Have you asked your doctor?

This is a high dosage, but how badly are you deficient?

Do you have any idea what's causing the deficiency?

Yes, this is almost certainly appropriate. If your doctor gave you another prescription, it's almost certainly because the first prescription did not raise your levels enough and he is doing 'almost' the right thing giving you another prescription to bring up your levels. Although the 'prescription' form is 'inferior' and you'd be better off getting an 'over the counter' D3 instead of the synthetic D2 that he prescribed.
