I took Lyrica for 5 years. I did not eat more after starting Lyrica but I did gain weight. It took me a year to loose the weight without any calorie restriction. For me the weight came off slowly without dieting.

Just started lyrica 50 mg was told to take it 3times a day. I only take it when the pain is unbearable and one is my limit! Gain 3pounds! Not happy, but I sleep at night now! So at least I look healthy instead of bags under my eyes!

I am down to 75 mg. now from 300 mg. last Dec. Occasionally I will have to take 150 mg. I don't have withdrawal symptoms when I switch back & forth.
I gained 12 lbs. the first 3 months. No matter what, I haven't been able to lose that weight. I haven't gained any additional weight either, but that has required a lot of work.
I take Lyrica because I have severe spinal & back problems, but I only take it at bed time. I can't say that it helps the pain that much and it has caused me many sleepless nights because it gets me so worked up and wide awake.
I could never go back to 300 mg. again-too much memory loss. I still mix up words. I think Lyrica is very bad for my brain.
I've noticed a big change in my communication & memory skills.

I could have written your post!

I look pregnant, constantly get asked if I'm pregnant and have resorted to wearing my maternity jeans because the weight is all on my belly!

I think I am going to try and wean off of it to see if I need 200mg twice daily. Any suggestions on how to do that?

I was put on a it dosage of Lyrica 10 years ago for foot surgery. Don't remember gaining any weight. Went off it few years ago. Was put back on it last August for symptoms I believe due to Syringomyelia. Only 25mg. Dosage went to 75 a few months ago. Started gaining but did connect to Lyrica. Two+ months ago went to 150mg. Gained 7 lbs. I am under 5'3 and have never gained weight except when I nursed my son 35 years ago. I walk, work out & eat very well. Can't wear ANY of my pants. The problem is two fold. It helps my symptoms but I hate the weight gain. I am stuck between a rock and a hard place. Anyone relate??

There seems to be no help ...... The only options ate take it or leave it. What I can tell you is that once you off Lyrics the weight doesn't come off either, as your metabolism is so bad ....... I have been off for 4 years and still carry 35kgs around my midsection I can not loose. If you do find something that Kick starts the metabism after Lyrics again, then please let me know. Much light and Blessings Tammy.

This will be my last post as I am no longer taking Lyrica. After a lot of ups and downs over the past year and half, I made the decision that the side effects were worse than the benefits. I had been on both cymbalta and lyrics and often had to supplement with pain killers. Living with serious chronic pain is so terrible for all of us and such a waste of our talents and energy. I am going to trying the patch and hope that it can give me better quality of life. I wish you all the best.

Lyrica does male me gain weight. I am 5'4 and currently 134 lbs. Prior to Lyrica, I weighed between 110 and 115 all the time. I have been on lyrica for about a year. I take 150 MG a day. It has caused me to fall, be unaware of what is going on around me, I have slurred speech, severe dizziness, and I sleep a lot. I have had type 1 diabetes for almost 23 years and I suffer from neuropathy, fibromyalgia and R.A. Diabetes alone causes me to feel depressed. Lyrica furthers the depression somehow. I went from being a beautiful, fit, positive person to a chubby, out of shape, negative one. I believe Lyrica caused my appetite to become out of control. Even with fighting the urge to eat everything I can get my hands on, my metabolism seems to be at a crawl bc I am still gaining weight. I'm still pretty young, so it's not bc of the aging process that my metabolism has slowed down. I didn't have these problems until lyrica. I love the way lyrica takes the pain away. I just hate that I'm getting heavier and heavier, feeling depressed, not able to drive after I take it, and how the sleepiness and dizziness have reduced my social life to almost nothing. I don't even have time to pig out, because I'm asleeo all the time. The thing is, if you plan to use Lyrica, you need to be prepared to accept the side effects. Lyrica does what it supposed to do. Unfortunately being pain free with Lyrica isn't a win win for me.

