Vitamin D With 1000 Ius
UpdatedMy mom have a vitamin D deficiency. My auntie just bought a MX Vitamin D that contains 1000 IUs of vitamin D3 cholecalciferol. Is this okay for a particular people who have a vitamin D deficiency? My auntie told that it will replenish my mom's body stores and nourish bones and immune system. Is it okay to take??

My girlfriend was also diagnosed with vitamin D deficiency. In most cases, taking a vitamin D supplement will be beneficial, however 1000 IU is a pretty low dose (odds are that the effects of 1000 IU won't be felt). Depending on how severe the deficiency is, most doctors or nutritionists would recommend around 50,000 IU per week to reverse the deficiency. This can be easily achieved however if you get at least 15-30min of sunshine a day with the addition of the supplement, and/or just upping the dose of the vitamin D3 tab to around 5000 IU per day and trying your best to get some sunlight.
To answer your question tho, yes, vitamin D3 cholecalciferol is good to take; and is a much better option than vitamin D2 (the synthetic version).
