Visine Lr Discontinued? (Page 5) (Top voted first)
UpdatedHaving problems finding this product. Has it been discontinued and if so, do you know why?
Has anyone considered seeing if this is something a compounding pharmacy could produce?
I called J&J, and they confirmed that LR has been discontinued, with no plans to bring it back. This happened back in 2010, and they told me that they had issues with getting the main ingredient "oxymetazoline" imported into the States, and Canada. I have been using this product for probably 15 years, and it is the "only" product on the market that works for me.
I have spent hundreds of dollars on buying every other Visine product, and all the other brands as well. This is truly a bummer.
Christina,
Just to clarify, the import issue was the case in 2010. Currently, J&J said they have definitely discontinued LR for good. I have signed the petition, but I only see like 19 other signatures, so we need to get much more attention to the petition.
Dallas- i have tried all the other visine products n about 6 more other products w no luck. I have been using visine lr for more than 15 yrs for my chronic dry eyes. The b&l maximum answered my prayers! Good luck!
Thanks Aga. I appreciate the feedback. That's the kind of answer I was looking for, I have been using LR for the same amount of time, and have not only tried most OTC products, as well as Medical Prescription brands, and nothing else worked. I will definitely go pick up a bottle today. Will let you know my results.
Aga - I want to Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I went, and picked up B&L today. I have been using Systane for the last couple of days trying to keep the little bit of LR I had remaining for work. My eyes were Red, Burning, all the regular symptoms that users of LR have.
I put 2 drops of B&L in, and almost immediately felt comfort. I came back to my computer, and worked for a bit and then, I reluctantly went into the restroom to see if the Red was gone. My eyes are Crystal Clear. Even more so than LR has ever produced.
As we discussed, I have literally spent easily hundreds trying to find a replacement the last time LR went out of stock. I have been to multiple Doctors, bought every thing under the sun OTC, and nothing has ever worked, ever...!
I walked into the restroom almost scared that it wasn't going to work for redness.
OMG, my eyes are Crystal Clear. Never have I seen a product work this good, not even LR. I'm Stock Piling.. :-)
Thank you once again..
HP
For me, the B&L works better than anything I have ever used including LR. As I mentioned, since I have been using LR for about 15 years or more, it might have lost a bit of it's effectiveness. However, it still worked better than anything else I have ever used until now.
I suffer from extreme Red, Burning, Dry eyes. When I wake up in the morning is when it's at it's worst. If I don't apply the LR, my eyes would stay that way all day. Looks like I indulged in a pound of marijuana, and have been out partying on 2 hours sleep.. :-) LOL, and I don't smoke at all.
But this stuff (B&L) is the real deal for me. I was almost about to do what you did, and bite the bullet on Ebay / Amazon.
Thanks again to Aga for the find..!
I much prefer the "VISINE WORKPLACE" eye drops that were available in Canada as opposed to the "VISINE LR Longlasting" eye drops that were available in the USA.
I can't even find "Visine Workplace" on ebay.
Perhaps they have different non-active ingredients for their delivery system.
In any event, my eye doctor has been writing me a prescription for "Prednisolone 1% Acetate Ophthalmic Suspension USP" eye drops in the 10ml bottle for about 6 years now. It use to cost around $5 per bottle but now it's $80.
It's manufactured by ALCON Laboratories for Sandoz, INC. They cost me $80 per bottle at COSTCO, and anyone is allowed to use the COSTCO pharmacy, even if you're not a member.
The PREDNISOLONE 1% drops have been the best eye drops for me before finding the cheaper alternative of VISINE WORKPLACE. I highly recommend asking your doctor for a prescription to try it out. They even have a 5ml bottle for $40 at COSTCO.
My regular doctor (internist) now writes me the script, so I don't even have to see the eye doctor.
Anyways, they also have plenty of Bausch + Lomb Advanced Eye Relief at WALMART and their website; however, it only has 3 reviews with 3 or 4 stars.
I will pick up a bottle and test it for a week. I takes me a couple weeks to know for sure if I like an eye drop.
Hello Aga,
Just like HB I cannot find the exact match on the Bausch + Lomb website. I see one called "Advanced Eye Relief Redness Maximum Relief", is this what you are referring to? Thank you for sharing your experience =)
I tried the bausch and lomb eye drops and they work better then visine lr. My eyes are whiter then they have ever been. I never thought id find another eye drop that would work this well.
Thanks GregMech for reply. I went to doctor and he said I was addicted to the Visine LR and told me to go without anything for a month to see if my condition improves. I asked for Predisolone and he refused stating it will cause cataracts.Whatever, so I'm now using B&L Max Red two drops in morning to get relief for chronic eye redness which is best drop OTC drop I've found. I'm going to see an Optomologist for further evaluation next month.
I've been told that I was addicted to Visine also. That's a bunch of bull, I've had red eyes since I was young before I even started taking eye drops. Visine LR worked the best and all other eye drops work okay to lousy. I'm guessing that's the case for most of us.
I just did, thank you for posting, but yeah only like 23 people!? Come on people quit complaining and sign the petition to keep Visine LR, they only need like 78 signatures, and there's a lot more people here complaining than that, I don't get it?
I signed the petition hopefully who ever is in charge of it will let us know what they hear
Hello everyone! I'm actually in another thread here at med chats, and I was just given a heads up by David that you are all looking for Visine LR alternative. Well here is what I posted in my other thread : I used Visine LR for over 20 years. Since its discontinuation, I've researched many eye drops and their ingredients. The only one that works amazingly, is Opcon-A! The oxymetazoline is absent but nephazoline is just as effective. My eyes are not red and lasts long periods. Thank goodness because I thought I would never find an alternative. It works! I totally recommend it
Rhonda,
Hear anything back from Walmart?
Who are you contacting? Maybe I can also try.
Thank you,
Christina
I've tried both of those they leave a film on my eyes and don't provide the same relief
Yes Christina, I get the feeling Johnson & Johnson is done with us too. I'm mostly going to concentrate on other companies. The same way J&J created Visine LR to grab the consumers of OcuClear is the same way another company can now develop something similar to Visine LR.
I hope.
It's just a shame that manufacturers cause so many people to waste their hard-earned money. Why fill all those shelves with differently packaged and labeled eye drops that don't work?
A lot of consumers just didn't know that there was at least one eye drop (Visine LR) they could count on to do its job. And it never made your eyes sting.
South Africa makes the eye drops but so far I have not been able to get anyone to ship to the US. I have been using Visine LR for many years and Occu-clear before it was discontinued. It is the only thing that works for me. I have reached out to a supplier in South Africa (M-KEM Medicine City) but haven't heard back yet. I told them there is large market for this product in the US. I'm not sure how US trade works with SA but it's worth the effort to try to purchase from a company that we at least know makes it. I'll post any new updates.
wow! didn't know there were so many people with the same chronic dry eye problem and who also used Ocuclear and now Visine LR. I know I'm probably addicted to Visine LR but like the rest of you, it is the only thing that works for the redness. (used for 15 yrs!) I just tried the B & L maximum redness and it's working well but i'm afraid of the overuse warning making the redness worse. Anyone experience this?