I can totally relate. I gained 35 pounds in 10 months... Granted, l have been bedridden for nearly 5 months due to Pudendal Nerve Entrapment. The medication really helps with burning type pain, so I am grateful for that. That said, I grew out of all of my summer clothes that I bought last year (due to 20 pounds of gain from Cymbalta). So its so damn frustrating to deal with, BUT its a tradeoff I must accept. I believe that a lot of this weight gain is due to water retention throughout the body. I notice it in my belly, hands and ankles. I am a 45 year old man and I only eat around 1400 calories a day.... Far below the average caloric intake for a 240 pound (and only 5 ' 8"!!). i guess I need to eat less than 1000 calories per day? Thats very hard to do no matter what size you are.

I too am packing on the lbs. with lyrica! I started taking it 6 months ago for nerve damage in my face from dental work. It is wonderful for the pain but I hate looking in the mirror! I go to the gym 4 times a week do strength and cardio but I am beginning to look pregnant, gained about 8 lbs, ( on diet most of the 6 months).
Tried to go off but the pain returned..... help!

Hi - they were referring yo my metabolism and its ability to function the way it is suppose to. In essence the metabolism HSS been slowed down and damaged by Lyrics, that it is virtually impossible to get it to work or function properly again.

As far as the mind fog and memory loss, I am still battling and haven't recovered fully. I suffered from several mood swings, that I don't even recall. - loss of eye function that I now wear glasses - hallucinations, it looked like the road was wrapping up in front of my car when driving - just to mention a few.

My children where the ones that went with me to the doctor, who had been our family doctor for years and begged him to stop the Lyrica as they didn't know who I was anymore.

I stopped cold turkey and was bedridden for 4 weeks the pain that returned was so BAD - it literally felt like all the pain I hadn't felt when on the Lyrica, came back in one go.

My question is ....... It is very clear that this drug has more cons to pros and adverse effects and damage to 99.9 percent of people that use it. SO WHY IS THE MEDICAL BOARD AND FDA NOT DOING FURTHER INVESTIGATION ON IT AND STOPPING THE USE OF IT TILL IT IS RESEARCHED PROPERLY AND SOMETHING FORMULATED TO FIX THE DAMAGE IT DOES?

I have decreased my Lyrica dosage from. 300 mg. to 150 mg. I actually, unintentionally made a delicious tuna casserole, and forgot the tuna. I didn't recognize my curling iron one morning-same one I'd used forever. It just didn't seem like the one I'd been using,
I have gained 12 lbs. since starting Lyrica in December. The weight does not come off. I take Yoga Thursday nights. I use the treadmill four days a week. I walk my dog around a big complex twice a day and go up and down concrete steps 4 to 5 times a day. I am almost 76.
Since I reduced the Lyrica dosage my memory has come back. I have started taking L Carnitine, also. I hope it helps weight loss. Something has to help kick - start the Lyrica fat out of my body. I know dieting & exercise alone aren't working. Don' let them tell you Lyrica doesn't cause weight gain and it 's because you eat way too much. Most of all don 't give up. Keep trying.

It would be very interesting to know what "was completely turned off"... Does your Doctor or Pharmacist know? I had not heard that before but that is a good description! Let me know if you can get more info. Many thanks

Hi - do you perhaps know what can be taken if you stopped taking it cold turkey after being on it for 6 months and gained 30kg and stopped it over 3 years ago? I have tried everything yet can't loose those 30kgs and it's ruining my self confidence. When I asked the doc and pharmacist they told me that it's hard to kick start something to work again when it was completely stopped??!! If you do know how I can get rid of this weight - please help!!

Wth are people to do ? The MF****** fda passes anything these days due to being thrown into a sea of paperwork and minimal funds. Not to mention drug companies have them in their pockets !! They falsifie their findings .(everyone does it !) So yes... We will use other drugs to curb more pain from weight gain ! Were stuck on their ride while the pharma community sits back and judges us from behind the counter!!
