I HAVE GAINED 27 POUNDS IN 3 MONTHS. WHAT CAN I DO OTHER THAN STOP TAKING LYRICA? SHOULD I QUIT OR LOWER THE DOSAGE? I TAKE 2 DOSES PER DAY.
Hi Tina - Yes I am love. Really annoys me when I get uneducated answers to a problem no-one could possibly understand or fathom unless they have lived or are living through it. Good luck and let me know if you come across any new info at anytime, as I said I have been off it for 3+ years and still cant get ride of my 'spare tyre'.
Tammy I hope you are also replying to JK123 not me because I agree with you. I do believe it causes weight gain. I only holding it off be exercising 7 days a week and severely reducing calories. The far in the mid section is a reality and it is depressing.
I JUST STARTED LYRICA 50 MG 3 X DAY FOR FIBROMAYALGIA. I HAVE GAINED 4 POUNDS IN ONE MONTH. I EAT MORE THAN BEFORE. I CAN'T FIT IN ANY OF MY OLD JEANS. I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN THIN AND FIT SO ALL THIS WEIGHT IS MAKING ME DEPRESSED ON TOP OF THE DEPRESSION I ALREADY HAD BECAUSE OF THE FIBROMYALGIA. I NOTICED PAIN RELIEF WITHIN THE FIRST WEEK. SO I KNOW IT IS HELPING. BUT, WILL THE WEIGHT GAIN STOP. I CAN'T GAIN 4 POUNDS A MONTH. I AM 5'5 AND ALREADY WEIGH 132 POUNDS.
Really - then how do u explain the fact that I stopped taking ur over 3.5 years ago and still haven't lost the weight that I put on literally over night. Before taking the Lyrics I NEVER had a mid section or spare tyre from under my breasts to the top on my pubice area, yet I have it now - infact after my 2 children I was the smaller than before I had them
I tend to agree with the other post and say it is VERY presumptuios of you as a lame person with no medical or bio chemical knowledge to put your view forward as fact.
You are are one of the very few lucky ones ...... Unfortunately the proof is in the pudding and not everyone on a ratio of 1:1000, with the high end being people with very real and unexplainable weight gain since taken Lyrics can be wring.
Until you do experience what we have and know how it feels and how frustrating it is to know u haven't changed anything that you did prior to taking it and you are blessed to be that 1 in the ratio - I propose you count your blessing and leave your unjustified, egotistical, self absorbed options to yourself!
Just one question ...... If u say Lyrica hasn't affected you adversely, then why are you even reading or following these sites???? Or do you just like to give an opinion where its really not needed or wanted because you can?
What is your background? Do you have a medical background to base your opinions on? I haven't gained weight because I have exercised and watch what I eat but I am not a rep from the pharmacy company nor am I a doctor so I don't think I am qualified to weigh in on this issue. I wonder it you are?
Lyrica does not slow down your metabolism, as some people on this forum are claiming. You can gain weight while on Lyrica because you are eating more, or too much. And that's it. Lyrica increases the appetite significantly, you don't feel full like you normally would. I'm not sure chemically why this happens, but it just does. So others claims about it affecting the bodies chemical balance/metabolism are all crap. Just don't eat so much and you won't gain the weight. I know this because I take it myself.
I couldn't agree more - and I stopped taking Lyrica 3.5 years agao and still have
THE MIDDLE TRUNK - it just squats there!!!
Not one solution or reason from the company that made it or the med boards that approved it.
Noooo you'll gain even more weight like me!
I actually have lost weight with no dieting or much exercise using wellbutrin with Lyrica!
I absolutely gained 35 lbs in two months time. I maintain a dose of 150mg x 2 day. I get by this way but would feel better with the noon dose. Because of rapid weight gain, I wanted to cut back. It is so difficult and embarrasing to add being huge mid section area after 51 years at a healthy weight. I take for a pletura of conditions, neuropathy, fibromyalgia, Chronic. Fatigue Syndrome to name a few. I take cymbalta, and many other prescriptions. So believe me there is no help in taking cymbalta to eliminate the weight gain. What I have done is create a diet for myself which sems to be working; no carbs or sugar, lots of green vegetables, fruits, nuts, lean meats, fish. Lots of water and decaf green tea. I get full as you can snack on vegetables anytime! No promises but its been 7 full days of eating this way and 7 pounds off. Im surprised but happy. Now pray it continues, pain on joints bad enough without the extra weight. I started aqua therapy 30 minutes twice a week less than two weeks ago, gone three times. I encourage that for anyone that hurts even when I know how hard it is to make the effort. I hope this helps you too!
Thank you for your positive message. I take 300 mm Lyrica and it has really helped my pain. I gained 12 lbs. because I was always hungry. I am determined to control my weight gain by walking and watching what I eat. I will lose 10lbs. by the time I see my doctor April 9th. She set the goal at 5lbs. So we are working together to decrease my weight and lower my cholesterol. Will let you know how it goes.
Gabapentin is not the same as Lyrica. Lyrica is stronger. I've had Gabapentin before and it didn't make me gain any weight either. Im going to try it again, but last time I had it, it didn't work for my pain.
I'm a Lyrica fatso too and need it (so it says) for pain. Is there a substitute for Lrica that may work in my case. Ihave non-diabetic nerve pain in my feet and legs and back pain from a skiing accident. I want to be skinny and fit again, but I'm 86 now and exercise is difficult. Any suggestions ... I really hope there's a way out of this mess.
I have been taking 150 mm Lyrica twice a day for three months now and I have gained 12 lbs. I don't have puffy fingers and feet. I sleep like a baby and I can manage my pain. I have been indulging in ice cream, cake and large helpings of the main course. I gained the weight because I ate too much. Now that I know what can happen, I had better get back to a normal diet. I walk my puppy three times a day, but that isn't going to get rid of the belly fat .
I stumbled across this thread because I have been having blurred vision and was looking to see if this may be a side effect of taking gabapentin. I was shocked to find so many people with complaints of weight gain. I have been on 300mg of gabapentin three times a day for three months and have not experienced any weight gain. I guess it just depends on how the drug affects your individual body.
Has anyone seen their glucose or Ac1 reading go way up on since being on Lyrica?
It will take some time, but it will come off. Investigate every way to boost your metabolism, since Lyrica lowers it to nothing. Try going vegetarian for awhile. Eat tons of veggies with I Cant Believe it's not butter Spray (no calories, tastes like butter). You'll raise your metabolism by exercising 30 minutes a day, rain.or shine. Swim, walk, whatever your body can stand. It's not forever, just commit until you've lost the weight.
I am currently weaning off Lyrica. The schedule the doctor set was too fast and I almost lost what stability I have left. I slowed it down on my own and the going is much better. Does anyone have any input into how hard it will be to lose the 50+ pounds I've gained?
Response to Yuck message: I couldnt have written a better post either! I 1000% agree and I think we ALL would love a magic recipe to zap Lyrica weight gain. I have gained 45lbs in 6months. Im heavier than I was at 9 months Pregnant :( Lyrica Does NOT mess with your appetite. Or not mine anyway. I have eaten less, work out more and have still gained so much weight. Anyone out there that knows something all of us don't? I got off of it and lost the weight, but the withdrawals were horrible.
Good Idea about tapering off !!!! :) I think I will ask my Doctor about doing this for me too. I don't feel good on this stuff mentally, but it takes my pain away, maybe I will look into other ways for my pain like, Chronic Pain Classes, Acupuncture, etc There has to be something else...Happy New Year, and TKS for replying so quickly :)
