancer, she was in her 70's and in severe pain. She was addicted to pain meds but from all the messages here she was just a drug seeking junkie.

Sounds like Xanax. It is a anti-anxiety medicine. Kids sometimes abuse them for some sort of a high.
